Rene and Maryanne are full of energy and busy bees! The coffee was excellent, I ordered the Vienna with cream as well as the Irish Coffee afterwards. My sister ordered Belgium Waffles and she commented that it was very filling. The atmosphere and decor are beautiful and your eyes wander throughout the room. Rene and Maryanne welcome you with warm hearts and I can recommend them to anyone who stays/pass through the area. bedankt voor je voortreffelijk dienstbaarheid

Wow what an amazing experience. We were pleasantly surprised by the hospitable reception. The owners Rene and Mary ann took pride in personally preparing our delicious meals for us. The atmosphere is cosy and they made us feel like family. A definite must when you are in the Yzerfontein area. This experience will not be soon forgotten. Bitterballen, Sole, Butter fish and Rib Eye all done beautifully finished off with Desert which was Apple strudel.

After years of searching for Dutch Krokette like they make them in Holland, I found them in Yzerfontein at Café Rene! And not only that, the menu is extremely versatile with anything you can think of. Amazing coffee as well! The owner Rene will make you feel as part of his family. Lovely atmosphere. A must visit when you are in or around the West Coast!

From the minute we arrived there for lunch on a Saturday the owner complained that we were 20 minutes late for a 1:00 reservation and said that they like to go home at 2:00 PM so we must order immediately. Meanwhile even their own Facebook page says they are open from 9:00AM to 10:00PM every day except Thursdays. He then proceeded to keep shouting at us across the restaurant that we arrived 20 minutes late (sorry, we are not in the military, we were there on holiday), and this annoyed us so much that we started shouting back. We go to lunches for the ambiance and a nice relaxing experience without rushing, which is just as important as the food. We don't like to order straight away like a fast food restaurant. Because he was so rude things just got worse and worse with the owners wife shouting at my wife and putting her face right at my wife's face with no mask on. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty except for 2 people, meanwhile the restaurant next door was packed to capacity. We should have taken the hint. The food was very expensive and just mediocre. The sole tasted very sour and the tartar sauce was just a mayo with huge chunks of onion in it and whole, large capers not even chopped - it seemed that they just rushed to get the meal out so they could go home. We've had better food at fast food restaurants. We have been to many restaurants in many countries and have never before had an experience like this, with the owners themselves treating us so terribly.

Congratulations, Michael, you now form part of the four guests in more than two decades that gave us a terrible review. Luckily we know our worth and know reviews like yours are subjective. Your info for our Facebook page is incorrect. Please check. The past Saturday was the hottest day recorded in Yzerfontein. Off course we wanted to go home as we were very busy earlier in the day and it was nearly closing time. You were 20 minutes late and didn't have the decency to apologize. There follows my complaints - no apologies for being late, calling our establishment a mausoleum, your female companion indicating with her fingers and telling me to get back to the kitchen, calling me a f%$#$$ bitch, calling me a liar, shouting at us. In fact it got so bad that, for the first time since our business opened, I had to call Armed Response to try and control you and see to it that we were unharmed, you refusing to pay your bill, having the audacity, after the bill was eventually paid after three faulty attempts, to say you'll will stay as long as you like to finish your wine. I guess I said all I think is necessary. I hope you and prospective guests, get the real picture of what occurred that day.

The owners Renee and Mary-Anne are charming and brimming with joie de vivre. They had lovingly restored and added on to the cottage and on display were their treasured objet d’art, collected over the years. Renee is originally from the Netherlands and many items featured on the menu have a Dutch flavour like the Bitterballen a favourite starter which I opted for. Butch always game tried the Venison carpaccio, which looked delectable, a good colour, and air cured I thought. I enjoyed my Bitterballen, golden, crispy deliciousness, transporting me back to my short visit to the Netherlands a few years ago and in particular I thought the Mustard sauce really authentic. We were spending the weekend at the seaside so Butch immediately fell for the Catch of the day, being an adventurous diner he opted for the fish (unknown to him). He was very disappointed, although assured it was not, still believes it might have been Kingklip (a mistaken identity maybe). My main course, a Rib Eye steak was disappointing as I prefer a thicker cut and not a “schnitzel” sized portion, thin and slightly overcooked. The side dishes were unremarkable. My pancake for dessert was good and Butch thought the Almond tart so-so. We really enjoyed the ambience, Renee is a raconteur with many delightful stories and Mary-Anne his wife kind and generous. I suppose one must compare apples with apples so all things considered we were not dining in the city or Paternoster (heaven for foodies). I will recommend the restaurant if you’re looking for a relaxed evening in a small, quaint location, or if it’s mom’s night off and you’re in Yzerfontein. Do make a reservation.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review of your dining experience at Kaijaiki. We appreciate your kind words and compliments. As for the Rib Eye, we will take the matter up with the butcher. I'm uncertain how to react to Butch's reaction of the fish as it is a firm favourite with guests, abroad and locally. However, we respect his opinion. May many future guests seek a small, quaint location. And may many spouses decide to spoil their wives. :-)

We had a delicious meal (dinner) here. We both had fish - I had the oven roasted salmon and my mother had the sole. Well-cooked with yummy sides. The owner was very interesting telling us all sorts of stories. He also gave us a taster of his pancakes. I would go back for those!

We visited Kaijaiki for one night and what an amazing experience! Extremely nice people Rene and Mary ann. They make you feel so welcome and as if you're part of the family. The Bitter ballen were an amazing starter and the mains were an explosion of flavour in our mouths. We will definitely be visiting again soon. Such great people and awesome service.

The accommodation and restaurant were very good and everybody was so friendly! Kaijaiki is located near to Sixteen Mile Beach. Although their restaurant isn't open in the evenings it is very close to Yzer Bru a superb microbrewery which serves great food.

We very much enjoyed staying in the beautiful Kaijaiki Inn in Yzerfontein. The rooms are very comfortable. The host put our heaters on before we arrived, which we really appreciated. Lovely room, electric blankets, good couch with coffee and teas. The jug with lemon and mint was very refreshing. Good shower! The breakfast was excellent, the staff very friendly. The barista of the Inn’s coffee café made us very good coffee. My only regret was that we didn’t have enough time to enjoy the delectable cakes on display.

This is a really wonderful little restaurant that serves top notch quality Dutch food. I have Dutch heritage so it was amazing having such a nice restaurant in SA. It also has a nice atmosphere, having many old antiques that brighten the mood. Rene and Mary-Anne were both really friendly and it was really a blast listening to their stories. I would just recommend that you do book though as the restaurant can only take around 15 people and with such a nice restaurant that limit is quickly reached. This is must do if you ever want to visit Yzerfontein!

The host was so kind to open just for us on a public holiday. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy. The dining area was decorated with family heirlooms. The food was fantastic, real Dutch home cooking, and made with love.

Very warm welcome and loving care. Our accommodation Nr.3 was very clean, spacious and well equipped. Water pressure in the shower excellent. Breakfast was very good. Parking direct in front of the room. The wonderful long beach is reasonable in a few minutes and the way to a shopping centre too. We would definitely come here again!
