Went with friends for dinner. First time in a long while which is a shame as it is so good. Food is just wonderful, restaurant light and airy. It is in the higher price range but you definitely get what you pay for and the...chef is extremely talented. It won’t be long before go back again.More

My Brother and our wives visited on a Saturday evening. We all eat out often and were in agreement that our meal was the best we've had in a long time. The starter of fagots was exceptional, as was the steak main course. Both Jayne...and Mike were extremely hospitable and for the quality the price was amazing value. We will visit again.More

We were recommended to this restuarant by some friends. The service we received was excellent, the restuarant decor is traditional and it has a good ambiance but the we all felt that it was too expensive for what was on offer. The food was very...good and had obviously been freshly prepared but the soft drinks and the main dishes were over-priced. We had no wine, 4 mains only and the bill came to nearly £110 which we all felt was too much. It's a shame because it is a good restaurant but probably about 30% more than we are willing to pay.More

Jayne and Mike put on a splendid evening for a group of 29 eager diners. The food was exceptional, and they dug deep into their cellar for some fascinating older wines that complimented well. Great service and a lovely atmosphere. We all stayed over and...found the rooms to be very comfortable and quiet. We will definitely go back to enjoy more of the excellent hospitality.More

Had Sunday lunch at this restaurant, and like a lots of reviews we found it very dated and tired looking. The food was lovely , but ......very expensive. Was it value for money ??...... no !!! i think the mains were at least £5-£8 over...priced. The lady that served us was lovely and chatty, so the service was good, but .....the young lad that collected our plates ,was not dressed in a manner that i would expect from a restaurant charging £25 plus for a Sunday roast. Im sure his shirt was clean, but it was not ironed , nor tucked into his trousers !!!....call me picky!!!! Would i go back , or recommend it to anyone ? No !!!!More

We value customers which love their food, it is lovely & good value unless you like appearances more than content. By the way the use of .... !!! is a bit crass & suspicious

We found the owner very friendly and had a nice chat with her. The food (aged beef as a main) was good although not at Michelin star level. Our main concern is that we found it too expensive for its quality: £29.50 just for a...steak and vegetables is a lot of money. We also thought that the restaurant itself could do with an update, it looks very 70s -80s, but that is a matter of taste of course. In sum, there was nothing wrong but we did not find it an exciting evening out either; perhaps also because it was virtually empty.More

The dry aged middle cut fillet is the best you can possibly buy & we are Michelin rated, not with a star, where the same dish would cost you considerably more.

we were attending an event at Beulieu and just wanted a place to rest. What a pleasant surprise and well worth it. The service was friendly and very attentive. The room was exceptionally clean and the food was superb. Great visit and we will return....Look no further and stay here if you want a base in the New Forest!!More

The venison was dynamite, pork was also tremendous, quaint little what feels like a pub out in the sticks, but is actually an awesome little restaurant, will be back, happy :)

My husband and I stayed at the Red Lion for his birthday weekend. Fantastic room with beautiful views and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in and free use of the hot tub. The restaurant was fantastic, not cheap but worth every penny. The...menu is on a caulk board so changed after each service. Would love to visit again.More

Booked into one of the rooms through an on-line site, including dinner & breakfast. Arrived at opening time & arranged for dinner at 7.30. Went for a drink at the bar at 7.00 to find this place only serves bottled beer with nothing on draft...& that I was the only customer. Ordered food was shown to the dining room and served inside 15 mins. Returned to my room at 8.15 at which point the place closed up, lights went off, doors were locked and the staff left. Breakfast was also a solo affair but my hostess was charming and engaging. Will definitely be returning hopefully when the places is a bit more lively.More
