We ate here 3 times on this visit to Kona. Our first visit this time was for Valentines Day. I had made a reservation online before leaving home, which was the best idea. There was live music during the Valentine's Day dinner. The menu offers a wide variety of fresh fish or beef. The service is very professional and friendly. We enjoyed all our meals here very much. My only complaint was that Happy Hour pricing does not apply to the people eating in the restaurant, only the bar patrons got half price drinks. This didn't really make sense to me. Restaurant Customers are spending more money for meals in the dining room, they should catch a break on drinks which are $12-$15 for a cocktail. The manager is friendly & attentive and is often seen walking around checking with people that everything is ok, and he is quick to respond to any issues. Clean accessible bathrooms, limited parking. We walked here from the King Kamehameha hotel. Worth the experience, for the delicious fine dining.

We were not sure upon entering this restaurant, which is directly on Kona's main drag, whether it was a tourist trap?! We were pleasantly surprised with the attentive service, the warm hospitality, the delicious food, and the good value for our meal. We had fish and chips (mahi mahi). The fish tasted fresh and it was lightly breaded. We had sweet potato fries and cole slaw, both of which were tasty -- the cole slaw included small pieces of fresh pineapple, a refreshingly good addition! The restaurant had an open view of the ocean, which was much appreciated as we enjoyed our meals.

Went to Fish Hopper on New Year's Eve for dinner, the wait was not too bad around 30 minutes and since it's right on the bay there was a nice breeze. Our seats ended up being at the end closest to the bay so we had a really nice view. Service and the dinner specials were good. For being an outdoor environment we were still able to have conversation at a normal level, no yelling to be heard or anything like that even though there is a bar at the entrance and we were fairly close to the bar. Our server Hope, suggested the Poke nachos and they were really good, well I almost all the Poke I had while in Hawaii was really good, but this was a really good dish. Only one of our party of four had something off the regular menu, so I cannot comment on how those dishes are, but the specials were really good so hopefully the regular menu follows suit. Next time I am back, I will for sure stop by again to try more of the menu.

The concierge at two different location recommended this place for supper. We adel reservation were given a great table at the window. The service was very good and the Appetizers an drinks were good. Our seafood dinner came and we discovered that even good seafood can be poorly presented. The Mahi-Mahi May have been fresh but is was fried and overly fried. My risotto fish dish was so oily that it was barely edible. The good news - we know where not to go next time.

We had a reservation for a party of four but arrived 15 minutes late due to very limited parking. A very friendly hostess informed us our table had been given to others so we waited in the bar for 20 minutes until one opened for our use. Based on past experiences, I am always a bit suspicious when restaurants have the menu laminated, with lots of pictures. We all had their highly touted clam chowder. We found it to be very, very thick and quite expensive. While good, we agreed that it was above average but certainly not the best ever. My wife had the coconut shrimp and I had the fish and chips. Both were very generous portions but, especially my fish, very heavily battered. I eventually cut off the battered portions and just ate the fish. Our friends each had a fish dish, one with Mahi Mahi and the other had the snapper. Both liked their choices and, after sharing some of each with my wife and me, we agreed that their choices were far better. Every member of the staff was friendly, professional, and very helpful. The wine list was very good, with prices reasonable and fair. If we go back, I know what I will not order.

On our last night in Kona, we decided to dine at Fish Hopper, one of our favorite restaurants because of the availability of Monchong, a local white fish. I made reservation via Open Table and arrived to find our table was being cleared and sanitized. The tables were spread out due to Covid, the staff wore masks and each table was sanitized every table after patrons left. We felt comfortable being there. We were seated at a window table, our wait time but a few minutes. Our waitperson arrived shortly thereafter and let us know the specials of the day. We ordered two glasses of ice Tea ($2.95), then we both chose the Monchong dinner ($34.95) but this time without the Risotto, instead opting for mashed purple potatoes (better choice although we like both). The meal was presented well, the temperature hot and the seasoning very good. We enjoyed our meal and a beautiful sunset beyond the pier. A nice way to spend out last night on Hawaii Island. Suggest making reservations to avoid a 20 minute + wait time if you arrive without reservations. The restaurant is at reduced capacity due to Covid restrictions.

Fish Hopper offers Monchong, a Hawaiian white fish, on the menu as a regular item which is why we dined there during a recent stay in Kona. We enjoyed a splendid evening with wonderful service provided by Lauren. On this visit we ordered tropical green iced tea, a new tea on their menu. It was very refreshing and our empty glasses were filled up often. We ordered Monchong which comes with an Artichoke Risotto. It’s flavor is outstanding. Being a Veteran, a small American flag was placed on our table as is done for all Veteran guest, with a complimentary dessert of one’s choice being offered. We chose the Chocolate Macadamia nut pie for dessert. Wow! What a sinful dessert, soooo ..good. Will return.

