We went there for my brother-in-law's birthday and the atmosphere was very calm and pleasant. The beach or sea theme that they have matches wonderfully with their exquisite seafood. They also have some other choices for people how cannot eat seafood, which was honestly quite nice for my father who is allergic to seafood.

The staff are friendly and welcoming. Traditional Afrikaans South African culture experience. The restaurant is family friendly with a play area for older kids and the beach sand entertains smaller toddlers. The restaurant offers a dinning experience of several courses served over a few hours. The food is delicious mainly seafood with a beef and chicken course in between. There is a beach bar to order drinks but they welcome BYOB as well, which is great. The live music adds to the great atmosphere and brings to life the Afrikaans culture. Overall this is a phenomenal authentic South African experience with amazing food.

We visited De Vette Mossel on 5th January! What a experience with excellent Hosts and other guests create a great vibe. The food was perfect and one can easily fall into the trap to eat to much too early and then not get thru all the dishes. I will definitely put this venue on my regular list to visit. It feels like you are at the coast.

Sunday 7 November 2021. Previously visited the venue with amazing food and good vibes. Today we visited with out of town family.. The Vette Mossel should remove "Eat as nuch as you can" The mussels ran out shorthly after the lunch started. The snoek portions were very small and not enough. People had to wait 30+ minutes for more snoek and then not all people could get snoek. The seafood stew also was not enough and then again people had to wait over an hour for more. It was tasteless with a "pink" sauce. The chicken potjie was absolutely tasteless and ended in the bin. For a "seafiod feast " the beef potjie was edible with some taste. MONEY and effort wasted for R260 per head. First time of all our visits that patrons started leaving within 1 hour after lunch started.
My advise for people wanting to visit. Paying this money for this quality and quantity Stay Away.

Dear Mr Bothe,
We find it sad that you did not once mention any of your grievances to us on the day of your visit. Perhaps you did not hear some of our announcements or misunderstood what was happening on the day.
Running a all you can eat restaurant with quality seafood, where everything is prepared outdoors and on a open fire is no small task.
We use a formula developed over the years of how much of each dish to prepare per head on any given day. This being said it can happen that on a specific day guests dish bigger than normal portions and that we need to make more. We do clearly state in our introductory speach that "ons seekos is nooit op nie, dalk net oppad"!
Our mussels did not run out and guests where invited to fetch more from the fire as desired. Leftover mussels get put into our 3rd course, seafood pot, just before it is served. Did you perhaps go ask the chef about this?
With our Snoek we did run short and had to prepare more. Everyone got Snoek and many came up for 2nd and 3rd helpings, saying that it was the best Snoek they had ever had!
It is important to be factually correct when posting reviews like this on social media! If you are not happy about something it is always best to speak to management first. Especially for small family businesses like ourselves who have had to fight to stay afloat the last 2 years.

A rustic and super laid back environment, comfortable for a party of 30+ people. Celebrating a few birthdays there was more than enough food to accommodate tastes young and old. Kids can happily keep themselves entertained in the outdoor pen. If wanting prawns order early as there was a cut off time for the Sunday lunch sitting. Watch eating to much of the most delicious bread to allow room for the varied courses.

Fantastic casual dining experience with really great food, you certainly won't go hungry, and the food is really delicious. You can take your own drinks, but the bar prices were very reasonable. Definitely recommend.

The food was great but unfortunately we were let down by the service of the manager. She was rude and unaccommodating. There were also no covid-19 measures in place. No one was screened at the entrance and the tables were all full and there was not enough space given between tables. No one were asked to put their masks on while walking around on the premises. Compared to the De Vette Mossel in Parys, this experience was a complete let down.

Hi MiaSey, thank you for your feedback. Not sure what the situation in question was that lead to your experience with one of our managers being so negative. You are welcome to contact us directly with more details on your complaint, dvmhptyltd@gmail.com. In general I can only give feedback on the rest of your review. At our restaurant we pride ourselves in being environmentally friendly so we have a electronic booking system, which in these times double up as our attendance and contact-trace register. We also went to great trouble to move our tables (planted in the sand) further apart and accommodate 100 less guest than pre-covid, even thou we are a open air restaurant. Social distancing markers in the form of painted white bricks are at all of our queuing stations. We also ask guests to wear masks and sanitise on entry and have the proper signage up to promote this and all of our staff wear masks. As individuals it is each of our responsibility to protect ourselves by keeping our distance, wearing our masks and sanitising our hands regularly - at our restaurant we have provided all the tools needed to do so but still rely on each guest to do their part.

Quaint seaside setting in Harties. Layer back and chilled. You can take your own wine, and a bar is also available. Lots of food and 7 courses, however prawns and grilled fish an additional charge. Food is average

Went there today with no booking and we were welcomed as if we were family. Neels, Anette and the rest of the team are great. They have a brilliant idea and setting. Great traditional South African food and the vibe speaks to us completely. We truly felt we could easily be at the west coast or even Costa Rica!
Overall experience was great, bathrooms felt as if you were in a tree house... all is very cool and will be back. Don’t miss this place, it’s a must experience. Thank you!

We visited de vette mossel on 4th January! Well done! From the booking right to us leaving was just exellent. Food is brilliant. Way to much for one person. The staff is friendly and helpfull. That said its sad to read the comment of the man from Ireland. My experience is far from what he alleges. I also note that the booking allegedly fell through for December yet he comments on peak season state of the kitchen etc. It does create impression this comment is malicious. Really unnecessary Sir.

From the get go we could see that the afternoon was going to be packed with awsome seefood and chilled vibes. We ate from all the dishes and it was just as expected. Made us feel that we were some where close to the coast on holiday for that couple of hours we were there. A must go from us.

We try to visit this amazing restaurant at least once a year. As always on our visit yesterday we were once more not disappointed. A wonderful and relaxing experience as always. The food and the hosts are excellent. The atmosphere and other guests ....... what can I say...... just SUPERB. First to arrive and the last to leave.
