Every couple of years you bite the bullet, extend your mortgage, and shuffle over to The Test Kitchen (TTK) to see how the other half live it up.
Eating at TTK is like going to the opera. As Richard Gere once told a pretty woman,...More
Probably the most amazing experience you can have with food.
Have now taking it to another level.
We ate here 4 Years ago on our last visit to S A and the memory still lingers
But now with the re-vamped restaurant it's moved on to...More
The Test Kitchen
This is a remarkable treat and experience. Ranked as the best restaurant in Africa and with an exceptional international ranking this is no small feat and is a result of the culmination of chef and owner Luke Dale Roberts lifetime of a...More
One of the more unique dining experiences in this foodie’s life. The combination of textures, tastes and array of foods is amazing. The experience begins with an array of unique spiced cocktails and nine courses plus an amuse bouche in the dark room and proceeds...More
One of the best meal experiences of a lifetime. A tough restaurant to get a reservation, but we’ll worth the effort. Superb service, looks expensive, but for the effort they put into every dish, just incredible. The wine flights are amazing choices, and terrific value,...More
We were lucky to get a table for 3 during our stay in Capetown. What can I say guys? It was the perfect experience. I am so glad and thankful I had the chance to go there. The service was outstanding. Every meal and plate...More
People here are complaining that it's expensive, but this was actually a reasonably priced tasting menu compared to the city that I reside in, so it's all relative! They were so sweet to seat us down at this outdoor table because we got there like...More
Well and truly the best food i have ever had an explosion of taste and unique experience all round!!
The dark room creates a bit of underground ambiance of the 1920s while you wait for the light room to blow you away.
Worth every penny!
The evening with friends and family turned out to be a once in a lifetime experience. Pricey by South African standards, the incredible number of greetings from the kitchen in the dark room coupled with lekker cocktails, followed by a virtually endless, delicious sequence of...More

Yes, this is the frustrating part! When we last visited Cape Town in 2014, we were unable to get a reservation. So when we planned another trip in 2017, my husband made sure he knew exactly when the reservation period would open. We live in Vancouver, Canada, so my hubby took into consideration the time difference and then set his alarm clock to ensure he got on the website just as the time period opened up. Even with all this effort, we didn’t get the exact day and time we wanted, but we did get our reservation. If you can’t get in for dinner, then I think they have an option for lunch (maybe at their sister restaurant?).
Hope this helps. Good luck! Still lots of great dining options in Cape Town if you miss the Test Kitchen.

Well, if the 10-12 year olds can appreciate unusual food with novel ingredients, I am sure they would be welcome. The atmosphere in the restaurant is not at all stuffy, but I can't recall seeing that particular age group there. I would suggest that you ring the restaurant and ask. You might also try to find the menu on line and ask the young people themselves if they might enjoy that sort of food. Finally, the whole question may be moot since you will probably find it very difficult to get reservations.
