This may be a tiny little place on the beach , but one that serves food packed with flavour! The servers bring out a little tea kettle with warm water to wash your hands before food is served - which is quite cool, and hygienic.
I ordered the prawn curry and rice - the prawns were juicy and the curry was thick and delicious. I was left wondering whether I could lick the bowl clean.
Pro tip - to ensure you get the daily catch dish, or the local dish ( banana with fish) send them a WhatsApp message in the morning with your anticipated dining / arrival time. The number is listed on the menu, pictures of which have been shared by other travellers.
Also, while the menu lists prices in local currency, you can also pay in USD. However any change will be in local tanzanian shilling.

You have not been to Zanzibar if you haven’t gone to eat at Bin Jabir’s restaurant on Matemwe beach!
The food is fresh, tasty and the portions are really big (check my lobster pic) and the prices are a fraction of what you would pay in Europe.
My favorites were the grilled octopus and lobster , but there are many other options to choose from.
Bakari buys it every morning from the local fisherman directly on the beach. Furthermore you can whatsupp message him with what you want and at what time and he will have it ready by the time you get there.
Besides the food I found Bakari to be a real genuine human being. He is friendly, humble, honest with a great personality and confident in strenghts.
Because of the food, Bakari personality and the scenery I went to eat there 6 days out of the 10 I was on Zanzibar.
Also if you are interested in snorkeling or diving Bakari can arrange that as well at a better price than the dive shops you find on the beach.

We’ve been in Zanzibar for 6 weeks and have tried a lot of great dishes, most of them very good, but this restaurant is a standout. We ordered the filleted grilled red snapper with salad and fries, and the food was outstanding. The fish was grilled perfectly—moist but cooked, the fries were almost as good as American friends, and the salad tasted so good especilly the fresh tomatoes and green pepper, and the dressing was just enough to bring out flavor in the vegetables. My husband had beer and I had a big bottle of waer and the price came out to less than $10 each.

My friend and I visited Bin Jabir on a Sunday night, we arrived at about 7.30 pm and we were the first guests there. The restaurant is very small with about 7-8 tables and the furniture is placed straight on the sand. I ordered a prawn curry with rice and my friend ordered the lobster. We were both happy with the food although it took a while to get it. Later on we learned that you can pre-order via whatsapp so the food is ready when you arrive. The most remarkable thing that happened while there was that a mouse (!!) fell down from the straw roof straight into the restaurant during our meal! The restaurant cat took care of it in seconds but I think all guests were a bit startled... just lucky it didn’t fall onto someone’s plate. Unfortunately, the waitor was in the kitchen when it happened so we didn’t get his reaction. Bin Jabir accepts payment in dollars but all prices are in tanzanian shillings, and we got change back in the local currency as well.

We visited the restaurant at 12pm and saw the chef cleaning a fresh octopus. We asked if we could eat the nice octopus, they asked us to come back 2 hours later, because they had to clean it, beat it for tenderness, marinate it, and cook it. We came back later, and I can honestly say we had the best octopus we ever had anywhere else. We highly recommend this place. Its authentic, runned by locals, and you are received with warm smiles.
If you want to taste the best seafood, forget about your hotel dining, and come discover the best and fresh seafood in bin jabir restaurant. We just loved it ❤️ thank you so much for your hospitality and filling our hungry stomachs ;)

During our stay at Kena hotel, we decided to give a chance to this local restaurant. As a result we got the most Hospitable and friendly service we have ever got. As we kept coming back to the place, they kept on offering us different types of seafood, so we never ate the same dish twice.

Definitely the best place around to eat. We saw it the first day while we were strolling along the beach, but it looked really gloomy and not trust-worthy. Big mistake!!! After we googled it, decided to give it a go. A must visit. Super delicious food, big portions and best prices in the neighbourhood. You can call them and order in advance and just go and pick it up or eat there. We had tuna with chips and the plate for 1- mix of 2 prawns, a flat head lobster, octopus, calamari. Yummy, yummy!

My husband and I loved Bin Jabir so much that we went 3 times during our trip! Fish and seafood is fresh and absolutely delicious - especially with their magic butter sauce. The view on the beach is spectacular, and the staff are so friendly. Prices are very reasonable. You can order in advance via WhatsApp if you don't want to wait (bear in mind that they prepare everything from scratch), but we thoroughly enjoyed the view while waiting. Tips: Go for sunset and don't miss the opportunity to eat at Bin Jabir. Highly recommended!

Best value for money in whole Zanzibar !!! The best sea food, fresh, big portions, low price. My god I already miss eat. Take his number and ask him in the morning what fish he got, you may be lucky and he will keep you a special fish.
The plate I prefered : cigal and octopus.... don’t hesitate to ask for a custom plate
Be careful on Google maps it is the “New Bin Jabir”

We messaged Bakari via WhatsApp in the morning to let him know we wanted to come to his restaurant. We placed our order, & he told us when he would be ready. We got there on time, everything was set up & wow, it was incredible! The lobster was the size of an arm & cooked to perfection. The seafood platter also came with a rock lobster, calamari, octopus & prawns - all delicious. The rustic setting right on the beach front just topped off an incredible meal.

Delicious seafood, friendly service and right on the beach. The grilled octopus was outstanding. As with almost all restaurants in Zanzibar, food took quite a while to come out (which we didn’t mind, as we had plenty of time). The owner suggested we call or Whatsapp our orders in advance, which we did for our second visit, and we were served much quicker. Highly recommended.

Nestled just of the beach Bin Jabir is an absolute gem! The restaurant is shaded, has views of the beach and a lovely, local atmosphere. The prices where very fair.
Our waiter Hussain was friendly, polite and welcoming. Hussain informed us as all the fish was freshly caught off the beach that morning.
I opted for the prawns and my husband had the grilled tuna, both with rice which was cooked perfectly. It was absolutely delicious.
We had a spice tea to follow which I highly recommend!

What an excellent beachside restaurant! Unfortunately we only had the chance to eat here once. We had the delicious and supersized lobster, and really flavoursome and perfectly seared tuna. Everything was super fresh and really expertly cooked. Not enough praise for this beachside gem- keep up the good work!

Based on the previous reviews we had booked. The restaurant, experience and food were disappointing. Although we were the only guests we had to wait a very long time for confirmation that what we had ordered was indeed in stock. Then it took a very long time to prepare everything. Lobsters were eventually overcooked and not tasty. Service was inconsiderate.
