we were looking to gouge on ribs and Mash Tun promised a delectable ribs special. Unfortunately when the ribs came it was very clear they were a fraction of the size we were told. We had to escalate to the manager and while she didn't...admit that the ribs were obviously not the advertised gram, she gave us a discount. We unfortunately headed to another place afterwards for a meal. Would return only for a drinks.More

It's a waste of good space. We went to celebrate a colleague's farewell and left without eating our food after being there for nearly 2hrs. 1. Orders were turned back a couple of times. My colleague is hindu, she ordered chicken and was given beef....She returned it and was given a burger with chicken strips? After questioning the strips, the plate was taken to the kitchen again and it came back back with an underwhelming crumbed chicken patty. For a restaurant of that standard you'd expect a fillet and not some processed previously frozen patties. 2. Two of us ordered tacos. Wow, the tortilla was a joke. The edges were crunchy, it tasted like microwaved leftover roti. We notified our waiter, the assistant manager came and took it back to the kitchen. After about 15 minutes we were advised there's an issue with the tortillas the chef can't seem to get them right. 3. Another colleague ordered chicken salad. Underwhelming, the presentation was horrendous and you could see there was very little effort. I mean for a 90 bucks salad one expects more than just lettuce, tomato and cucumber?? 4. Who messes up a piece of steak? The mash tun. So so dissapointing. I really hope they improve as the location has so much potential. Sadly I'd never ever consider wasting my money there, its really not worth it. Food is MEDIOCRE.More

Made bookings on 6 Feb for 14 Feb 2019 by email even forwarded the voucher as they have requested. On 12 Feb I noticed that my voucher had been reedeemed then I phoned The mash tun whom confirmed I shouldn’t worry as they’ve got my...name on the list for the 14th. Got to the restaurant at 19h00 and was told that my name not on the list and the restaurant fully booked. Asked why my voucher has been redeemed . Asked to speak to the manager and the lady who was addressing us confirmed she was the manager. We asked to speak to her superior and she came back saying her superior is busy and can’t attend to us. Really ???? The lady’s attitude was really unpleasant I absolutely doubt she had called her superior. After a while she asked us to wait at the area close to the kitchen and later offered us seats when she realised that four important customers didn’t show up, later she offered free drinks to make up which really doesn’t work for me. For the embarrassment we went through I wouldn’t go back even though it’s a lovely place.More

Cool place with really good food which is very well priced with generous portions. Jason's service was excellent and my wife and I loved that we could get a free drink with the Clink app.

Interestingly my first visit was so good i went back. However the second visit left me wanting; wanting better drinks, better comediens and definately better service. Pity as i really enjoyed my first visit and told many people about it. Sad face...

Don't be put off by location or outside appearance. The pizzas and service were great and value for money. Mash tun has a rustic interior and there is also a small outside, under cover area for smokers. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a large group, however they were expecting us. Still did not have enough tables ready and not enough room, so some of our group were on the patio. Took our order, drinks were fine- food was not good. I had the flat bread,...it was cold and the sauce they use was BBQ sauce. The calimari was fried to almost black in color, several people ordered it and it all came out looking the same way- could not even get it down. Also, some people in our party didnt even get their food after an hour. Cool place, but it needs a stronger staff to run this business. Also, when we were waiting on our food, the place filled up with smoke due to something burning in the kitchen....seriously unprofessional.More

Nestled in a side street in Woodstock, this is a rare gem. As a first time visitor I felt right at home as the coziness and warmth of the place was really inviting. My friend and I were also impressed by the service of a...young man with Aspergers syndrome who was meticulous with attention to detail as well as very knowledgeable about the menu. The manager of the establishment was also very welcoming and actually sat down at our table to give info on the establishment. I would really urge anyone foreigners visiting Cape Town to pop in and experience for yourself. Locals will also be amazed that this pub actually exists. Sometimes it pays to do a little snooping and try out new places from time to time.More

The Mash Tun is new and vibrant restaurant in the industrial area of Woodstock. The interior is funky and rustic. The service is absolutely shocking, waited over 2 hours for food, once all my friends had eaten, my food still had not come out (please...note that the food that did come out, went straight back for corrections) When my flat bread came out, I could see it was thrown together, wasn't cooked through. I had 3 pieces and left the rest. The prices for drinks are outrageous, they pick the most expensive brand without telling you of course. R90 for a double brandy and coke. The atmosphere is great, they had a great DJ the night we went. But would not recommend this place for food, pop in for a drink.More

...Snazzii venue hidden away in a a enclosed business complex! They occupy a ground floor premises right in the back corner where you have to negotiate and navigate your way through a narrow alley way and once you arrive it's Wow! This venue is so...snazzii and rustic with a decor of it's own where the tables are made up of plain pine pallets stacked upon each other to make up snazzii furniture! Even some walls and the bar counter is also made up of plain-pine wood paneling! Awesome and cool to just sit around in this big place where they have a full music desk with equipment to supply the music if and when needed! The host was very friendly and welcomed us heartilii and made us feel very at home here for the first time ever in fact all the staff on duty was friendlii and pleasant! This place exceeded on expectations by far! We will give them a 10 out of 10!! We only happened to be here because we had a gift meal voucher which entitled us to a Starter plate of ribs & chicken wings for two people to share which was insidious-lii delicious, the ribs flavouring was dark & savourii which tingled your taste-buds and the chicken-wings was pungent in a nice enjoyable way! Our main meals were a 200g sirloin or rump served with a sauce, big chips, onion rings and a salad! The steaks were of excellent standard, tender, succulent and prepared just as we ordered it to be! This was a very enjoyable earl ii dinner experience we had here and we will definitely be back here again to explore and indulge some more in the future! We were informed that the have comedy nights on Wednesdays nights and on Thursday nights they have #OTT ( Open Tap Thursdays) for R60.00 you get a glass and you can drink as much beer as you can from 6 pm to 8 pm or for R150.00 you can eat as much pizza as you can (Not sure if it pizza & beer-please make sure when you get there)!!!!!!!.....They also have a few tables outside where you have a love-lii view of Devil's Peak! So awesome!!!............More

When I first walked into The Mash Tun I was delighted by the look and feel of the place. I love the whole converted warehouse vibe and the pallet furniture is super cute! The experience was however spoiled by terrible service. There were not many...people in the restaurant but it took ages to get the waiters attention when we wanted drinks. We got there at 18:40 and probably ordered around 19:30. The food arrived around 21:00 which would have been fine if we had received good service while waiting but like I said, it took forever to get any of the waiters attention. When the food came they had gotten almost everyone's orders wrong and half my friends had to wait another 40 min for their food. They also didn't want to accept the Entertainer app at first until I insisted that I was told over the phone that it would be accepted. If it wasn't for the lack of service I would have loved to go back...More

We went on 17 April to The Mash Tun for a birthday. It was fairly quiet so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves which was great. Our waiter was very friendly and the service he provided was good. I was extremely...disappointed with the food. We were a table of 10 and some people got their meal within the standard service time but the rest of the table only received their food an hour later and someone got their food an hour and a half after that. One of our friends ordered ribs and it was ice cold. This is unacceptable for a kitchen/restaurant to send out food if the whole table's food is not ready.More
