A highly anticipated night out on our visit from Toronto, after securing a reservation through their complex online system 2 months earlier. Convenient on-site parking at the Old Biscuit Mill made for easy transport. We were not disappointed - this innovative tasting menu stands up against the best in North America or Europe. We began with seven small snacks/dishes and... More

An extraordinary experience, even for unrepentant foodies. The experience had many components: surprise being the predominant one. The support staff are awesomely insouciant--describing courses beyond your imagination with matter of fact confidence. The performance starts with an hour or so in "the dark room", before you are directed to a portal and a doorman lets you into "the light room",... More

WARNING - it ain't cheap and it is a set menu. This is truly one of the best food experiences we have ever had, from entering to leaving. You start off in a dark room being served with a couple of cocktails and served The Test Kitchens "Bar" food. What a kick-off, the cocktails (or the great G&T if you... More

Wow - what an experience the Test Kitchen is. If you can get a reservation - DO IT! From the welcome drinks, to the appetizers, to the amazing 9 course dinner - there isn't anything I would change about this experience (except maybe wear some loose fitting clothes so you can enjoy it all!) My family and I went here... More

Take time to experience every course. It is a real taste explosion. Book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Test Kitchen has been one of our favourite restaurants for our trips to Cape Town and this was our fifth visit there. It has always been excellent quality and for a European was good value for money and worth the difficulty of getting a reservation. For this visit the reservation system had changed and we struggled a bit with... More

The Test offers a set 'tasting' menu similar to other high end restaurants with no a la carte or other options. There are two wine pairing options as well as a tea pairing list. You start off in the 'Dark Room' where the starter menu is delivered in a series of nine very imaginative and delicious dishes accompanied by a... More

In short: for us the visit to The Test Kitchen was our best dining experience ever. Even more impressive than Gaggan (Bangkok), Kiin Kiin (Copenhagen) and Tim Raue (Berlin). At this level it is no longer about the taste of food, but about overall culinary dining experience. Which is memorable... The evening began in the dimly lit Dark Room. We... More

... we had a great evening with more than delicious food- the service was great and the 16 courses all special. We didn't like the pork though. The "but" is around the costs - we had the wine accompanied menu - and it was a total around 2200 ZAR which is quite expensive for South Africa- I am happy being... More

As a food lover, eater, traveller and diner, I have come to absolutely hate tasting menus. I am tired of Chefs trying to tell me how well they can cook. Just get on with it and make some great dishes, but stop giving me a taste and then never offering me a full dish! I vowed that I would never... More
