Hard to get there, but worth every mile

This is how the dining experience in Crete should look like. Very nice host with friendly staff will make you feel like being a regular guest or even part of the family tavern. The view is spectacular, but the food is just outstanding. We followed some of the recommendations and just had a few appetizers. Garlic bread (sooo yummy), the mushrooms filled with spinach and feta (OMG), but the Zucchini chips were the best of all.

Some of the best food in Crete

What a pity we discovered this restaurant on the last day of our week stay at Rodakino. This is simply some of the best food I have had in Crete after a week of sensational food. It's clear you need a car to get here as it's up in the hills but my oh my is it worth it. The views are stunning and the food is unreal - we had Cretian pies, garlic cheesy bread, zucchini chips, a great Greek salad and some grilled chicken. Even our kids said it might have been their favorite of the week. Unfortunately this was a light lunch and we didn't get to have dinner here as I think that this would also be sensational. The price is so good as well - 50€ for 5 people with enough food and drink. Compliments as well to the staff who are excellent - super friendly and patient even during a brutal Greek heatwave! Next time we are in Crete we are coming for dinner!

This topical taverna is very well located, having a great view. The owner and the boys in service, were very friendly and polite. Each plate/dishes that we ordered was delicious! The vegetables were fresh and the traditional dishes were delicious! I strongly recommend that place! Sotiria

Dinners with an excellent view

We have been eating at Merastri for the last 5 years that we have been vacationing in the area! Excellent food with an amazing view of the bay of Plakia! It's just that the place is not very big and it's not easy to find a table during certain hours and days... What we disliked this year, however, is that a portion of goat with boiled spaghetti was charged €16... George is excellent in service 👌

Small portions, hastily cooked, meat was hard, nothing special in anything. We have definitely eaten much better food in other restaurants /taverns in the area. No value for money, either, given the prices and respective portions served.

What a GEM of a place. Love it. Great location. Amazing views. Fantastic food and GREAT customer service!!! Make reservations. Especially on a Sunday. The place gets booked. The views are stunning. The food is creative. The staff is fun. It has a homely feeling. We loved all the dishes; pork with honey, pork with okra, aubergines, Greek salad, lamb. You want it, They got it or will make it. They did an amazing bday celebration for me. I was serenaded “happy birthday” in various languages ... so much fun. Oh, please try chocolate cake (best we have ever had). And ask for baklava! Thank you for all the dinners. 🙏

Best resto in Plakias area serving local food

For us the best restaurant in Plakias area. Local food with a personal touch + use of very fresh products ( mostly form their own farm ) = top cuisine. The service is also outstanding. Nice view from the terrase

Cosy quiet tavern with great food

Beautiful cozy tavern with wide selection of food. We felt super comfortable, food was great and at a reasonable price. What we especially liked here compared to the taverns in Mirthios: There is a relaxed, quiet atmosphere and you can chat completely relaxed without a canteen-like soundscape. One of our new favorite taverns!

Gorgeous view, great food and service

Be sure to make a reservation or go very early to get tables with the best view -or a seat at all as this is a very popular place. The view is stunning, overlooking the bay. This is a family restaurant with a lot of selection. Everything we had here was very good - they were out of a few things but so it goes, we did not regret our choice of restaurant! Parking is limited (on street)

Stunning food and view

Amazing authentic Cretian cuisine and a stunning view. Utterly delicious. We came here 3 years ago and were blown away and we came back this year and were equally impressed. Snails, courgette flowers, anchovies all fantastic. All the usual things also available- just better quality and more refined. Awesome.

Nice restaurant with a fantastic view. Good starter and main course. Unfortunately had to wait over an hour for the main course, while other guests were obviously given priority. Hence points deducted...prices reasonable.

First time here, recommended by a friend of ours. We really enjoyed this traditional Taverna. We ordered a few starters and main courses and everything was above expectations. Cretan cuisine is really amazing. We’ll be back! Thanks for the excellent dishes.

What a great place. Love love love Merastri. Service, people, and especially food. Always make reservations - this place gets busy. Closed on Tuesday. Never ever been disappointed. Views are spectacular. They will take good care of everyone. Great atmosphere.
