We took our Canadian family and my daughter in law was in awe. Spent aged digging through the metal handles and door nobs. The highlight however, was my grand daughters (6 & 9 ) feeding the donkeys with carrots that are available in the shop. I find the prices rather expensive, but with dollars, the foreigners do not seem to mind

What an arb but amazing little place to visit. This shop stocks the weirdest of things from tin pots, plate, cups and pans to chandeliers, leather good, plants pots....... Actually, whatever. Had lunch in the restaurant, very traditional type of meals. You know it is a rustig place when you ask for a cappuccino and you are told, 'we do nothing fancy like that, just moer koffie'. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Even though we have visited this destination place several times we decided to try the restaurant for the first time. The fabled (small) lamb pies that I have previously bought (yes, 18 months ago at R40) are now served at R65 that was way over-priced with too much pastry and too little filling. We were the first people to be served with their new Barista/cappuccino setup and the coffee was nice, not too bitter.

Possibly the worst food in the Overberg, most probably in the Western Cape! The menu is extremely limited, outdated, completely stale and boring, and the prices are off the clock! This place lost its charm when the owners got greedy and decided that all visitors are stupid and will pay anything for the most mediocre food in the country.

I have stopped at many road stalls. His one has so much to offer. A few years ago I was in awe about their solar setup. Thanks to Dassiesfontein I have a "healthy" plant myself. But more about the place. Great restourant. You can browsw ther momentos, cheese and wine, selection of wood stoves, their clothing, preserves.... I think it should be called Dassiesfontein Mall. And Do buy a home baked bread from stone ground flour. It is a great gift to pair with farm butter which you can buy there and some biltong slices or a nice jam. Simple but great. I plan to drive there just to buy bread!!!

The "padstal" offers ample, secure parking outside, although caution is advised when navigating the flow of traffic. Its strategically positioned location along the N2 between Bot River and Caledon makes it an ideal stop for travellers seeking respite from the road. Our journey from Franschhoek to Struisbaai was punctuated by a delightful pause here. The staff exhibited exceptional friendliness and attentiveness. The quality of the coffee surpassed expectations, and the curio shopping experience was unparalleled, offering a diverse array of rugs, ornaments, and postcards. A visit to this establishment is highly recommended. We've made a note to return in the future, eager to indulge in another round of exceptional coffee and to peruse the unique curios on offer. Especially the "Nastergal" jam we discovered.

Ordered their 1 plate with 5 Boerekos dishes(Bobotie, Lamb curry, Beef curry, Afval, and Tomato stew). Absolutely fantastic... just like Ouma made it. Full of flavour, large portions, and all elements cooked to perfection. Would really recommend them, and will frequent again often.

Dassiesfontein used to be one of the go-to Farm stalls next to the N2 highway on the way back to Cape Town. This is definitely not the case anymore! From the second you walk into the place, the staff are unfriendly and unhelpful, all the bottles of preserves, jams and chutneys are piled on with dust and all the other items on sale are extremely over priced and equally as dirty. After browsing the place - which I might add is huge - we sat down for lunch and ordered from the black board. What a big mistake that was! The coffee was weak, the food looked like someone has scraped it out for its dog and some of our food wasn't hot enough. We also peeked into the kitchen to see if it is any cleaner and saw that they just warm the (already prepared) food in the microwave (6 of them) or dish from the 5 hot plates in the kitchen. What an absolute disgrace!! To pay R165 per portion of food and it is warmed in a microwave? We will never be back. I would rather drive the extra few miles and stop at Peregrine Farm Stall.

This farmstall looks interesting from the outside but looks can be deceiving. Do not stop! If you stop then you will experience terrible service and terrible food. If you have ever been in a school hostel then the food here will look and taste familiar. Carrots and peas cooked in water. Cheap rice and whatever else you get will be equally tasteless.

The food is proper South African and their portions are fit for a hearty appetite! They have a nice selection of wines. The restaurant is also surrounded by interesting shopping items. It is always a pleasure visiting this farm stall.

I have been to Dassiesfontein almost every time I drive past. Walking through their shop is a feast for the eyes and offers a lovely time browsing - the food however, well quite frankly, it was disgusting. My partner fancied the 'Biltong toastie' that was R80 (madness), but still thought it worth it. They quite literally stuffed biltong in-between two slices of extra thick farm bread, and toasted everything together. The biltong was so tough and looked as though it had been kept in the cupboard for over a year. There was no butter, no sauce, no cheese, and he was unable to swallow it (No word of a lie)! Come on guys, make an effort for something that costs so much! I had the chicken mayo along with my friend, even that was dry and they barely put any mayo on it at all. Stay away from the egg and bacon option too, once opened for a closer look, there wasn't even a full egg served on the sand-which. The prices are ridiculous, the toasties appalling, stop for a walk around, but if you are hungry....there are many places after Dassies!

A lovely restaurant with great food from a sandwich to a hot meal. Real style cooking, healthy portions for the hungry, lovely bread even bought some to take home. Situated in a lovely shop to make some excellent purchases from. Enjoyed the gazing at all the light fittings hanging overhead. Great service

I've been going to Dassisfontein for years now and always thoroughly looked forward to our trips there. Myself and my Mom love going through the masses of stuff from the cheese shop, gifts, leather section, clothes etc and always used to buy a few items, we love the variety. The last few times we've walked out shocked at the prices of everything ! Most things are terribly overpriced now and it just feels like a tourist trap. I also agree with a previous comment made by someone, the place could also use a good dusting and clean. Sad, I miss the old Dassies.

The breakfast menu is limited, portions are small and it’s not well cooked. It was a very disappointing bacon and eggs. And they are expensive for what they offer. They only serve coffee, no cappuccino’s or latte’s and then don’t even offer decaf. There is also room for improvement on service. The shop is interesting to browse.

Dassiesfontein is one of those "have everything" road side shops. Everything from coal stoves to dog jerseys to meals! The food was good to great. Items seemed to disappear from the menu as the stock ran out. Which was not so good for us arriving at 14h00 but good from the pooint of view that it indicates that it is all freshly made! The perlemoen seemed to be tinned, but as a first for me it was great. The portion sizes of the other meals was very generous with the sides prepared in the local manner. The prices of the items for sale seemed a bit on the high side but was nice just to browse.
