Excellent service with Devine tasting food which was a new experience during our recent holiday. Was an excellent stop , as recommended on our long drive from Franschoek to Oudtshoorn

I hereby insist that the Rambling Rose become a COMPULSORY stop-off in Montagu. Looking for something Sweet and Savoury? Breakfast? Chocolate Treats, a slice of Cake? Insane Coffee....Essentially every single edible delight that you typically try and avoid eating when you are 35+ can be...found in this Treasure Trove. The Rambling Rose has it all and pretty much anything that passes your lips has either been kneaded, imaginated, cooked or baked by Sergio or his Wife Cay.More

We opted to stop here en route to Cape Town. The reviews were great, and up to the milkshake were absolutely excellent. The service, the ambience, and the milkshake. We should have stopped there. The 5 dropped to 2 due to the venison meal and...vegetarian meal. Both bobotie. It was an absolute disaster. The venison was insipid and fatty. The vegetarian was tasteless. Both of us ended up with upset tummies as well! It's not cool for an establishment with great reviews and a good name. We dropped the ball team!More

My husband and I were on a bike trip for the long weekend, when we got caught in the worst storm to hit the Western Cape in the last 100 years! We decide to stop at The Rambling Rose for something to eat and decide...whether we were going to keep going or not. The staff were so welcoming and understanding, even though we left a trail of water from the entrance to our table. We had a fantastic breakfast, followed by a gorgrous cake and coffee whilst we dried out, as they had the fires going. We eventually decided it wasn't safe to continue and booked accommodation for the night, but had to wait 2 hours before our room was available. We were quite embarrassed that we were taking up a table that someone else could have been using, but the manager on duty reassured us that it was no problem for us to stay warm and dry and safe inside. I had a lovely wander around the shop, admiring their beautiful products and smelling all the gorgeous soaps and candles, etc. Do yourself a favour and stop there next time you are in Montague - you won't be sorry.More

What a fabulous place... We'd intended to stop only for coffee, but rapidly changed our minds as we walked in. I guess it was the warm atmosphere (and the display of breads and other comestibles) that did it. We all enjoyed our food - and...the home made ginger beer and naartjie juice, both extremely good - but the Rambling Rose Burger was truly outstanding; possibly the best beef burger I have ever encountered, made on the premises of course. The Cay's Hot Sauce (I think - maybe Kay's) was also some of the best I've ever tasted and I was delighted to find that it was available to buy - and our meals were enlivened by it for the rest of our road trip into the Eastern Cape. Truly outstanding. Our waiter was also stand-out - a magnificent grin, and an engaging, friendly, helpful personality. (Feels like I'm gushing about the place, but truly, it was a stand-out experience and a great start to our holiday.) To my delight I discovered that some friends are going to Montagu for the weekend - they've been instructed to bring some of that hot sauce back with them.More

Excellent food and service. The breakfast was fantastic and we would recommend Rambling Rose any time. They were busy from early in the morning, which is always a good sign. The service was great, even with a restaurant full of visitors.

Stopped for lunch and ordered the out-of-this-world Portuguese Peri-Peri chicken! Best I've ever had. The ambience is wonderful, the owner very attentive, the menu extensive, including vegan options. Would like to try many dishes as they all look delicious.
