We usually come to the Rising Sun for the well kept real ale. We recently discovered that it was one of the only pubs in our locality that opens on a Monday lunchtime and have visited several times for lunch. The choice of and quality...of the food has been excellent. Yesterday we had a friend with us who required a gluten, dairy and nut free meal. The lovely lady who looked after us at the bar was very helpful and consulted the chef about the options available. Amazingly a number of lovely dishes were available and our friend was blown away that she had so many options to choose from. The weather was good and we were able to dine out in the sunny garden.More
Ate one evining while staying in the area
This is a lovely quant village pub with a good ambiance(everybody both eating and drinking having a good time) Service and food were good I had the baby back ribs which were very good
There is no...car park so you need to find a place in the village to park but I found this just added to the country village pub experience
Looked forward to a nice meal out to end our holiday. The lack of ambience (no background music etc.) would have been okay except we had to spend the whole evening listening to the chef f’ing and blinding and the other senior staff slagging off...a previous customer to the junior staff in front of us. There was a complete lack of awareness of customers trying to enjoy their meals. We were particularly shocked as there was a child sitting on the table next door when the swearing was happening. To add to this, the food was rather disappointing, they had made a mistake with our booking and also made a mistake with our bill. I could see that the junior staff were trying their best which we appreciated, but we were struck by the lack of professionalism of the more senior staff.More
We stayed at The Rising Sun, for six nights, during a complicated and drawn out house move. We rented their two bedroom apartment, with its own private decked terrace. (Surrounded by a beautiful, old wisteria).
It was superb! And, just what we wanted and needed!
The...apartment, was very comfortable and quaint. The bedding and towels, were an excellent quality and the shower was also, very good. Really couldn’t fault it.
We didn’t really have the weather to sit out much, but the terrace is lovely, and can only imagine what it would be like, when the wisteria is in flower. (There is also a bbq, which we didn’t use).
We ate, in the pub, every night and have to comment on the high quality of the food served. We didn’t have one disappointing meal. (I’m also Coeliac, and strictly gluten free. They catered for me brilliantly).
Everyone who served us, either behind the bar, or in the restaurant, was really friendly and provided excellent service, across the board.
Thank you for looking after us so well!More

Went out for walk at lunchtime and came across the rising sun. Decided to have lunch. Food was faultless and excellent service. Nice old pub. Good value for money. Definitely recommend a visit if passing.
We had an outside table booked for our lunch and the staff were attentive and friendly. We had the Sunday roast and it was fabulous. Finished off with coconut and chocolate mousse with raspberry sorbet (incredible) and sticky toffee pudding, all washed down with the...local Nutbourne wine. What’s not to love about Sunday roasts when they are this good.More
We were hoping for a well presented, wholesome sandwich, made with fresh, good standard, tasty fillings, for a sensible price - and that's what we got! It was a bit of a wait but the staff and landlord were all very friendly and we will...definitely stop off again when travelling through.More
It took a beautiful date here for our second meeting for a Sunday roast today. The roast was fantastic but more so the staff here are lovely. They really went
above and beyond and made us both feel relaxed special and comfortable to get know...each other. Special thanks to the wonderful and friendly Glaswegian lady, we will be back for you to guess the date number next time xMore
