When filling a routine medication at a nearby pharmacy, we noticed this restaurant and researched it a bit and went to it for dinner that night. Great find! It is a little bigger than it first seemed from the outside. Nicely spaced variety of booths and tables. Perfectly comfortable but it is Hawaii of course.
We did make reservations online and it did seem to be appreciated when we arrived a couple minutes before they open for dinner service. They are open for a happy hour before this. We were given our choice of seating and our server, a very pleasant young women took great care of us.
After being tempted by several menu items, we realized we had happened to be there on their Wednesday special night of half off bottles of wine with the purchase of two entrees. So we took advantage of it. i ended up ordering the pork chop with mashed potatoes and mushrooms and gravy. I almost never order something like this but it was excellent and a welcome comfort food for me. My wife also enjoyed her surf and turf. We took home our cheese cake and enjoyed that as well.
Overall, the place fit our tastes just right. Comfortable but well done and a good value for Hawaii.

We tried to have dinner here for Valentine’s Day but could only get a reservation for 1pm they are very busy. Started with them handing roses to all the ladies. I had the Mahi Mahi sandwich which was the catch of the day and it was perfect. Very juicy and flavored nicely so you could still taste the fish. My wife had the Kalua pork Cubano which was fantastic. We ended with the Lilikoi cheesecake which was fantastic. The service was wonderful. This is great place that we’ll come to again

We have been awaiting the re-opening of this restaurant and
made reservations for 4:30 pm on the first day they were back.
My wife ordered the strip steak (her favorite) and I got the fresh fish special.
The restaurant had let us know in advance about the new 18% surcharge which replaced the normal tipping and we were more than okay with that.
It was great to be back in the restaurant. Long live Jackie Rey's!

I made an online reservation. When I arrived at Jackie Reys Kona, my reservation was not on the list. I was somewhat agitated as I had driven nearly an hour to get there. I explained to the host that I was meeting a new special date that I was hoping to impress, and this was turning into a disaster. The place was very crowded. He apologized and said that a wedding party was taking up 25% of the tables and he had a full list of reservations. Just then, two seats became available at the bar. He invited me to sit there to await my date's arrival and he would try his best to find us a table. When she arrived, the host immediately showed up with two complimentary glasses of champagne. Wow! Unexpected, but what a classy way to put us both at ease. As we sat chatting and sipping our drinks, it became obvious that we would not be getting a table for a while. Our amazing host appeared again, informing us that it may be a long wait and offered us a complimentary appetizer if we did not mind dining at the bar. My date said she was perfectly fine with that. We both ordered and had an absolutely delightful meal. With all the noise and confusion, I did not get the host’s name, but hats off to him. He really made the night special and helped to charm a woman who is not easy to impress.

We made reservations on line and mistakenly booked at the Hilo location. When we arrived at the Kailua restaurant they honored our reservations and seated us despite our mistake. The service was great the and staff was friendly and professional. We both ordered the Ahi Tower and it was amazing. The calamari was my second course and it was perfectly cooked and my husband's Mahi Mahi was flaky and moist. Good wne and dessert choices as well. This was a great experience and we will be back for sure during our stay. A+++

Aloha Katja L. -- Good to hear that we were able to fix the Hilo booking into a positive Kona experience. You certainly aren't the first person to book "the other side" by accident--! Thanks for taking the time to give us some specific feedback regarding the Ahi Tower, the Calamarai and Mahi. Feedback keeps us on our toes in hopes of always getting better.
Hope you do join us again during your hoiday.
Cheers---Paul, the owner

The service is always great; staff is very friendly and efficient and we got our food and drinks quickly. We LOVE your Mai Tai's and always order some when we eat there. The fish was fresh and delicious and even the presentation on the plate was very appealing! We LOVE eating at both Jackie Rey's restaurants on the Big Island! We highly recommend this restaurant (both the Kona and Hilo locations) to folks vacationing in the area and also residents!

Jackie Rey's is now one of my favorite restaurants in Kailua Kona! Every item we ordered was perfectly prepared and delicious! We like this place so much that we brought two families to join us and all of meals came at the same time and all were pleased with their dishes. They handled our large group without any problems and each order was exactly as asked. A highly recommended restaurant!

We ate on Thursday, Jan. 24. Party of 6, with a 7 PM reservation, but not seated until after 7:30. Our server was slow with drinks, coming by to offer excuses and promises that they would be soon forthcoming now and then. Same experience with apps and entree orders, which also arrived between lukewarm and warm, but not hot. The bill was split three ways equally, but somehow each credit card was charged a second time for a significant amount which, totaled up to the amount of the original bill. 2 weeks later, as I type, Jackie Rey's has offered no explanation for the overcharge on our card, which is still sitting on our bill as a pending charge. Overall, would not recommend.

