With some extra hours free in our trip, we decided to visit Morristown and see a few of the local attractions. We wanted to enjoy their museums, and a nearby lunch spot seemed a good idea. Ridgedale Lunch is a classic hold-in-the-wall diner. It occupies...what seems to have once been a family home, with a half-dozen booths, a lunch counter, and the kitchen all contained in what once might have been a living room. We took our seats as the only lunch customers, but the place started to fill up with locals as we ate--always a good sign.. I was impressed that the staff was able to converse with customers in Spanish. Their menu is mainstream--breakfast all day, sandwiches, burgers, the only signature item was the Ridgedale Dog, so I ordered a double. It was two hot dogs, slit lengthwise, and served on a hoagie roll topped with onions, peppers, and potatoes. I suppose if you order the single it comes on a regular hot dog bun? Anyway, it was very messy to eat and I finally opted to go at it with knife and fork, I think the chef should tweak the recipe a little--the roll was too much bread, and the potatoes were vland--I think I'd have crisped up the potatoes like home fires and salted them well, that would make it better. Ny serving also had chips and a little cole slaw, and the slaw was excellent. My wife went for their French toast, and was amazed at the quantity of food--I think it was three or four whole slices of bread, nicely prepared. Overall, it was a lot of good to greeat food for very little money with good service. No complaints.More
