I absolutely realize just how lucky I was to be able to have dinner here, since the entire park only re-opened in September, and the government shut down has now been ongoing for a while. You can't see any lava, but you CAN see the...More
I have been to restaurants in other national parks, operated by concessionaires, and I always found them to be adequate, but not spectacular. The Rim was an exception. We were going to have dinner there, but we grossly underestimated the time we needed to drive...More
Sadly no view from the restaurant as the weather was rainy but the food made up for it.
Delicious menu and great service. Must have been amazing and scary when the volcano was erupting as you really are on the edge of the crater.
Made a reservation here after a day at the park. Weren’t sure what the food would be like and we were pleasantly surprised that it’s as good as anywhere in Hawaii! Great service and an awesome experience! We were there for sunset, which I would...More
We thought we were being smart and made reservations about an hour before sunset. They sat us at a beautiful table in front of the window and we were all blinded by the light. Literally! It was so bright and they don't have sun shades...More
Service & food was great. We wanted a special treat for christmas dinner and this was the place to have it while we were at Volcano National Park. All that was missing was the erupting volcano, but as we all know it stopped in October,...More
We had a lovey time, easy parking and an casual elegant atmosphere. The staff left us wanting for nothing. We sat looking out over the caldera and a night sky full of stars. I had Mahi Mahi paired with a lovey white wine, and a...More
Always a treat! And not to be missed if you're in the Park. Beautiful Park has been reopened and the restaurant is back with the same great crew and vistas of the new Halemaumau. Steaming away, the volcano lives and breaths and still amazes. Dinner...More
Twice visited, one breakfast, one Thanksgiving dinner. Both times I couldnt have asked for more: service was personalized and stellar, selections covered all bases with superb delight. Our breakfast at 8a was group of 5. Fresh custom prepared omelets, wide array of fruits, starches/pastry and even...More
I was so happy to see some familiar faces when I returned to Hawaii and went to eat at my favorite restaurant. although the "glow" is missing, the food and service at the Rim were wonderful. everything is fresh and delicious.

Yes, I would try to reach them when you are on island. They are a little hard to get a hold of. The time difference also may be an issue. I usually call during the Dinner hour to make a reservation. Which would be 10 PM ET - 2AM. So you can see it's difficult to call from the mainland to get a reservation with the time difference. Make sure you ask for a window table and make your reservation for after sunset as that way you get the best view of the glow. It is awesome. You will love it. The volcano has been very active, so you are coming at a good time. Aloha.
