The "Gardesana" building has more than 500 years of history. It has been built by the Venetian Republic for the meetings of the Council of the Ten Communes of this side of the lake.After Napoleon, during the Austrian domination, until 1866, it had a dark period of decadence.At the end of the last century, it was transformed into a hotel and, in a few decades, it became the centre of culture, arts and good cuisine.In the last fifty years, it has been preferred by famous personages like: Beniamino Gigli, Toti Dal Monte, Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca, André Gide, Stephen Spender, Vivien Leigh, Lawrence Olivier, Maria Callas, Luis Trenker, Dino Risi, Ugo Tognazzi and Vittorio Gassman.In 1980 the building…

Excellent service, delicious food!

It was great from the beginning! Reservation was very easy made in Advance by email and I received promptly the positive reply. We were there as a pair and got an adequate table on the balcony, which offers a very fine view on the lakeside....The "Greeting from the cuisine" was not very creative, but taste and quality was good. Also the menu doesn`t offer that many, but there was something for every choice. For me it is better to have a smaller choice than a huge one, so I lose the overview and you can`t see the line of a restaurant. All the dishes we had, were excellent. The portions rather small but still o.k. For testing reason, I also tried the offered Risotto, which was one of the best I´ve ever had. Also the service was very attentive and friendly. This is a restaurant, which should be visited - it deserves at least one Michelin Star!More

Great place for our wedding day

Just had a wonderful evening in the Gardesana over delicious dishes, very caring service from Lillo and his team and a beautiful view on the harbor and old castle - just great!

Perfect hotel for a stay at Lake Garda

The hotel's position on Lake Garda is idyllic. Our room had a fantastic view of the plaza, the mini port and the lake - I don't think we've ever stayed in a hotel with such a stunning position. There are many restaurants within a stone's...throw, but their own restaurant was lovely (a little bit more pricey than those nearby - but lots of extras thrown in) and the service was great. Sitting outside the hotel drinking Aperol or cocktails was a real pleasure and the hotel always provided delicious canapes. The fabulous Monday market was a great surprise when we opened the curtains as we hadn't heard it being set up!! Parking was easy, just a 3-minute walk away.More

Beautiful spot

The staff was friendly and rightfully very proud of their restaurant. Not your typical pasta and pizza, but fine dining with a spectacular view. The dinner crepes and spinach appetizer were exceptional.

Excellent- Must try!

Fantastic Wedding Celebration

We married in the Scaligero Castle and did a lot of research on nearby restaurants before choosing Gardesana - what a fantastic choice! We were only a small wedding party of 6, but we were made to feel welcome and special from the minute we...ordered Apertif until the surprise of chocolate and sparkler to celebrate. I was in contact with Laura beforehand and they ensured a garlic allergy was fully catered for, and took all the stress away from planning from afar! She organised an area for aperitif in the bar area and a table on the balcony overlooking the castle we were just married in - stunning view. The food was fantastic - Tartare, Prawns and Ravioli were particular highlights, but it was the lemoncello crepes that stole the show! Thank you for a memorable evening - we will be definitely be back for our anniversary!More

Romantic and delicious

We came for an early dinner and were lucky to have a table on the terrace overlooking the small port and lake. The food was above average and service marvelous. The atmosphere was quite romantic and made for a memorable evening.

A charming hotel and a memorable stay!

We had a lovely three days at the Gardesana. The staff were pleasant, friendly and made us feel very welcome. We were picked up from the car park at nearly midnight which was very welcome after driving from Venice airport. The location is beautiful, overlooking...the marina and on the doorstep of the lake. Stephania, the host at breakfast went out of her way to add celebratory touches for a birthday and couldn’t have been nicer. Torri del Benaco is a lovely town on Lake Garda, not as big and busy as some of the other towns but with plenty of shops and restaurants.More
