Have been here a few times now for lunch or coffee and cake and it’s an amazing place. Was part of a group booking today of 13 people for their high tea. Can thoroughly recommend it. The food was delicious and plentiful. Service was excellent. The table had been set beautifully for us, china crockery, water on the table, stands of savoury items came first and then the sweet items. Was totally delicious and I know that all of the group enjoyed theirs too. 10 out of 10 across the board.

This place is just wonderful - the staff are so warm, friendly and work so hard. Over the past years we have been coming here but it is now time for them all to have a rest and a change so they are closing on Sunday and a new chapter will begin with new owners, staff etc .
The present owners held a farewell and thank you event this week for all their customers to come to where they provided coffee and cakes for a donation to go to the charity MacMillan. They raised £900! This event demonstrates what super people they are.
You still have time to pop in before Sunday! They do great gluten free options and I’ll miss the gluten free tuna melt!
So thank you for consistently delicious food, warm service and friendship over the years. Enjoy your next chapters and good luck to the next owners.

Really friendly and helpful staff. With one of our party Vegan and another vegetarian, the staff were very helpful and informative on the phone when booking and while eating.
The food was also really tasty and lots of it. The breakfast were large as was the Mac and cheese.
Cosy atmosphere too.

Very disappointing. New owners as previously been and it was lovely food etc. Booked at 12.00 as going to theatre in eastbourne. 20 mins later no drinks or menus. Decided to leave and go elsewhere. Kitchen lady came out to car to try and persuade to stay and would cook anything we wanted that would be quick. We needed to have lunch so reluctantly stayed. We did get some food but not impressed. She tried her best. £32 later we left freezing cold and arrived at theatre with a few minutes to spare. Food was not worth money.
Issues included tea ordered but no milk provided had to ask, cutlery missing.
No avocado although on menu, I asked for no pepper in my salad and it had red peppers in it although lady said they dont use them!
Sorry to say wont be back which is a real shame but thank the kitchen lady for tried her best

Very disappointed. Have visited several times under previous ownership and never disappointed. This time food arrived lukewarm, we fancied a nice desert but all that was available was one item on specials board not to our liking. Decided to go for cake. Very disappointing £4.50 for a thin slice of dry banana bread that had no flavour at all. Listening to other diners it would seem several items on menu were not available.
Sadly dont think we will be visiting again.

We were really disappointed with our lunches. The coffee was also so weak it was awful.
Tuna melt was dripping with cheese which i guess some people might like but felt for us it was overpowering and the fish finger sandwich was just cheap fish fingers chucked in two slices of bread for £8.
Shame because weve had breakfast here before and its been lovely.

Dear Karen , we are so disappointed that you didn’t enjoy your recent visit to our cafe. We sell a lot of coffee and we have a set amount ground for each shot, I don’t think we have ever had a complaint about this before. Some people prefer a double shot ( which is always available) as everyone’s tastes are different. This is proven in your comment about our ‘cheap’ fish fingers, I can assure you we only buy birdseye fish fingers which are 5 times more expensive than the ‘cheap’ ones that are available for us to purchase. Our fish finger sandwiches come with salad, crisps and homemade tartare sauce. I’m sorry you felt there was too much cheese on the tuna melt but again this has always received high praise. I’m even more sorry that you didn’t feel like you could express your comments to us at the time of your visit as we would have happily rectified any changes you wanted to make.

12 of us went today for High tea . We were celebrating several Birthdays. They couldn’t do enough for us . The food was AMAZING !! a wonderful mix of sandwiches stuffed eggs sausage rolls ,Big pots of tea .lovely china plates cups and saucers . That was just for starters !! Then the sweet treats came out !! Scones two jams cream butter .Then a top tier of small fancy home made cakes .what we couldn’t eat we took home in goody boxes . The tea pots were refilled . There were bottles of water on the table with pretty table cloths and napkins .What more could you want ?
Thank you so much Hope Cottage for a lovely afternoon. I have been there before for lunch and I will definitely be back again .!!

I had the full breakfast, which was scrummy! My husband had the cheese and ham melt, which he thought was excellent and he thoroughly enjoyed it The young lads who were serving were so very polite and that was an added bonus.
It was our first visit, but definitely won’t be our last

This has been my fave breakfast spot for a long time and it was sad to see it sold but we wanted to support the new owners in their venture and went for breakfast today. Appreciate they have only just got started but there are a lot of improvements to be made. We were second to order and waited nearly an hour for our food which was luke warm when it arrived, toast turned up 10 minutes before the rest of the fry up. The couple next to us waited 1.5 hours for theirs. Coffee and tea were mediocre. Sadly this is not somewhere we will go back to, I hope it improves.

Firstly, as a well travelled foodie, the simplicity of finding a good breakfast is not as easy as you think. What we all look for is quality ingredients, value for money, and to enjoy where you are.
Hope has all of this and more. The food was delicious and perfectly served. The place had a wonderful, warm, and friendly feeling, which made you instantly comfortable. You don't get a second chance at a first impression, and Hopes' first impression is a definite revisit from me

Just a wonderful delicious Sunday roast - with 3 choices of meat ( we had turkey and beef) and vegetarian option. Served with stuffing, parsnips, roast potatoes , Yorkshire pudding, vegetables including cauliflower cheese and gravy and condiments!!! Just amazing and if you let them know they do gluten free gravy, stuffing, Yorkshire and cauliflower cheese too which was so tasty! Also other dishes on their menu. Sunday special Desserts change each week but there is always meringues, sundaes, I’ve cream , cake and much more. You really do need to book for a table on a Sunday. Family run by lovely people who work very hard. How they manage it from a quite small kitchen amazes us. Open every day. Recommend wholeheartedly.

After hearing all the wonderful reviews about this place also all the great comments here on TA we booked a table for lunch.
Staff are very efficient and friendly, the food is excellent quality with a great selection on the menu, which all are great value for the quality of the food which is freshly cooked to perfection.
The restaurant is dog friendly and quirky and completed by a lovely log burner.
We’ll certainly be back in the near future, quality establishments like this need to be supported and appreciated during these difficult times.

This is unique and quaint. Service excellent and warm welcome given.
It’s dog friendly for well behaved dogs too!
Vegetarian food available. Baked Goats cheese delicious.
You can buy excellent home made sausage rolls to take away or eat there.

This is absolutely the best little place in the area, Always fantastic! The lovey young staff are always really friendly, efficient and helpful in every way. The food they serve is fresh and delicious, and the cream tea! I cannot praise it enough! A choice of different types of scone, a selection of jams, all beautifully presented and served with a smile. Well done to this lovely place . A pleasure to visit.
