Had a confirmed reservation for 8 people. When we arrived the table was not ready but they told us they would make a table for us in the corner. But then suddenly they did not have a table for us and we had to leave!...Bad experience!More

The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the view. Plenty of other restaurants with a view in the area. The place is in complete chaos. The service was absolutely awful. I have been traveling and eating in Italy for 20 plus years...and have never experienced anything quite so bad. This is not just about slow service that many foreign travelers are not use to in Italy. Firstly, the service was terrible. Once we were able to order the courses came out with a 20 minute delay per person. We waited 30 minutes in total before everyone at the table had food. Waiters running around delivering food to the wrong tables was typical all over the restaurant. It looked like we were watching some kitchen nightmare show on TV with Gordon Ramsey…live. Secondly the wine list is a complete joke. Huge wine list with 80% of the bottles crossed out. When I finally found something that I liked that wasn’t crossed out they didn’t have it. Don’t go here for the wine!! Thirdly the food was abysmal. My Scottona (filet) was completely overcooked, Not one once of pink to be found, The rest of the dishes were so hastily prepared that they made me cringe. Please save your money and time. This is not about being understaffed or someone calling in sick for the shift. This is just a bad restaurant that has a captive audience because of the hotel and doesn’t take any pride in food or service. In the end they didn’t charge me for my steak once the manager saw just how overcooked it was. We only went here because of the Michelin guide rating. I guess after careful research and reading the other reviews, the Chef left 5 years ago and the rating is very old. I am also writing to Michelin.More

My friends and I decided to give La Bastiglia a try despite the seemingly limited menu and the fact that we had vegetarian and gluten free restrictions in our group of three. While not many options fit our needs, the ones that did were delicious...(the gnocco and the pork), and a vegetable contorno is included in secondi piatti, not that common in Spello restaurants. We went light on dinner so we could try the desserts. All were delicious. Both the main dishes and desserts were very artfully presented. Service was prompt and attentive. The patio view over the valley is amazing. Definitely eat here! 20% discount when booked through The Fork is nice, too.More

Just returned from a disappointing dinner at La Bastiglia. The view is awesome but the menu was less than awesome. Very limited and with no salads. The service was a bit slow and the staff seemed like they just didn’t want to be there. I...ordered the pasta with pepper and artichokes because it seemed to be the least undesirable menu item. It was indercooked - not just al dente but not cooked. Very disappointing to be in Italy and not have the pasta done right. Never again.More

Four of us were delighted to find this restaurant open (with a fire burning) on a cold day. Rumour had it that it had closed. Although it no longer has a Michelin star, I believe it worthy of one because the food was superb. I...chose eggplant polpette to start and followed with truffle pasta, both excellent. The rabbit main course was reportedly delicious as was the beef cheek. There were no dairy free deserts. Service was discreet and friendly, Sangiovese wine pleasant.More

La bastiglia is at the very top of Spello. Good parking was available on the street as well as on the property. Service didn’t begin until 8:30 but we were invited to have a drink in front of a beautiful stone fireplace. Four of us...chose different specialities to share and we’re pleased with all. The steak was cooked medium rare, pork and lamb dishes were cooked Umbrian style. Pastas handmade. The wine steward recommended several local wines that were delicious and surprisingly inexpensive. It was too cool to sit outside, but they have a lovely and very inviting terrace. I could imagine it on a summer night,More

Fantastic setting overlooking the plains for a delicious meal and great wine choice. Variety of choice with probably less fish optiond but everything we had tasted great. Service friendly and helpful and wine recommendations good and not expensive !
