HiCo is one of our favorite stops every time we visit the Big Island. We usually stop right after our flight and pick up a bag of ground beans for the hotel during the week. We haven't tried one we didn't like... the Ka'U was our favorite of the two this week. The Ube latte is always a favorite, too. Be sure to check out their monthly specials and give them a try - we have not found one we didn't like. The clientele is eclectic and staff is great! The venue is always clean and staff is hustling. Food always looks delicious!

What a cool vibe in this place! We enjoyed the ube matcha , iced tea, iced matcha. They have a wonderful variety of toasts and we had the procuitto fig toast that was delicious. My husband had the wrap and we finished with some chia pudding! Highly recommend you try this cool coffee spot! Great ending to our day at the cloud forest sanctuary which I also highly recommend.

Excellent coffee! Friendly staff. The vegan masubi I loved! Chia pudding is delish. The avo toast was good though I tend to prefer multigrain bread. Have already been there twice and will go back!

Everything here is 5 stars. Aesthetics, drinks, food and service. My friends and I ordered the banana donut, Ube lattes, loaded musubis, Ube coconut donuts. Wow everything was delicious. A must go if you love coffee. This place was packed when I went early in the morning. Noise level it gets load as the tables start to fill up. If you’re looking for a quiet place HiCO may not be it. Parking is easy to find with street and parking in the back. Theres a nice variety of snacks and drinks to choose from. Prices are a bit high.

You hear it here, folks! This is by far and away the best coffee on the entire Big Island of Hawaii. We went back three times which is unheard of on my trips because I love trying out new shops every day. The Ube sweet cream cold brew was to die for. Don't miss this place!

The Ube cold brew was delicious. They make it there. It's not a fake syrup. They have a drive thru and the service was great .

Grab a coconut malasada and an avocado toast to go with your ube latte. Perfect for a pre-flight meal especially before a delayed flight. The staff could not be friendlier!

HICO Coffee in Kona is a must-visit for any coffee enthusiast! This Hawaiian coffee haven offers an impressive array of expertly crafted drinks that will delight your taste buds. From classic lattes to innovative fusion creations like matcha ube and coffee latte, the menu is a coffee lover's dream come true!
My personal favorite is the ube latte coffee, and it's clear that I'm not the only one - it's a popular order among customers! The rich, smooth flavor of the coffee pairs perfectly with the subtle sweetness of the ube, creating a truly unique and delicious experience.
While the prices may be a bit premium, ranging from $6 to $8 per drink, the quality of the coffee and the expertise that goes into each cup make it well worth the investment. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or just looking for a special treat, HICO Coffee is a must-visit destination in Kona.
Highlights:
- Innovative and delicious coffee creations
- High-quality, locally-sourced coffee beans
- Expertly crafted drinks with attention to detail
- Friendly and knowledgeable baristas
- Cozy and inviting atmosphere

We just HAPPENED upon this place thanks to their sign that advertised an Ube Latte. We had to wait 45 minutes for our table at Umeke's, so it was worth it! It was so good and we LOVED the vibe of the place that we went back later on in the week! The first time we went there they had a DJ. Their menu includes superfood coffees, classic espresso drinks, cold brews, teas, and cocktails. Their food menu has musubi (spam, vegan and crab),
WHAT WE ORDERED/RECOMMEND: Ube Latte and Mermaid’s Milk (coconut rum, Bailey’s, Mac nut syrup and salted caramel), avocado toast and paninis
WHAT WE DIDN’T GET TO ORDER: Macnut Toffee Latte, Mango Basil Refresher and Matcha
MENU ITEMS INCLUDE: Superfood Lattes, Kombucha, Teas, Cocktails, Avo Toast, Musubis (spicy crab, loaded and vegan), Paninis (turkey cheese, turkey pesto, vegan and more)
As with many things in Hawaii, the shop is small with maybe 5-6 tables inside and 6 tables or so outside. Restrooms are located outside of the shop in between the chicken place and Umeke’s.
Their second location is open too in Kealakekua on Hawai'i Belt Road!

Visited the Big Island this summer and HiCo was near the top of our list of places to visit. Super bougie in the best of ways, the vibe was modern and eats tummy. During our 10-day stay, we visited far too many times, if that is possible. The staff was always friendly, the ube lattes were consistent (And no, we tried no other drinks), and the food was excellent.
Get there early if you want a seat as both outdoor and indoor seating was often full. I ended up working there a bit as well and the wifi is solid.
GENERAL NOTE TO DEMANDING TOURISTS: If you are going to be impatient, please go to the beach until you can breathe a bit or go somewhere less local. Do us all a favor, and keep the snide comments and complaints to yourself 'cause locals have enough crappy environmental and cultural tourist impact to deal with as it is. Staff at so many places are overworked and struggling, so the last thing they need are ugly tourists being, well, ugly.
