We popped in for lunch today.
Twelve thirty could be a little early so we relaxed about being the only table in the entire establishment. I remember this place from years back and thought what the hell, let’s give it a whirl.
We chose three starters to share and ordered rock shandies.
The service was prompt and pleasant and the food arrived in about fifteen minutes
Fish cakes, grilled calamari and peri peri chicken livers
The livers were some of the best I have tasted, the fish cakes whilst super hot were mushy and bland and the calamari was cold and rather tasteless. The total meal would get a 6/10.
What bugged me were the flies. We had more than one constantly landing on our plates and management need to purchase one of those fly trap/killers and deal with this issue.
Price was reasonable.

While on holiday on the south coast this past week we visited a couple of establishments and were hoping for nice sized decently prepared and tasty prawns.
First up was Hibiscus beach cafe at the Ramsgate skiboat club. Second the lobster pot then Shelley beach newly opened ski boat club restaurant. Lastly was the crayfish inn.
I will review the other restaurants seperately.
Although not the best setting as it didnt have a sea view, this restaurant hit the mark for the tastiest and best priced prawns ( on special while we were there at R 120 for 12 prawns with chips or rice).
In fact we enjoyed then so much that we returned for more of the same on our last night.
One of our party had the seafood pasta and i must say that too was very very flavorsome.
We look forward to returning for more of the same and will also try their other dishes on our next visit to our new holiday home in this town shortly.
Well done to you guys at the Crayfish inn and please do Keep it coming.

Food was good but that's not enough.
The overall experience left a lot to be desired. It was a late lunch on Easter Monday. The staff seemed disinterested as we were the only diners and they probably wanted to go home. They presented our bill as we finished eating. We weren't even offered the opportunity to order desserts or coffee.
Decor is tired and the place needs to be spruced up.
There was no management present so no-one to complain to.

Was very surprised how good the food was. On entering area to the right is very nice with live foliage and lights. Staff very attentive. Great service. If you like mussels you have to order the mussels starter. It is amazing. Perfectly cooked mussels in a cheese white wine sauce. Prawn Thai curry sauce a little rich for my taste. Nicely flavored. Dorado fish- large portion nicely prepared. Great that there is an option of chips, baked potato, salad or veg.
Will definitely be back. I notice the good reviews are newer. Crayfish inn has been there forever and must have changed hands.

If seafood is your craving, then this is the place to be. Cooked to perfection, nothing is over done in any way. We enjoyed the prawn platter that had loads of prawns, calamari and hake.
And the Shrimp Cocktail was absolutely heavenly.
One in our group had the Crayfish Thermidor. He said it was superb.
We ate so well we had no place for desserts.

We went for a late lunch. No bottel wine, only boxed wine available. Should have left after that announcement. There were still dirty tables standing around. We were the only people in the restaurant for 2.5 hours. Service was so bad. The worst prawns, soggy, chips soggy, hake looked like it was in a fight before it landed on the plate. The smallest Greek salad in history for R 70.00. Will not go back. It started to rain and my daughter had to move to a different seat as the “tented” outside area was getting soaked with all the holes in the roof. Do not go to this restaurant, think it needs a health inspector.

What a sh.... Place to eat food is not fresh at ALL food not same as on photos snails is off and gets a sheet of cheese on it, cheese was burned and straws get re-used as they rinsed our straws. Dining tables not cleaned also. While we were there trying to enjoy our last day before returning we need to listen to them screaming and swearing in the kitchen as my daughter hears everything and she is only 8 and felt very uncomfortable. The only good thing in the place is the waiter is very helpful.

Noone at front of house, no hospitality, only one waitresses that started 3 days b4. She was very good but can't expect her to do everything. Owners children ran riot- so awful to try and enjoy a meal with unruly children running passed your table all the time. Owners children completely out of control. Dirty and not professional.

Great evening of dining and conversation. Seafood was delicious and excellent presentation. Menu had a variety of options to choose from. Lovely atmosphere and relaxing. The staff are attentive, friendly, knowledgeable. We even met the owner and chef.
I highly recommend the Crayfish Inn. What impressed me was that the restaurant was under a new owner and opened for about 2 months. Service was very excellent.

I knew the old Crayfish Inn fro the days of yore when it was the inplace for seafood.
So we decided to take a trip down memory lane.
The original building was burnt down and a new one took its place.
The decor and setting of the new one is very good and gives a good impression on entering.
Unfortunately we were the only table there on a Saturday night which spoilt the ambience. Clearly it is battling with the current state of the economy as many others on the South Coast are.
The service was good , the food and prices were average.
So I hope that they weather the storm and return to their heyday as it is a very nice place.
