Hidden away behind other shops but a big sign in front. Plenty of parking in the community parking lot. The friendly and helpful staff is very professional. The restaurant interior is reminiscent of a restaurant in Japan. The happy hour (4 - 6) is a...good time for 1st timers to get a taste of very traditional Japanese taste. The oden is especially delicious and the broth is fabulous! The sample sushi platter featured very fresh fish as did the sample sashimi platter. Both will be omakase - chosen by the chef - but be expected to be happily surprised. The yakitori - skewered chicken - was also delicious! Price is moderate to expensive based on when and what you order. Well worth a visit to experience excellent Japanese cuisine in a nice ambience!More
A small Japanese style robatayaki tucked away on the parking lot side of 11th Avenue in Kaimuki. Food is excellent. Service can be slow when busy.and it gets busy often. A good place to eat Japanese comfort food and drink beer. Kampai!
My friend and I went for happy hour. It wasn’t super cheap ($20 for me with no drinks) but the food was yummy. I’d go back again.

I noticed by chance from the advertisement of the restaurant that they specialize in authentic traditional Japanese cuisine and I went there with my wife for dinner to try it out. We parked the car nearby the address at 11th Ave, but it took us...more than ten minutes to find out where it was as the entrance is hidden inside a building. The restaurant is small with simple deco and table arrangements. We started with some skewers and would say that the quality of meat could be better. The grilled whole squid was rather disappointing and sushi was just average. The wine menu included a limited choice of red and white wines. The service was better than expected and prices were fairly reasonable. Overall, it is just an ordinary eatery.More

The salmon/salmon roe donburi ($18.50) I had was superb!! It came with salad and 4 small vegie/tofu dishes. One of my friends had pork cutlet, which was not satisfactory to her taste, the pork was too thin, she said.
I like my food clean and simple. Not a lot of garnish, sauce, hate parsley, green onions and the dreaded orchid of no meaning. Aki delivers with simplicity, flavor and class. Core menu built around a charcoal yakitori grill. No faux gas stove here. Fills...the room with that active sent of BBQ goodness. You know something good is being grilled to the chefs focused perfection. But they also got specialty sashimi headlined on blue fin toro with the usual red, white and orange culprits Add some deep fried dishes, grilled fish, light salads and a smattering of Izakaya hits and you can find Japonese fulfillment. Full bar and my favorite real Japanese Asahi nama draft beer (not that fake Kirin from CA, fake Sapporo from WI or fake Asahi from Canada). Aki is a petite space not holding more than 30 patrons. Again a clean design, white walls, simple tables, wood floor and accents with bright pin spotted tables. No need for flash when you do your food porn shots. Staff is attentive especially if you can converse in Nihongo. This is their space and you are a guest. Embrace the Japanese culture and cuisine and you will be in taisho heaven. Best new Japanese restaurant right now. And the reasonable price points are the azuki on the ice cream!More
