I absolutely realize just how lucky I was to be able to have dinner here, since the entire park only re-opened in September, and the government shut down has now been ongoing for a while. You can't see any lava, but you CAN see the...More

I have been to restaurants in other national parks, operated by concessionaires, and I always found them to be adequate, but not spectacular. The Rim was an exception. We were going to have dinner there, but we grossly underestimated the time we needed to drive...More

Sadly no view from the restaurant as the weather was rainy but the food made up for it. Delicious menu and great service. Must have been amazing and scary when the volcano was erupting as you really are on the edge of the crater.

Always a treat! And not to be missed if you're in the Park. Beautiful Park has been reopened and the restaurant is back with the same great crew and vistas of the new Halemaumau. Steaming away, the volcano lives and breaths and still amazes. Dinner...More

Yes, I would try to reach them when you are on island. They are a little hard to get a hold of. The time difference also may be an issue. I usually call during the Dinner hour to make a reservation. Which would be 10 PM... More

Without the view, there is no point. Its an active volcano erupting while you eat, its not about cheap food.
