This place is in a nice location. The food was not great, the Balmoral chicken was way too spicy and almost convinced the sauce was ready bought in. Red cabbage over cooked and was almost a pale burgundy colour. The calamari was supposed to be...dusted with flour and deep fried and the coating was twice as thick and the calamari. The steaks were off the menu as no delivery this weekend. We thought we would have an Irish coffee, no freshly ground coffee on the premises, only instant. 😱🙈 The saving grace for the evening was the staff. We popped in to the old station restaurant for some drinks and maybe a bite to eat. The place was full but the lady who greeted us very kindly directed us to a table where the people were just leaving. We were content to just...have drinks, since we could see how busy the place was, but were told a bit later on, that the kitchen could squeeze us in for some food which was much appreciated. My partner had the steak and said it was great. I had the macaroni and it was equally good. So good we booked for another night and I had the same! The staff were brilliant, friendly and chatty, despite being extremely busy! If we’re back this way, this will definitely be our first port of call. Highly recommended!More

Menu easy to find (+download) on Google, but changes to reflect season and what quality stuff is available at market, which is always a good sign. Choice is relatively modest but carefully constructed to give enough variety in both starters and mains. £25-£30 a head...including wine. Couple of mains specials on the night too... We had an excellent meal! ...but remember to book and, while it's not noisy, go early evening if you specifically want to be quiet.More

Definately need to book in advance. This old station building is a lively & welcoming pub & restaurant. The staff were super friendly & constantly checking all ok. Service was speedy & efficient. Nice choice of menu with additional specials board.