The Fish Hopper has been one of my favorite places to dine in Kona. I rate their clam chowder as the best I have had. Some meals have been absolutely memorable. On this night it was rather windy, but we still sat at one of the view tables. The sun had set, but people watching is so much fun. Server Vicki was right on top of things, got our orders in quick. I went with the special Nairagi/Shrimp, and my friend had the Parmesan Chicken. Of course, we had to start with a cup of the Chowder. Thick and rich, the recipe is rumored to include a splash of champaign. I did not notice the missing shrimp, when my plate arrived. The perfectly cooked marlin steak, needed no special sauce, and was a good portion. Yet this was an expensive entrée, and should have come with all the components. Cleaning my plate, I had Vicki bring by the dessert tray. They have a large selection of homemade, (not vendor sourced) desserts, many not listed on their menu. I like this method of selecting them. You can see portion size, and composition, vs. description. I went with the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Pie again, as many places serve a version of this. Theirs still is the best, but an uptick in price since last time. . Service was attentive and friendly, yet they really need to evaluate the presumptuous tip amounts that printed on my receipt, (20%,22%,25%) really! I was rewarding good service, all vacation, but making you feel like a cheapskate tourist if you go below. I hope they fix this soon, (hint-hint). Oh, and about that missing shrimp. I keep all my receipts to help in my review’s, since the menus change frequently. Yep, and a pricey $38 at that. This visit to Fish Hopper had some hits & misses. Mahalo.

From the hostess to the bartender and our waitress we had excellent service. Be sure to make reservations at this open air restaurant for dinner, it’s a popular restaurant in Kona. We enjoyed a seafood extravaganza that arrived in a wooden boat. Lobster, shrimp, crab, scallops, white fish and tuna along with rice and broccoli presented in a large wooden boat. We were told that this dish can feed 4 but we have a seafood loving teen who can eat plenty so this dinner served us well with no room for desserts.

When went in for happy hour, we were specific to the hostess about our quest, but yet we did not receive a happy hour menu, just 3 other types of menus. After waiting to be served for close to 10 minutes, a server/bartender finally came to our table so we were able to ask him about their happy hour advertisement. He apologized and brought us a happy hour menu and we were able to make our selections. The poke nachos were delicious but there definitely could have been more chips. Surprisingly, there was plenty of the tuna, but the overall serving size was on the small size for $20.

Fish Hopper Seafood and Steaks serves nice fish and steak, however, the kitchen's attention to detail needs to be improved. There were 6 in our party and 2 had steak. One of the steaks was ordered medium rare and came out well done. The other was ordered very well done with no pink at all and came out with a great deal of pink. The server returned the steaks and came back with perfectly done returned steaks, however, that is not what should have happened in the first place. Otherwise the dinner was fine and the food tasted great.

We ate at the Fish Hopper several times during our stay, and every time the food and service was fantastic. The calamari appetizer was so good - light and perfectly done, not rubbery like you get sometimes - that we ordered it every time. And the fish and chips were excellent - again, not greasy, just crispy batter. We had different servers each visit, and all of them were friendly, informative, and attentive without being intrusive. Plus, that view!!! Definitely worth a visit.

We had dinner reservations here, and alter a 15 minute wait, were finally seated. Our ceviche was basically bagged baby shrimp and chopped tomatoes. It’s not a difficult dish to make, but obviously they need to find a better recipe or omit it from their menu. Our fish was all overcooked. The best part of the meal was our waitress, who though apologetic about the poor food, wasn’t able to cut us a break. We never returned.

Terrible service. We waited 30 min to even place our order then waited 45 min to get our food. We only ordered clam chowder. The chowder was cold. Before we tasted the soup We were told they were out of crackers so we asked for rolls. He said he would be right back but never saw him again. 30 min later another guy came with the bill. Also it was so noisy we could not hear our selves talk. We live here and we will never return or recomend fish hoppers.

We've been to the Fish Hopper for breakfast every year that we've come to the Big Island (5 years). It used to be great but I have not been happy the past 3 times. The meat portions have become smaller to the point of being laughable. I always get the 2 eggs any style because I loved the grilled potatoes. This time the potatoes were not even seasoned and there were no onions or peppers with it like in previous years. We asked for coconut syrup for our pancakes (one of the main reasons we keep coming back here) and they said they were out. When we all voiced our disappointment they suddenly found some. I thought this was a little strange. Anyway, we love it for the fact that we can get a table right on the ocean but we may have to find a new favorite breakfast place.
