Very good food, very nice place hidden behind the trees and also a really nice live band (on fridays) with modern traditional music. A place you can always come back to. A little more expensive for Zanzibar.

Enjoying the morning's beautiful sunrise from the comfort of your own bed wasn't an experience I ever thought would happened but, Zanzibar Sunrise, we got just that! You can't get closer to the north coast beach front than you do at Zanzibar Sunrise. This beautiful...boutique offers its guests a luxury stay in beautiful traditional style. Our host, Savanah, went out of her way to make us feel welcomed & enjoy our stay. Big thanks to her for all the hospitality she gave us!More

We stayed there for a couple of days and really enjoyed it. The bungalows are front row and there are sunbeds right in front of it. In October the wind blew strong and the tides were timed that half of the day swimming was not...possible in the sea. You should also wear swimming shoes (provided by the hotel) because of the many „Seeigel“ in the shallow water. The hotel has two very nice pools - very clean. The meals we had were excellent (try the soups & tuna!). Only on the last day it seemed that they have switched the cook and the quality dropped a little bit. The staff is very polite and helpful. If there is a problem, they try to help in the best possible way. We definitely recommend staying there!More

We stayed for a week in September 2022. We would recommend to other travellers and had a great stay! - rooms are nice with lovely views. A little basic (eg. Won’t have facilities of a 5* place like hairdryer, iron, minibar, to etc but you...really don’t need this at all in a laid back island setting), but they are spotlessly clean and had maid service every day to change sheets and clean the bathrooms. They also came every evening to put mosquito nets and spray which was a nice touch. - restaurant bar area is a cool space with really nice food. Breakfast included every day and can order whatever you like and great selection. Lunch and dinner options were varied and had some amazing tuna, lobster, fresh salads, prawn curry, pasta etc. we are very into food and restaurants and we were very impressed with the food. It’s not fine dining but good quality comparatively to other meals we had during Tanzania. Cocktails were also great! - right on the beach- the views are great. Only downside is the sea is a little seaweed heavy and there are lots of sea urchins so not as easy to swim as I expected. You need swim shoes but you can borrow these from the hotel. - location is good for getting to mmeba island for snorkelling (can do half day trip for 40USD) however I would say that this location is very underdeveloped and if you are hoping to go to other restaurants / bars in the area there were not options that we really dared to dry. It seemed there was more choice on the north weest side of the island for this if you enjoy trying more variety however the price we paid to stay here seemed much cheaper than the hotel options there so maybe it balances out. The consequence being though we had every meal in the hotel and never left and ideally I would have been able to go to some other restaurants/ bars as prefer a little bit of variety. - it’s very laid back and cool and the staff very friendly. Live music Tuesday and Fridays was really cool and we loved these evenings - v unique and would highly recommend.More

We came to Zanzibar sunrise twice during our stay in Matemwe. The beach is perfectly safe to walk even in the dark. We went on Friday and Tuesday night and the music was very good and entertaining on both occasions! On the Tuesday we also...had dinner there and the food was outstanding. Amazing tuna tartare for starter, lobster tagliatelle and the best beef skewers I’ve ever tasted (melted in the mouth and perfect seasoning!). Would recommend. Also very big and filling portionsMore

We had 2 times diner at Sunrise during our holiday. We could walk in the evening from our villa to the restaurant over the beach. Even when it was dark this is perfectly safe, almost nobody on the beach. On Friday we had diner with...live music which is nice, don't forget to make a reservation. During a music night they have a limited menu which was nice. We had lobster which was really tasty. The other night we had Tuna which was the best I ever tasted.More

We stayed almost one week at Sunrise at Bandas and we had such a great time. The landscape is fascinating and Matemwe tucked away from the crowds. The hotel itself is lovely and very stylish with generous outdoor areas and beautiful seafront bandas. However what...made the real difference is the kind and funny staff. Everywhere we went - in the restaurant, in the gardens or at the beach - they were so lovely, helpful and always making us smile. The hotel seems also super well connected to the local village. We did the village and reef walk and can't thank our guides Juma and Ali enough for allowing us a glimpse into local life. For almost a week we didn't wear shoes at the resort and were just outdoors. Also no need to worry for Covid as the areas are so generous and open and there is always a lovely breeze. Absolute recommendation!More

During our stay in Zanzibar, we ate here a lot. The choice on the menu ist fantastic, every dish we tried, and we tried a lot, was delicious and interesting. They span quite a range, from very fresh japanese style tuna to delicious pasta or...a steak or burgers, great vegetarian choices as well. But the seafood was definitely my favourite. Drinks a just as delicious and the staff were always freoindly, whatevere time one turned up they were there for you, extremely friendly and helpful. The evenings with live musioc are extremely entertaining and superb bands we heard.More

We landed here at 11am and even though the check-in time was at 1pm, we got the room by 12 noon. We had booked a couple's massage and OMG, what a treat! Mary and Mariem were exceptional that we did not want to step out...of the hotel - so relaxed. Took a walk by the beach and the environment was completely serene. I am a pure vegetarian (no eggs, meat or fish I can eat dairy) - the chef and team understood this from day, the food was finger licking good that we came back one day after switching hotels just for take away ❤️ Bart, Moussa, Eva and Sylvia to name a few (the entire team is extremely warm and welcoming) - you made our stay so special 🙏🏻 We cannot wait to return back.More

Perfect food and 10/10 service. Portion size was filling and the fish was super fresh. I started wih barracuda carpaccio, ate numerous tuna tartares during my stay, everything was my favourite. Each meal was consistent, exciting and yummy. The bed was so comfortable, deep sleeps...with the sound of the waves on the shore. I leave transformed. Excellent hospitality... I haven't worn my shoes since I arrived. This place is super chilled and the staff were very kind. I didnt do much other than lie in a hammock, look at the sky, look at the beautiful turquoise sea.. the sand at Matemwe is as soft as talc.More
