The second restaurant we visited on our trip this year, alongside 22 on Church. Definitely a big contrast in terms of decor. Our landlady called it: New York in Montagu... You have to visit the restaurant for that reason alone. We had expected a younger crowd... far from it... at almost 60 years old, we lowered the average age of the visitors considerably - at least yesterday. The music, described in the reviews as "too loud jazz"... definitely not too loud but audible and fitting for the location, but when a hit remake from the 80s by Julio Eglesias came on, we couldn't stop laughing. So much for the "all around" ;-). The food was very good. In particular, "Picanha" - the house speciality (it's boiled beef, which hardly anyone here knows grilled) was excellent, but I would have missed a bit of soy sauce or something similar with the grilled tuna. The price/performance ratio was reasonable, the service was top-notch and the atmosphere very relaxed. Absolutely to suggest.

Just book and go as you will not be disappointed. We highly recommend this restaurant. It’s on the edge of town so you would probably drive, but there is a big parking lot so easy access. Our waiter (Moffat) was incredibly helpful so ensuring we negotiated some dietary requirements and as a result we had a very enjoyable meal. We would definitely go again on our next visit to Montagu. Thank you

Found ourselves in Montagu on a Friday night with no dinner reservation. Called Blu Vines in the hope they could squeeze us in. Big thanks to Josh for helping us out. What started as a last-minute decision turned into a lovely evening. Josh was really funny and helpful. Nice, local winelist at reasonable prices. Food was delicious - tasty gnocchi for our vegetarian family members and the prawn and chicken curry for us. We loved the curry so much the chef came to talk to us and even kindly wrote out the recipe for us. Even although we arrived towards the end of service we weren't hurried along. The (grown up) kids even enjoyed a Don Pedro after dinner. Thanks again for rescuing us - the kids were supposed to book dinner but didn't get round to it!

The glass of wine wasn’t poured in front of us, it was just under half filled, the salad had old tomatoes and was tasteless, no salad dressing was offered. The gnocchi said mushroom in a Neapolitan sauce, no mushrooms, just a thin cream mushroom flavour. We didn’t eat it, all went wrong. We never ate it and were charged, no solutions offered! Disgusting service. Have never ever had an experience like this before!

5 star all the way - superb restaurant. The manager and everyone of his staff members are friendly, professional, knowledgeable and super efficient. I cannot praise them highly enough and have never experienced a better team of staff than this in any restaurant anywhere in the world. We ate here 2 nights running in the somewhat difficult circumstances of load shedding but the staff and the chefs still knocked it out of the park. The ambiance and the quality of the food is fantastic. Do not miss out if you are in this area.
This place is a diamond shining through the sands of mediocrity.

Decor was a contemporary ostentatious retro but very stylish testament. Our food was delicious. I had Sea Bassf my friend seared Tuna.
Staff were friendly and tried their best.
To few staff for fine dining.
Wine not poured, too busy.
Our 3 mains were not accompanied by our 3 sides initially we only got 2.
It's expensive, but if the staff was not overworked, drinks poured, food with sides. I would have been happy to pay.

We had dinner here in February 2023 and enjoyed it so much, we simply had to return. I book online, well in advance so as not to be disappointed having been lucky to get a late booking on our first visit. On arrival we received the warmest of welcomes and the expression of gratitude for our return.
We were treated again to a most beautiful meal and wonderful wine, I would say the highlight of our holiday in South Africa. After dinner we were taken to view the fabulous outdoor kitchen and we greeted by the amazing chef who was only too happy to show us around.
We will definitely put Blu Vines on our schedule when we return to Montagu.

We arrived during loadshedding however the restaurant was well prepared and we were greeted with friendly but professional staff. The decor is outstanding. The steaks were superb, probably the best steak I have eaten in a restaurant. There was no need to add any seasoning to any of the food, the flavor of the steak was superb and perfectly cooked and rested.
We had the mimosa reserve pinotage with it , a very good wine

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Blu Vine again. The food wine and service was outstanding. We had a lovely waiter called Stan who recommended the steak and my husband said it was the best steak he has had in SA! My chicken peri peri was delicious. We love the decor and the surroundings! It now also has a lovely shop.

In my 15 years of working in the service industry ive never came across such a perfect experience.
From the moment we arrived everyone was very helpful and considerate.
Our tasting and food was not only good value for money but well presented by our charismatic host Antio which made us feel well at home.
I truly admire the way the owner Richard is visible on the floor at all times and making a true effort to interact with guests and attend everyones needs by helping his staff.
From the coffee, to wine, ambience and food presented and prepared to perfection with beautiful views and impresive designs of the restaurant inside out.
Something small like the waiters performing live and if i might add our host Antonio who has a great voice was just the cherry on top.
Please take the time to stop by and support as i can assure you that you wont be dissapointed.

We decided to have dinner and wine pairing and were impressed by the food and pairing. The interior decor is quite bold and really and eye-catcher. The menu is varied. We absolutely loved the pickled beetroot that was played beautifully also the kingklip and Karoo lamb shank were mouthwatering. Overall the food was really well-balanced and even more enhanced by the Goedverwacht wines that it was paired with. Definitely a must when in Montagu!

We have eaten here many times. Roger, Freddy and Josh are excellent hosts. We have had several dishes - I love the Patagonia Calamari - my partner loves the beef tranchard or the lamb shank. All dishes are wonderful and the wine selection is good. Cannot recommend this place too highly!

BluVines seems to have bounced back with some vigour since restrictions were lifted. We were impressed that the owner, Richard, took the trouble to greet us and show us around. What’s particularly striking about BluVines is the attention to detail and the contrasting areas of the restaurant, meaning that there’s a place for everyone, children and dogs included. We started off with some wine tasting (R50 for four wines) next door. Whilst it’s generally unusual to pay for wine tasting in SA, our experience was more personal than we’ve enjoyed before and so we didn’t begrudge the charge. The lunchtime menu covers most of the bases, but was light on vegetarian options. The view of the mountain made up for the shortcomings.

The decor is amazing then the service and food outstanding.
Blow me away the waiters and chef’s start singing and suddenly you think your in a show and tell you what these guys are amazing.
I would say best restaurant ever !!!

This was our best dining experience in Montagu and I would recommend anyone visiting this beautiful town to dine in BluVines. We had a pre dinner drink on the terrace with stunning views over the mountain range. Dinner 'inside' with excellent service and attention to detail. My Fillet Steak was the best I have had in my entire one month South African stay and can be highly recommended. The team was friendly and atmosphere in the restaurant lovely. The decor doesn't appeal to me but the food and service made up for it.
