What a gastronomic experience with true Karoo hospitality while enjoying the traditional South African food. The best sheep tripe, waterblommetjiebredie, tamatiebredie, bobotie, etc. Worth the effort to enjoy a meal here.

Had lunch at the Old Village Restuarant not realising that Citrusdal is a small town with all of the restuarants outside of town (mistake number one). Decided to stop at the Old Village as the building looked nice and the views impressive. When we were...greeted by a surly member of staff we maybe should have heeded the warning signs (mistake number 2). She didn't seem that bothered about our presence and it felt like we were an inconvenience. We took a table outside as it was pleasant out and we could appreciate the views over the town and surrounding vally, plus the inside had zero atmosphere. Food was ordered (deep fried pork chop and lamb chops) and it came quickly. My husband's lamb chops he said were tasty; the chips/wedges were really good but I wasn't all that impressed by the fried pork chop and didn't eat it all. It was breaded and here was a pool of oil in the middle. It just didn't seemed cooked properly (mistake number 3). Needless to say, a few hours later I was very sick and regreted by food choice. Not recommended.More

We enjoyed drinks on the wide veranda while waiting for our meal. We moved inside to the dining room where the tales were set with fabric serviettes and clean linens. The Pork Steak was superb. The steamed mixed veg my husband had with his was...rather boring. It was just that - steamed - and had no flavour. The Waitress was attentive and pleasant. Overall we had a very enjoyable time.More

A spread of the most delicious true South African meals. A feast of lamb curry, waterblommetjie lamb stew, offal, chicken pie, pork roast, sweet potato, pumpkins and a rich gravy with rice - topped off with a glass of delectable red wine from the Cape...area. Warm, cosy with loads of character in the Old Village circa 1725 CitrusdalMore

If you want a true South African food experience, try The Old Village Restaurant in Citrusdal. Their Sunday buffet included things like traditional lamb curry, waterblommetjie lamb stew, chicken pie, offal stew, delicious rich gravy with rice and and roast potatoes, sweet potato and ending...it all off with a delectable malva pudding and custard. You can choose from a selection of cape wines, buy the bottle and take the rest with you. It was a taste sensation.More

This place was recommended to us for the nice location and the ancient buildings, however the current owner does not make a full benefit of the great potential this place has. The food was of medium quality and not something you would recommend, the service...was without a smile. Maybe that was the reason we were the only guests.More

What a gem. We read the history of the farm while sitting, enjoying the view and sipping an ice cold beer. The best pizzas in town!!

This is one of the nicest restaurants in the Western Cape for a Sunday lunch. We have done the journey from Cape Town to Citrusdal several times for the Sunday buffet lunch and our last vist was the best. It is very reasonably priced and...the food is to die for... The main course comprises typical South African food such as oxtail, curry, lamb (actually sheep which is slightly tougher..) and chicken pie, with delicious vegetables such as sweet potato, sweet carrots, green beans and bacon, etc. And to cap it off, some melt-in-the-mouth Malva pudding... Definitely worth the trip!More

My husband and I lived next door at Elephant Leisure for 3 nights. Ended up here for a restaurant dinner. I liked the cozy old school atmosphere, log fire burning, great friendly cat. We had to put on the music ourself. Food was good. I...had calamari steak, not the softest, my husband had the carpet burger steak, also just ok. But really there is not one single restaurnatvin town, so choice is limited and the atmosphere, service and history made it a pleasant evening for us. We can recommend. Also great bar for a drink or to watch sport.More

Having this lovely restaurant close to town is always a pleasure. Sonia and her team always go the extra mile to make your experience a good one. The food is great, from Ribs, Steaks, Schnitzels, Pizzas, Bacon Bombs and Onion Rings (which are huge) had...me wanting and returning for more every time..!! Will highly recommend anyone who is in Citrusdal to drop in and have a bite or something to drink. Don't forget this is a pet friendly restaurant, the local cat Frodo will drop in every now and then for a bite. On Sundays there is a buffet which is guaranteed to make you leave with a full belly and tasting great every time.More

We have been to Citrusdal on our family holiday for a fourth time this year and John always tells about the Old Village and we decided to take the little ones for a treat. And what a treat it was. It was extremely hot on...our way there but the staff were super helpful and friendly. We sat outside soaking up the light wind. The food too was great, fresh - definitely service with a smile. We can't wait to visit again when we are back in Citrusdal. Thanks for the amazing experience and really the history was awesom!!More

We had the full breakfast, butternut soup and chicken livers. We can recommend all of them and nice coffee too. We sat outside looking out onto the garden, our waitress gave us a pamflet and info on the history which brought the place alive ,...for us. Loved the deco in the toilet (use to be the old prison )More
