Stopped here for lunch on 03/24 while traveling along the west side of the island. After being seated on the covered outdoor dining area we were given the menus and we ordered 1-8” Mauna Veggie and 1-8” Local Boy along with a Dragon-fruit Margarita. The pizza was incredibly good. So good in fact we ordered extra pizzas to take to our cottage to eat for dinner. Prices for the small 8” were $13, the margaritas were on the high side at $15 each. But my wife said they were to die for. So good in fact she ordered seconds on the margarita. Service by Kaila was very friendly and rapid and the view from the balcony was excellent. Total with tax, before tip was $93.00. Only drawback is the tight parking lot which makes it a challenge to get into and out of. If you are near Captain Cook, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND stopping in for a bite to eat.

Inside and outside dining available. Waitress was fast friendly and had a sense of humor. We ordered a large make your own pizza - although not on the menu they did us a thin crust. We added the spice sauce base with mozzarella and toppings of pepperoni, salami, mushrooms, olives, jalapeños and garlic $30.50 It came well cooked but toppings were a bit light. Caesar salad $12 was fresh, the sauce was a bit synthetic, I would definitely say not home made. Mai tai $12 was great. Beer $7 okay

This pizza place was one of our favorite stops (three times)during our ten-day trip to the Big Island. It is located just two blocks from the the beginning of the hike down to Captain Cook’s Monument. The pizza is fresh, delicious and has a New York style to its preparation. I highly recommend the BBQ Chicken Pizza and the Pepperoni rolls. The service is excellent and is very affordable for a family meal in Hawaii. You can get it to go like many of the locals, but the patio that looks down on amazing view of Kealakekua Bay is worth the price of a visit, especially at Sunset. Put this on your list when you visit Kalea-Kona.

The view is amazing, but the pizza is the winner here, hearty and tasty. There are both traditional and creative options. The beer menu was amazing - it was here I learned about Ola Brew, a relatively new place with many creative, local flavors. We ordered the garlic butter breadsticks and they were as good as a dessert pastry. The default pizza crust has a wonderful garlic tone, and amazingly, tasted great when we reheated it the next day. We reheated it because we deliberately overordered, we wanted some to take home because the pizza looked so good, and it was. The waitress saw us struggling with a fly who wanted to join us on the pizza, so she gave us the takeaway box early just so we could protect the pizza in there. I never thought of that before, and it was a clever and much appreciated solution. Weirdly, I've looked at their online menu and don't see the pizza we were able to order. I don't remember the name. It had mozzarella, spinach, chicken, bacon and apple with a balsamic glaze. The place made for a perfect afternoon. Recommended for sure.

We were excited when Black Rock opened, to have a quality pizza shop on the area. We tried it once, shortly after they opened and were disappointed to the point we have not gone back there since. Someone gave me a Black Rock gift card and my wife was out of town, so I thought I would give them another try. Things were better, however many of the same failings were present. The pizza is very good, though a crispier, thinner crust would be a welcome option. I feel they put too many toppings on the pizza. I know that sounds odd, complaining about getting more, however too much of each topping makes for a somewhat soggy pizza which is hard to hold in the hand to eat. The largest issues were human failures. The pizza contained a large number of “bubbles” in the crust. I find them little more than un-topped dough spots, and in the case of mine the bubbles were charred and nearly burned. The bubbles also push the toppings around them, making already think amounts of toppings, thicker. I went there about 11:30am and ordered a pizza to go. They were not very busy, as they had just opened at 11:00. I ordered and then sat at the bar for it to be made. I watched as pizza after pizza was put into boxes and piled on racks for pick-up. Finally, the bartender realized no more pizzas were coming out and I did not have mine. She asked why I was still there and I shrugged. She checked the stack of pizza and found mine had been long out of the oven. How long I do not know, but since I was driving home to eat it, ten extra, ignored minutes of waiting did not make much difference. Tourism is back full strength on the island and a large portion of their business I am sure. However, locals I talk too are not very excited about their offerings and maybe eat there once or twice a year. Were the service better and the pizza offerings more selective, I would likely eat there once or twice per month.

