We stayed in Macerata one night on our way from Puglia to the UK. The hotel didn't have a restaurant and this was one of the two they recommended. We chose this one because it was downhill from the hotel and we figured we'd have...more energy to walk back up after a meal. Good call! The welcome was great. We have a dog and although most Italian restaurants don't have a problem with dogs we always ask if he can come in. "Of course" was the response and he and we were made to feel really welcome. The menu was typically Italian with antipasti, primi, secondi, pizze etc. We'd been in the car 7 hours and weren't overly hungry so ordered a starter of fritto misto to share and two pasta dishes. The fritto misto included olives, carcioffi, polpette, pataine (yes, chips) and, strangely to our tastes, crema. For those who don't know crema is like confectioner's custard, so to have it with savoury items was, well, unusual. Got to say it was delicious on its own though! The pasta was fresh and beautifully cooked, mine with heaps of smoked salmon and my other half's with a beef ragu. We had intended to have desserts but were too full as it turned out. Great value - just over 30 euros including water and wine. We'd eat there again, with keener appetites, and recommend it to others.More
