The White Hart is our favourite place to eat whilst staying on a nearby caravan site. We booked for 10 people twice during our most recent trip (they do get busy). The staff are always accommodating to your needs, including dogs. We preordered which meant that food came very quickly. The staff are always helpful and friendly even when they are busy.
The food is always great but the Sunday roasts are particularly good and my son loves the curries. The pies are lovely too and there are decent vegetarian options.
There is a nice garden at the front and parking in the front and back of the pub.
We think the White Hart is fabulous and would recommend it to anyone who wants a lovely, reasonably priced meal.

Lovely pub with good atmosphere. Lovely friendly staff and good food. Also dog friendly! May be a bit pricey for some items (£8.00 for a few pieces of breaded Brie and small salad garnish as one example) but delicious!

Unfortunately I can't write a review about the Cottage in the grounds of this great pub as it doesn't have a listing. We have just returned from a week in the Cottage and I can not praise it enough. It has everything needed to make you comfortable and the owners run the adjoining Pub.
The pub is a gem in its self. It has good real ale and a superb menu. The staff are helpful and friendly and the service is second to none. We ate in the pub for 7 days, the menu was so varied that have a dish twice. The food was fresh, well cooked and always hot.
They do a great Sunday roast and Monday is £6 Curry Night, a real bargain.
Well done to Dan for running a good honest pub and the Cottage is great as well.

We went for a meal here with my granddaughter. She order panko chicken burger. When it came to the table it looked over cooked. My granddaughter took a bite and said didn't taste very nice and when she showed me the chicken burger was still raw. You could tell it had been deep fried but had not cooked through. Thank god she hadn't eaten anymore.
I will definitely not be going there again.
Also staff standing at the end of the bar vaping then not washing their hands and going straight to serve customers...not professional

Such a lovely evening, I only booked the evening before and they fitted us in at 6pm. Service throughout was friendly and efficient, we were well looked after by everyone, food was all homemade and catered for my mum in law who just wanted a small meal. Would highly recommend and puddings were pretty good too.

Was staying in battle and came here on the off chance they would have space for us as I do like a good country pub and they did. Lucky as it was Monday curry night. The barman was friendly and showed us what tables he had free only 2 so we picked the one closest to the real wood fire. It was lovely and warmed us up from the cold outside. I don’t normally like sitting by a real wood fire as you end up smelling of smoke but not this one the smoke was directed up the chimney not in to the room.
The barman came over and took our food order when the food arrived it was fresh and hot and tasting amazing. I ordered the hunters chicken. Compliments to the chef. This was one of the best hunters chickens I’d had. The only downside I was so full from my meal I had no room to try out deserts. Oh well I guess we will just have to pop by again when back in the area.

Had both lunch (Sunday roast) and dinner at this pub over Easter and the food and service was top class. We stay in the nearby caravan site a couple of times a year and are never let down by the quality (& portion sizes) of the White Hart and the friendly staff. Great atmosphere too. Can't wait to return once again!

The food we ordered was extremely disappointing. The roast beef dish was overcooked, unappetizing and was piled on the plate in a most unappealing fashion. The vegetables on the other ordered dishes was overcooked.
The point of eating out is to enjoy dishes that you cannot or do not wish to cook at home - in this case I wish we had.
This pub is inexplicably popular - I guess we all have differing standards.

My husband, our dog and I had been to visit the 1066 site and decided to get lunch in our way home. A search for dog friendly pubs nearby produced The White Hart. The menu online looked good so we headed down the road.
There’s a decent size car park and we had no issues parking.
Inside we were met with a warm welcome, a dog biscuit for Norma and seated in the bar area at a nice big table.
Once we’d settled the drinks orders were taken, they were delivered and the food order taken.
We each had a pie: chicken, ham and leek for me and steak and ale for my husband. The food was delivered and it was incredible. A generous slice of pie which was crammed full of the respective fillings. The steak melted in the mouth as did the chicken and ham. I had mash and my husband had sauté potatoes both with veg. There was a nice smothering of gravy on the food but it also came with an extra big jug of gravy - which was delicious.
We give six thumbs up:
one for being dog friendly
one for being fine with my nut allergy
three for the delicious food
one extra for the jug of gorgeous gravy
We’ll definitely be back!

We picked this pub for the reviews, ( wanted a Plough Man's Lunch) and it was on our way home from spending a couple of days near Battle.
My Wife particularly was looking forward to having a Plouhman's but we found it quite hard to find a pub nearby that was open, and that was doing Plouhman's.
We arrived just on midday and were greeted by a very pleasant young barmaid who took our drinks orders while we found a shady spot in the garden.
Having ordered one Cheese and one Ham Ploughman's we did not have to wait long before the biggest, and varied meals arrived.
A large amount of cheese, and 6 slices of home cooked ham together with pickled egg, pickled onions, onion chutney, coleshaw, brown pickle, mixed salad, gherkin and mixed dressing, with a warm baguette.
Extremely enjoyable, and we will come again.

Terrible service. Two hungry children and two older people in our party at noon on a Tuesday afternoon in the summer holidays. Barely any customers in the pub but we were told we couldn't order any food because two larger tables were coming in and you needed to book if you wanted food. There was absolutely nothing on the website to make that clear (in fact the website clearly says food served from noon) and no rationale explanation as to why a half empty pub couldn't serve food at lunchtime. I honestly can't understand what kind of business operates that way.

Fabulous, friendly, inviting pub. Best I’ve been to for years. Staff couldn’t do enough , great choice of gins and any other spirit that takes your fancy and food was excellent - would 100% recommend.

Today we had ten n our family Sunday roast party but disappointed this time as the beef being chewy and tough. Yorkshire puddings also overcooked.
The lamb 2 people had was good.
Bit sad as it was our grandaughters 16th birthday too. Mcdonalds

Excellent service from start to finish, really attentive, polite and positive staff.
Food was really fairly priced (£10.95 for a full roast) and was perfect.
The owner even took time to come around and visit our table to say hello.
All in all, a really lovely family pub.
