Lovely Portuguese restaurant in St Helena Bay and on the water's edge. Stunning venue, great service and superb food. Fish courses were a little limited, but what we selected were both divine - yellowtail and the calamari and hake dishes for mains. Starters were calamari...strips and tentacles and West Coast mussels. Alegria vinho casa de mesa tinto had a harsh first taste, but settled on the palate well. Definitely worth another visit to this quaint place.More

What a beautiful setting with great service. It was our anniversary and we booked ahead. We had a beautiful view and the suggested Portuguese white wine which paired well with the seafood and chicken. Waiter was attentive and helpful. The chocolate mouse cake was a...surprise and tasted great. Beautiful celebrations.More

We booked weeks in advance and when we arrived at the restaurant our name was on top. Yet we were shown a table on the stage with almost no view. There was also no reserve sign on the table which clearly indicated that this was...just give to us. The service was terrible and the food is nothing to write about. I would classify it as basic to poor.More

Eisbein was great, amazing view. Not a fan of the house beer though other than that it was an enjoyable afternoon.

We passed by and we were pleasantly surprised. We had oysters, which were very tasty, a delight to eat. In the meantime the view is wonderful over the rocks at the sea. Fish of the day was cod. The taste was mouthfilling with the structure...of the fish coming through. Sweetness was a very nice lady waitress, with whom we had a good laugh. We ended with tiramisu and carrot cake. The tiramisu would be better with more coffee and cake and less cream. The carrotcake was delicious.More

For years we have been visiting Alegria due to its friendly vibe and views of the Atlantic that are hard to match. Being vegetarian all my life I made do with Greek salad and veg, but sometimes we would be treated to a dish specially...made for us, albeit clearly cheese as the savior. How the bloody hell, even if you're a Portuguese restaurant can you not have ONE dish for vegetarians?? A pasta, a platter of what's already available. JUST ONE DISH? Just spent Sunday lunch where even the salad dressing and olive oil was a 15 minute wait, mash and sauce forgotten. I've supported you for so long. Go swim in the ocean guys, wake up. Vegetarians, you have no place here - move along.More

Last night me and 7 of my colleagues had our year end dinner at Alegria Restaurant. I'll just cut to the chase... My Eisbein was crispy to the bone not succulent as it should be. The owner was grumpy and rude since we got there....Toward the end of the night he got very insulting, degrading and literally chased us out after we paid our bill of over R2000. Definitely never going there again!More

The setting right on the beach makes you feel like you could very well be somewhere on the mediteranean coast. The food too reminded of the med with deliciously prepared catch of the day. Friendly personal service and good wine made this a favourite of...the West Coast. If you havent been, do yourself a favour. Thank me later.More

Just wow. The food was absolutely scrumptious. Portions sizes are very generous. We had the Kabeljou (Cob) and Peixe no Forno (hake oven baked smothered in mushroom sauce and grated cheese. It was to die for. The view and setting is incredible, right on the...sea. Staff were knowledgeable and very friendly and efficient. A must in St Helena BayMore

The staff and the restaurant is tired and dirty and there were too many flies. We also asked for a seat with a sea view- (There was one open) and they said it was reserved. When we left 90 minutes later it was still open....The food was pretty average. The host was very grumpy and unpleasant. We won't return.More

A bit out of the way in a Beautiful setting overlooking the bay. We had a seafood platter for two. I’m not usually a mussel person but they were absolutely delicious. Friendly waiter. Very pleasant experience, overall.
