A popular local Pizza and Pasta house with a variety of wraps, sandwiches, salads and desserts also available. Offering dine in and take away options.Focusing on the fun in food and people, if you lucky enough to be here on the last wednesday of the month join us for our Open Mic / Music nights. Great service and it felt like eating at a family function

We had a terrible experience at Montagu Springs and our Braai was ruined so we went to the Town and found Burgundy Gherkin. We were so hungry and pizza just seemed like the best thing. The owner who is originally from Scotland was so accommodating, and showed so much empathy at our grumpy attitudes. But they allow you to bring your own wine which we did, a small corkage fee. And there are an array of pizzas to choose from. I had a veggie one called Japan and the other two friends had various pizzas. They were accommodating to change a few toppings at no additional charge. Shared some local knowledge which was great and the price point is reasonable with fresh ingredients used on the pizza. This is definitely a stop that you must do.

Hands down, still the BEST pizza around!

I'm an absolute sucker for pizza and Cape Town city hub has no shortage of good restaurants with excellent food/pizza. However, the best pizza to date remains to be found 2 hours outside of Cape Town in the beautiful little town of Montagu. So much so that every pizza I've had since I compared to that of Burgundy Gherkin's - Needless to say, none compare.

Great place for a bite in Montagu!

This place was a great find in town. Well worth a visit, great food and friendly staff. Came back again for takeout too! Serving Montagu well, and decent prices. Highly recommend!

Worst service

We sat for about an hour waiting for our take away pizza. We also asked the waiter 3 times to please take our drink order keeping in mind that there was on 2 people in the restaurant other than the 3 employees and owner. I visit Montagu atleast 4x a year because of my family who live there and I always visit The Burgandy Gherkin but I will never go back nor recommend it to any family or friends who also often visit Montagu purely for the mere fact that the owner of the restaurant was also there and did not even blink an eye. Our take away order was also wrong after confirming it twice. We ended up with chewey over baked pizzas 🍕

You say you have visited my restaurant often so you must of had good experiences as you kept coming back also you would of met me before and know that I am not a person that ignores my customers as this is my passion. I must be honest I do not recall anyone waiting this long for their pizza and requesting 3 times for their drinks to be ordered, so please can I ask you to send an email to burgundygherkin@gmail.com or on this platform and let me know when you experienced such bad service so I can check on the cameras and investigate this further. Pizza was average. Just! They are oven baked and not wood oven for those who are picky about that. Staff would not allow us to purchase a alcohol free Savanna with our take away. Makes absolutely no sense! They sell these at Pick n Pay, Spar and petrol stations. Apparently owners orders.

We stayed at the Montagu Country Hotel which had this informal restaurant across the road from it… name has changed though. All we can say; great pizzas and great value for money! Fantastic wine and service to boot… overlooking the main road.

It is a pizza place, but it is not wood fired

We found our two pizzas very average, the base not thin enough for our liking. My biggest disappointment was that it was not a woodfired pizza. My own fault I guess, I should have checked, but after the raving reviews on Tripadvisor I assumed such. To me an oven baked pizza can never be the real thing. I have no idea how this place got such good ratings. Will definitely try a different place next time, there is one with wood fired pizza in town. The owner came past and asked if all is ok, I could not complain really , just nothing to write home about. The staff was also very indifferent, maybe because it was close to closing time, the first day under the just announced level 3 curfew, or maybe just the time of the year. The price is reasonable for what you get, but the pizzas are very average and we certainly won't be back.

The Barmuda pizza was excellent from base to toppings!!! The Summer drinks are just amazing the waitresses are so helpful ND Rhoda is a true Gem. You can not come to montagu and leave without experiencing the Burgundy Gherkin.

I love visiting Montagu and most especially the Burgandy this is our 4th year staying in Montagu and Rhoda and staff always provide the best food and welcome.
