Hungry and attracted by a lineup of cars parked outside this unprepossessing spot, we stopped for coffee and a late breakfast. Our Eggs Benedict was exceptionally lemony and good as was the espresso coffees we enjoyed. When we returned two weeks later for lunch, we were unhappy to discover a lack of parking that required a one hour wait for a spot before we could even order lunch. Happily the huge delicious Reuben we split was worth the wait. From our window table we could look out over the jungle and fields below all the way to the ocean - a spectacular view.

The views are killer. Gorgeous sloping land covered with interesting vegetation.
The sandwiches come on home baked bread and they are pretty big too. I had a veggie and my wife had a ham and roast beef sandwich. Save room for dessert because those look excellent. We've two in take away cartons awaiting to be shared.
The service was friendly, very skillful, and very attentive. This is a great place to have a nice slow meal and savor all of it.

Cute little place with a nice view of the bay. You can see the bay from the deck. Good food but a bit pricey for what it is. Sandwiches come with potato chips as a side, soup is 4 or 6.50 and they do not offer it as a side option. The large soup is quite large though - if you wanted just a smaller portion I’d recommend the cup. Breakfast all looked good, sandwiches are good but expensive considering you only get a sandwich and a handful of potato chips for 15USD.

This is a very popular spot off the highway and parking is limited. We got a great spot to park since someone was leaving but had to wait about 10 minutes. Both my husband and I ordered breakfast and enjoyed our coffee and toast made from homemade bread. But my rice was cold; I should have ordered the potatoes which my husband did and liked. My friend had the pastrami sandwich and she said that it tasted as good as it looked. It was very big so she went home with a doggy bag. We stopped by another day for just coffee and dessert. We had the homemade Lilikoi Cheese Cake. It was so good and enough for two!

This place is open from dawn until dusk and is packed all day long. They serve hearty large breakfasts and remarkable house baked pies, cakes, and other desserts. It is a small funky roadside place that offers great food, remarkable service, and terrific coffee drinks and more. You can also get sandwiches, pizzas, salads and more. No reservations, so just stop and give your name to the host and wait outside admiring the 180 degree view of the fabulous coastline. Waits are short as they move people through quite quickly, but never rush you.

If you can find a better scenic view at any restaurant anywhere in this country please let me know! This rustic place sets on a hill side perhaps 2000 ft above sea level over looking beautiful Kealakekua Bay. People open jelly cups and place them on the railings for the geckos to get their sugar buzz.
Food here is always great. Love the home fries with onions and green peppers.
Open at this time for inside dining.

My wife and I stumbled on to this place. It was such a pleasant surprise. There was a line but we did not have to wait to long. A women working in the kitchen came out and sang for us a happy little tune. When they called our name to be seated they seated us on the patio with the most amazing view. We had these 3 geckos that were entertaining us before and during our meal. I ordered the special which was eggs Kalua pork pepperjack cheese and avacodo it was very tasty. My wife asked for French toast at first they said they were out so she ordered a cinnamon roll. But came back a couple of minutes later and told us the cook made some more batter for the French toast. She said the French toast was pretty good. The severs were all friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place.

We love this place. It sits right by the road with a vast unobstructed view of the ocean. They feed the gekkos so the cutest little green creatures are all around. Food is also fantastic. It's a do not miss when in the Kona area.

Stopped here based on recommendations from Fairmont staff K after a visit to the Peace Sanctuary Botanical Gardens nearby. Killer view from the open air dining terrace/patio, next to a beautiful 100 year old 4 story avocado tree. Fantastic sandwiches, salads, homemade pies and cakes, beer and wine. We actually ate from here 2 days in a row, as they also provide lunch for Kona Boys kayak and snorkel tours. Nice people. Due to global staffing issues, call ahead to check hours. Definately a new favorite of ours on the Big Island.

The wait was 30mintues, Parking is tight. But the wait is worth it. Awesome views. The staff is so friendly. We were a party of 4. They asked us if my two daugthers 8 and 6yr olds wanted a table of their own and a private order setting. They were super friendly with them to let them have their own table and server and order just like adults. They had their time of life enjoying their fresh cheese pizza with pineapple topping with a gorgeous view. I am not a coffee drinker but I enjoyed their morning kona coffee, which was not bitter and very smooth. We met the manager Jim as well, and everyone from the front desk to the chef in the kitchen and the server girls, everyone was friendly and brisk in service.

This is not the first time we picked up food from The Coffee Shack, but with such customer service next time I will look for other options near by.
My experience from today: I ordered 5 sandwiches to go. I asked cashier, blond young girl, she said her name was Kristen, how long it will take? She said: 20-30 mins, wait outside, I will call you. I did wait for 30 mins right outside the door, without shade with mid-day sun.
Next, I stood in line, as there is a note near the entrance to form one line even if you just have a question.
When I got in and asked Kristen to check on my order, she said: oh yes it was ready for long time and I called for you. When I said with irritation that I was right outside and did not hear it Kristen even did not apologize for inconvenience or confusion and just continued doing whatever she was doing.
All our sandwiches were cold, and in bag there were 2 napkins in total for 5 sandwich boxes. Food was OKish. We got 4 fish sandwiches and 1 grilled cheese. View from deck is nice, attaching photo.

We stopped for breakfast one morning on our way to snorkel and we were treated to amazing views at our table, great coffee and a delicious breakfast. Even though there was a waitlist, they took your cellphone number and texted you when your table was ready so we just waited outside to enjoy the view. The service was great as well. We enjoyed our food here so much we have stopped by to pick up coffee and pastries as we head out for our adventures in the area. We also took a snorkel tour with a local company that provided our lunch from The Coffee Shack...and the sandwiches and cookies were delicious. We are definitely fans!

The Coffee Shack is one of those places you must try. Had coffee and a scone here years before, and was pleasantly surprised. This visit, we stopped after a glorious mid-morning drive on the heritage road (180). We knew of the parking challenges, and scored a spot on the lower level. We put our name on the waitlist and were told 20-30 minutes. Enjoying the stunning views outside in the meantime, a cooling breeze tempered the usual tropic conditions.
I took a gander at the small gift area inside, it’s by the tempting case displays of the whole pies you can buy to take with you. FYI, their selection of decadent sweets is not to be missed. I must comment on how well Christen managed the chaos that typically forms in the cramped quarters. Inputting to a tablet for the dine-in queue, getting to go orders ready for pick up, cashiering, directing the busy kitchen, coordinating seating, dealing with cranky tourists. She was a total MVP that afternoon, all with a dazzling smile. Radiant, with her “Aloha” personality. As a retired manager in customer service for 37 years, IMHO, she is very deserving of these accolades.
Seated in the back room, it was less noisy, a breeze still constant. Aspen, our server, was a delight. We all ordered sandwiches; my friend the black forest ham & turkey, I had the chicken salad on their tasty homemade onion/dill bread. The couple travelling with us split the chicken salad, served with the chips and a pickle spear for each, how nice! Of course we had to indulge in their famous Lilikoi Cheesecake. Our friends shared a slice, and I had one all to myself. All agreed it is worthy of the title. Everything exceeded expectations. Food, service, value, ambiance, all home runs today.
HELPFUL TIPS:
• Parking is tricky, lower lot is tight. Do not block private drives.
• Scant street parking 60 yds. further to the south.
• You can call ahead to be put on waitlist for dine in. OK, next visit!
• Utilize their website for to go orders, or download the app. Do it!
• Let older folks, or those w/babies use the small bench at the door.
• Avoid spooking the little Geckos when taking a photo.
• Order something sweet! You can thank me later…
Mahalo.
