My husband and I went to a pizza place that was very near to this and afterward we wanted dessert. We had notice the gelato place and thought it would be perfect. When we walked by before dinner it looked empty. When we came back it was full of people and several more were sitting outside eating. The line moved pretty efficiently. I really appreciated that you can get an extra small size, That's perfect when you're really not hungry but want a little something sweet. You can choose two flavors even for that small of a treat. And there were three larger sizes. They also had some sorbet flavors available and maybe something else. Very tasty.

We go purchase gelato from Gypsea Gelato at least monthly! I usually have my brother in law pick it up and bring to us for dessert. It is DELICIOUS! We haven’t had a flavor we don’t like yet and we have followed than from their previous location to the new location as well as the one downtown Kona. Treat yourself you won’t be disappointed.

We were so glad that gypsea gelato opened a location closer to downtown Kona! They had some really fun flavors: Kona coffee (of course), passion fruit, skittles, and more typical ones. Unfortunately, they aren’t able to do samples during covid times, but the servers tried to give good descriptions instead. We’d be happy to go back again!

We went to both locations and everything was delicious. I always go for the “ stranger” flavors and it all was yummy. I tried the Tom kha ( think thai curry), Moroccan spice ( think chai), raspberry chocolate and a chocolate tahini sea salt (called hocus pocus). My husband loved the salted caramel so much that he got it twice. I also tried the haystack which was delicious and my niece loved the pumpkin spice. Friendly service. They allow one party in at a time with masks, so be patient, it’s totally worth it! The downtown location is in a shopping center with lots of other places to dine and shop. The other location, more south of town, is cute and has great outdoor seating.

A popular gelato shop and probably the best you’ll find in the BI, Gypsea Gelato is a wonderful alternative to shave ice if looking for a frozen treat to beat the heat. Flavors like Tom Kha and Lilikoi were stand outs for me as each of them tasted true and exactly like what they should be, plus the texture was right on the money. I highly recommend.
On a low note, and the reason for my 3 stars, service here was rude and awful. The lady in charge refused to separate one of the flavors on a different container after explaining how my daughter was allergic to pistachios. She said we’d have to pay double if we wanted it done that way. How unreasonably unaccommodating.

This is on my list of 1000 best things to eat before you die. Located in a wonderful little shop that is a bit hard to find, but absolutely worth the hunt. Gypsea has locally sourced gelato flavors made in the islands. I doubt if you can go wrong with any choice, but we had Lilikoi, Kona Coffee and Mauka Trail. All were exceptional and superior to all but one or two of the gelatos we've had in Italy!

We enjoyed the ice cream however felt like it was a bit overpriced, however it is Hawaii. The selection was not as wide variety as we saw on other reviews online however still found a tasty treat. Great service and a very personable young man working.

Ever since visiting Italy we are often disappointed in the gelato we find in the United States. Gypsea does it right - rich and creamy with perfect texture. They set themselves apart with lots of flavors unique to Hawaii.

We were in the area for some antiques (lots of options) and needed to feed the sweet tooth. This place did not disappoint. Two flavors provided with very generous portion sizes. Price was fair and it tasted great! The ladies behind the counter were really friendly too. Though we skipped it, they had lots of coffee options as well as some limited bakery items. Definitely worth the stop.

We went here on a food tour ( which I also recommend.) I've not been a fan of gelato in the past, often finding it fairly tasteless. I like the fruit flavors and generally there hasn't been much fruit used. The lilikoi gelato here was unbelievable - so fresh and fruity. Hubby loved the dark chocolate chip- which he said truly lived up to it's name. Can't wait to go back.

Got the TOM KHA (ginger, lemongrass, coconut, turmeric), we all voted it the best flavor. Also got the LILIKOI (passion fruit), JUST CHOCOLATE.
Very smooth and creamy gelato, perfect for a hot day. Wish we came back to try other flavors. Oh well, next time!

I’m a sucker for frozen treats, and this place came through big time. Scandinavian shave ice is really good too, so it came down to which purveyor we ran into first, and this place won.
The Mauka Trail flavor was fantastic, as was the Toasted Coconut Haystack. Super creamy, and melted more slowly than I expected.
Pricey and worth it.
Go here when you feel the need for high “ice cream.”

Oh my! What can I say! We stopped in here for an afternoon snack. You get two flavors. I chose the medium size (which was a generous amount of goodness!) with the two most popular flavors according to the server: Mauka Trail and Toasted Coconut Haystack. Hands down the Toasted Coconut Haystack was my favorite with it's coconut cream base and chocolate covered coconut flakes. The Mauka Trail was good, but wasn't that unusual. My partner ordered the Mauka Trail and the 100% Kona Coffee. He liked both of them but thought the Kona Coffee was better. I don't think you can really order a bad one. The server was helpful, and there is a nice seating area outside to enjoy the treat.

Gelato was fine but the atmosphere was horrible due to the loud rap music blasted from a large speaker. We asked the girl server to turn it down with no response. We’re all for a pleasant work place but when it comes down to offensive conditions unpleasant for customers, the line should be drawn. We would have left but for promises made to one of the people in our group. Even so, we had to eat in the parking lot. If the same conditions exist in the future, we will leave and never return. Ironically, the server suggested we leave a tip. It’s a desert place not a banger bar.

Perhaps I've been spoiled with gelato from Italians, but I must say we all agreed this was much more like ice cream. If you go expecting the amazing gelato experience where the flavors are intense and the texture is super smooth you will be disappointed. I kept having to change my expectations to ice cream to be able to enjoy my order. Even then, it was just ok
