So we drove nearly an hour to get here as its a beautiful place and the food is lovely. It's such a shame that when we arrived, we went to the bar to order our drinks and ask about food and the gentleman behind the...bar who i presume is the landlord, was the most unfriendliest and unwelcoming man I've ever come across. He didn't smile once, his attitude with his responses were curt to the point of rude and made us feel like a nuisance. To be honest, the atmosphere only changed round about 3.00pm when two younger servers came on shift who actually smiled at the customers and interacted with them. I'd like to say I'd visit again, but to be honest, i probably won't. He really shouldn't be in hospitality with an attitude like his.More

Just got back from an overnight stay for my wife's birthday.. Had hoped to catch up with my old friend Andrew but sadly he was unavailable. I didn't need to worry as Tiff and the rest of the staff were absolutely brilliant. Great selection of...beers and wines. The food was excellent. Generous portions, especially the ham hock starter Superb rump steak burger for us both. Room was lovely and spacious. Loved the old fashioned beams. Only spoiler was the weather which meant we couldn't see as much of the Village and surrounds as we would have liked We are definitely returning in April and will make it a weekend and get some walking in . Thank you all and see you soonMore

Came here on the 2nd of Jan with my partner for a meal. We ordered the pie and fish and chips. When the meals came out, we were brought pie and sausage and mash. There was a mistake and the lady apologised for putting it...through wrong. I asked if the fish hadn't been started could I please change my order. The lady said that wouldn't be a problem and would check with the kitchen and let me know. A different lady came back and said they are just about to start doing my fish and chips. I asked for a different meal and she said that it wouldn't be possible as it was already put through. I explained that the previous lady said she would check and come back to me. In the end though I did manage to get my order changed and I got a really nice beef roast dinner. My partner said his pie was very nice, although it was dry and expected gravy. We overheard someone on the table behind us complaining about there not being any gravy with his pie. He asked the lady server and she said that it would cost extra if he wanted gravy. He said he wouldn't want to pay extra as it should have come with gravy anyway. We thought the same. After we finished our meals, we really wanted to order dessert. We sat and waited for about 30 minutes but no one came to our table to take our plates or ask if we wanted dessert. In the end my partner had to approach the lady server and ask her if we could please order pudding. The mains and desserts were really nice. When we went upto the till to pay, we were expecting a small discount or a free drink because of the mistake earlier. We were waiting a long time for our food. We didn't get anything as a good will gesture as previous pubs have offered due to similar occurances. Overall, we did have a nice evening but we felt like there was lack of communication between staff and there could have been a higher level of customer service.More

Well once again, Andrew and the crew surpass themselves and leave me feeling more relaxed after 1 night than a week in The Maldives!! It had been a while since we visited due to the obvious restrictions, and decided to ask the in-laws if they...wished to accompany us as it had been even longer for them. We arrived about lunch time and fortunately our rooms were ready so we dumped our bags and went downstairs for lunch. Some shared sandwiches and a small mussels were plenty to tide us over to dinner time as happily, the Specials Board which hadn’t been present on our last visit was back. A few pints of the splendid Boxer Beer to accompany them and a walk around the village to allow the hound to stretch his shirt but capable legs, a few beers in the Lower Buck and back over to the main attraction. Plenty of wine accompanied the 2 Cod mains we ordered, along with the duck and the slow cooked featherblade of beef with crispy cheeks for me (stop being smutty) A rarity today that we managed 3 courses as we had cheese boards to graze on last of all, before we climbed the apples and pears to bobos for a good nights sleep. A hearty breakfast was consumed the following morning which left us all full to the following evening. Hospitality has been hit hard and staff are a premium but this establishment seems to have kept some staff we’ve seen for years, who run around trying to please everybody, so please, if you do come and you’ve to wait a few minutes longer to be acknowledged or a few more minutes for your mains, just be patient, they really do try their best….More

Called in mid-week without a booking. Managed to get a lovely table next to a log fire. Food and service were both excellent. Best lamb hotpot I’ve ever had. Will definitely visit again.

Very disappointing Not a friendly reception from the man who appeared to be running this place. Cafe latte was more like black coffee. Prawn and crayfish sandwich had clearly been hurriedly defrosted and was terrible. Virtually no sauce on it and very Spartan on the...sandwich so very dry and more of a bread sandwich. Steak sandwich - why would you put a steak on a sandwich with the fatty grisly edge on the meat ? I’m sorry but just not a great experience.More

I was getting married in a venue not far from the Waddington Arms and booked a few rooms for key guests. The rooms were excellent, beds comfy and breakfast spot on. Even when I had to make amendments to meal bookings and room bookings that...I had for the weekend, Andrew and his team were more than accommodating. The best in the village even! If you want a hearty, tasty meal at a reasonable price then you just can't go wrong here. Thanks so much, it made for an even better weekend and will definitely return in the future!More