After a fabulous day of snorkeling and hiking, with only a single serve bag of pretzels and other airline snacks, to say we were famished was an understatement. We both had a hankering for pizza. We called several places that were closed on Sunday. We called Black Rock, too, to get a voicemail telling people to order online. We had loads of problems with the site—not only theirs but another one, as well. We couldn’t find the one we wanted and we wanted to delete one of the items included. Needless to say, hangry didn’t quite describe us. Perhaps hangry plus is where we were. Remember that Snickers commercial? That was us. Hot, tired, dizzy, and with headaches. Two tech people couldn’t use a website? Really? Yes. Really. My bf had a moment of brilliance and realized we were driving right by Black Rock. We decided to stop. They told us it would be up to 45 minutes. I asked what they had that would be fast at this point, we would have eaten a paper napkin if she offered. We ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and a salad. The salad came out in what seemed like an eternity, but was really less than 10 minutes. We started scarfing it with the plastic utensils. The gal saw that I was using the spoon (but I didn’t care) and brought me another set. I appreciated this sweet act because they were busy busy busy. The homemade ranch was delicious. We licked the cup it came in. After the salad, we felt much better and like the snickers commercial, returned to our normal selves. We took the pizza home. It was delicious. The crust was thin and the edges the right balance of crispy and chewy. The toppings all blended so nicely that nothing overpowered anything else. I highly recommend this pizza. And the views from the back patio are fabulous.

This is the former Patz Pies. Re opened under new ownership in late 2020. It’s been remodeled and the Lanai is now covered. Had a specialty pizza and a salad for another guest. Both were excellent. Fresh local sourced produce and plenty of Ola Brew on tap. Service was quick and friendly.

Glad you came to check it out...100% NEW EVERYTHING. 10,000+ Pizzas sold in 3 months says a lot about how much people enjoy it! Don't miss out and we will see you next time! Appreciate the good word.

Black Rock Pizza offered a very tasty selection of pizzas. We could not quite decide and after asking the server for suggestions chose to halve the pizzas with two pizza choices off the menu. Best decision. Enjoyed our lunch with a very nice view and cool breeze.

We went on their soft opening, and even though it was ten times busier than they thought it would be, the service was great and the pizza was amazing. We went back a second time and both had sandwiches. I had the quesadilla and it was very good. My husband had the meatball sandwich, which he really enjoyed. We will be going back very soon!

Black Rock Pizza has been open for just a month or so. Tonight is my first visit and I deem this my favorite pizza on the Big Island. I ordered the Classic Combo and love it. It’s very fresh and real. Each topping ingredient is perfect in quality blends beautifully. I love the Italian sausage. Black Rock deserves all of five stars!

We stopped on our way driving down the coast from Waikoloa based on reviews. It was awesome!! Excellent pizza, the crust is the right mix of crispy outside, chewy inside, and we had the BBQ chicken and it was a great tangy sauce. Also, don’t forget the garlic bread - YUM! And the views are fantastic, service was warm and top notch. The waitress was very busy but still friendly and attentive.

Had a great relaxing time at this pizza restaurant! Great local brews and a great extensive list of specialty pizzas, it was hard to decide! Personal pizzas look small, but they're thick. Ended up getting 3 personal pizzas for two very hungry people and all were delicious. Check them out if you're in the area!

This is a very good, bordering on excellent pizza joint. I was hesitant when I saw pizzas delivered to the other tables, the crust seemed too Chicago style to me. Nevertheless, once delivered, I was hoping for more of the delicious crust! We created our own pie, though the menu offers up quite a few interesting home-grown creations. Decent draft beer selections, nice outdoor patio overlooking the ocean - this is a total winner. Just still wishing for thinner crust - more New York style.

Black rock pizza Rocks. Quick snd easy to Order to go. Ordered while we were at two step and picked it up on our way back to Kona. Win win! Good prices. Easy but steep parking on side street. The menu has creative options, but you can always create your own pie which we did.

We arrived and understood we had to wait. They didn't take a name despite us asking. They proceeded to seat other people around us until we repeatedly reminded them. Signs on the wall say they don't care about customer service with "Complaints taken second Tuesday next week" and something about not having any issues. Hardly the customer service I would expect with a highly rated place. We eventually were seated right by kitchen with noise so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. Hardly the views or atmosphere described. Breadsticks arrived well after rest of our food.
