About
A restaurant is judged by the abilities of both its chef and management. Where these positions are held by the same person, the restaurant is very special. Such is Beef and Barrel, Owner and chef Robert Moreland has experience as a chef in some of the Western Cape’s finest hotels including the Mt Nelson, La Vita, Tulbach Hotel and Mariner’s Warf. He established Beef and Barrel in Malmesbury in 1989 …and hasn’t looked back. It’s a husband and wife team. Hesleen has been at his side since 1989 and they personally grill/fry/prepare your food while assisted by other kitchen staff – and that is why after 28 years they are still considered to have the finest seafood and steaks in the Swartland. (The extensive menu also includes pizzas, ribs and burgers.) The Beef and Barrel is also fully licensed – a tastefully furnished bar is at your disposal and that of your guests…

Normally a surf and turf is paired with a not so good piece of meat, however at beef and barrel they plated a awesome meal that was simply delicious!! Both the calamari and beef was top quality. Very impressed and definitely recommend this place!

Beef and Barrel is a very nice place to eat. The food is very nice and they have specials which is very nice.
I would refer people to go and eat there.

We had a hamburger and chips. Was very nice and will definately visit again to try some of their steaks. Beer was also nice and cold.

We went on Friday and have been to Beef and Barrel many times. One of our favourite dinner spots.
You never feel crowded and we have always gotten great service.
On Friday my husband once again loved his steak. I had a half portion beef schnitzel which was still HUGE. Come hungry! Luckily you can take a doggy bag.
The Old Man Sauce is great.
Only suggestion: maybe consider a salad or veggies such as spinach or broccoli as an included side option other than the chips, rice, baked potato or sweet potato.

After a long day on the road we decided to overnight in Malmesbury and to have dinner at BEEF AND BARREL. I had a chicken cordon bleu with sweet patato, my husband had 500g fillet with a oldman sauce. This was a propper 500g fillet, perfectly cooked and rested. My gordon bleu was succulent and the sweet patatos was like pudding!!. A good bottle of Cabernet rounded everything perfectly off.Highly reccommendable.

The food is outstanding. I've eaten here many times and ordered various dishes. I could never fault anything. Good value for money as the portions are not small! You will probably need to take a doggie-bag :)

Atmosphere is conducive for family or business. The owner gives the patrons personal attention. Every dish on the menu is succulently prepared. An amazing dinning experience.

This place is fantastic with the perfect ambiance and service. Recommend it highly even if you have to drive over 60 kilometres, IT IS SO WORTH IT!! The best burger I have ever eaten. Service is also very efficient, although a smile every now and again would be appreciated. Will definitely go back for a more substantial meal with friends or family

Calamari starter, big chunks, too big actually and only ok. They tried, with herbs in the batter, but........However, the burger I ordered, cheddamelt (mushroom and cheese) was brilliant. Proper meat, proper charred flavour, properly cooked. Nothing fancy, just brilliant. A real burger. Choose your sauce, the base remains a winner. Mooi so!

Don't judge a book by it cover (or name for that matter) is exactly what came to mind after having a very delicious meal at Barrys. Service was prompt & efficient. The food ws very well prepared by owner. I could not believe that by the time we left the restaurant was packed to capacity, so clearly a favourite with the locals.

While staying in Malmesbury we went out for supper to Barrys Beef & Barrel what an aweosome evening, I ordered the Steak roll (JHO A MUST) which was flipping amazing, not only the food was amazing but the staff were very professional. Well done keep it up

Mt second visit to Barry's Beef & Barrel - Thought the first time I just "Got Lucky" - But NO - they run a stunning show with fantastic food. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food - and my Hottentot - freshly speared by the man himself.
Recommend to all - including the larneys that live in Cape Town - take a trip up country and see how life is really lived