Aloha Chris Proctor—- we keep explaining and apologizing to you regarding this pending charge but again —- you were only charged once. Your credit card company has your $94 on a hold that only they can drop. We called you and we emailed you numerous times .Even your fellow diners had the held funds drop. I certainly don’t need the aggravation either.
You own a business yourself. You sell Your music. You’ve never had a delivery issue with UPS OR Fed Ex?? You’ve never had a credit card issue with a processor that left you befuddled because a customer was unhappy??? We have tried everything to get your hold dropped and it will be dropped , But again—- you are not being charged twice.
My whole crew is so over this situation that we are sending you back the entire amount you did pay for your dinner, $131 and let’s call it a day.
Take care.

This place has it all: very, very good food; great service; good ambiance; great value. This was our second visit for dinner. We shared a caesar salad starter (yummy), then my wife had surf & turf (steak, shrimp and fries) -- excellent flavour and cooked to perfection. I had the scallops. Wow, really, really good. We also shared a chocolate desert which was great. We'd go back to this restaurant in a heartbeat. Sooo good!

We have loved this place for years, but tonight we received exceptionally poor service that cast a shadow on the delicious food. The server was obviously exhausted and was irritated if we had questions or showed any sign of indecisiveness. We were celebrating our son’s engagement and there was little acknowledgement of this high moment and the fact we chose this restaurant among MANY other options on the island. In addition, we ordered the Special Ono dish and it came very dry. They were kind enough to prepare a new dish, but everyone had finished eating by then. We made a mistake in choosing Jackie Ray’s as our investment of time and money and a most special celebration . Sad.

Lots of raving reviews for this one so I thought sure let’s have a nice dinner here on our last night in BI. Even though reservations were made in advance, there was still a wait for our table to be ready. The host was nice and apologetic so we let it slide and patiently waited while reading the many accolades they have on display.
We finally got seated by the window, best table of the house per our host. Then the slowness continued mainly from our server taking our drink order and then another long gap after having our drinks served to placing our food order.
I decided to get a mocktail after having read what the Lilikoi Fauxjito was. Pretty much a passionfruit mojito with no alcohol - sweet, tarty and refreshing - fab! They also had a delicious local IPA milkshake from Ola Brew on draft for you beer lovers out there.
As for food, get their rosemary bread to start with. My girls ordered the Chicken and Shrimp Pasta which they liked but I found heavy on the seasoning. My Mochiko Crusted Fresh Catch was a butter fish and it was sensational. Not a fan of the Molokai sweet potato and only because it was overpoweringly sweet for a savory meal. Garlic mashed potatoes or jasmine rice would’ve been a better pair for it
IMO. Their Grilled Pork Chop on the other hand was very tasty but they messed up big time and had this served when everyone else on the table was done with their main courses. To add insult to injury, it was cold and raw inside.
I felt bad for the server who kept apologizing. Management fixed it and comp’d the bread, pork chop, and dessert for our party. Lilikoi Cheesecake was great. I appreciated the gesture but our experience here was just not the best considering all the hype.

Wasn’t exceptional and wasn’t terrible. The Kailua pork egg rolls were great ( but very small
Portion). Next we settled on the surf and turf. It was all average. 2 shrimps and a small sirloin for $30 seems excessive. The steak was ok ( we are from Montana where beef 🥩 is exceptional) Fine service - junky bathrooms. Nothing to write home about.

We’ve had many a wonderful lunch there for at least 10 years. My husband always enjoys the daily special and I like the daily fish special. My food presentation has always been over the top and I’ve been taking pictures for years. The service is excellent and the food delicious. The fish is just right and the vegetables are sooo good.

We have always enjoyed their food and their menu. Even more so since the pandemic.
They are one of only a few places in Kona that we really feel safe in going out to eat at. Jackie Rays really has stepped up for keeping their customers safe – Bravo to them!
We just wish they were open for lunch, at least a few days a week.

We recently spent 3 weeks on Hawaii Island and visited Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill 3 times for dinner. The service was always wonderful. The food on the menu was very good, but I personally would have appreciated a few more menu choices. I enjoyed the shrimp with angel hair pasta & veggies. A few more veggies would have made the dish special. My husband liked the ribs and the risotto. It would be nice to have bread served with dinner. The only choice was to pay for bread that was offered as an appetizer.
The ambiance in the restaurant was really nice with the large open windows and warm breezes.
