I visited here with my 2 boys on route back to our campsite nearby. We were greeted with a really warm welcome by the landlady and bar maid who informed us that yes children are allowed and yes dinner serving will start soon. Wahoo! We sat outside under the canopy which was lovely. There is a play area for children laid to grass for ball games and a small swing/climbing frame combo, although, this did appear to need a bit of tlc as some parts were loose or broken, hence the mark down to 4 instead of 5, although, this didn't stop it being used. The atmosphere of this pub was lovely, nice and relaxing and people coming in chatting and some with dogs (although we did catch one lady with her small dog walk out of the pub to the garden and had let it poo on the mat outside!) The food was delicious, couldn't fault it, however, this pub was a little on the expensive side compared to other pubs we have eaten in. All in all, we had a lovely visit, good food and walked away with happy, full belly's and smiles on our faces.

Where do I start, I have visited this pub on a number of occasions over the years but felt after a visit today I had to write a review. The Squirrel Inn team provide such a warm friendly atmosphere as you walk through the door and look out for you with a rope to prevent you falling down the step. If you are mobility impaired they also have a suitable route for you to gain access so have considered accessibility needs of their customers. The menu offering are good and the roast I had was the best I have had. One thing I liked about the menu too was the fact you could choice up-to 2 meats for the standard price (or just double up on one) but they offer the option if you like a variety of meats to pay a little more for 3 or all 4. They also use some ingredients grown on site and have a love garden which is a massive bonus, with a herbs section too which they use in their meals. Dessert menu had plenty of choices too. The staff were brilliant and really knew how to work together as a team and this was great to see. Teamwork to this level is something I have rarely seen so well displayed. We did speak to the owner who was also a friendly gentleman who I wish him and his team all the best for the future. Definitely one I will be returning to.

On our way to Bexhill on sea for a few days - wanted to stop for lunch - drove past this pub and saw a sign “you’ve just passed a great pub” - so we went back - staff were very helpful and efficient - although they were keen to take our order quickly but explained they wanted to serve us before another group of 14 !! - food very good indeed - there’s a small play area but a large grass garden with a goal - so my grandson was as happy as Larry and made friends in 2 minutes !! Very good indeed

Went on a Sunday lunchtime, pre-booked family of 5. Arrived & seated in plastic covered lean to, but no menus… after a while drinks orders were taken & menus arrived… drinks arrived fairly quickly, but long wait for orders to be taken… Roasts were average pub size servings, ham, egg & chips came with bread & butter, but the egg whites were undercooked and raw… plus child’s pizza, which for a child’s meal was a fairly large portion with chips included…. Raw eggs were definitely a turn off, and service fairly slow… but it was a Sunday and they were busy. Prices above average for the area & 10% surcharge added to the bill, which is noted at foot of the menu… Parking is horrendous when busy as cars park on the main road so visibility is poor to non-existent on trying to exit the carpark… I doubt I’ll be returning after being served half raw eggs and two hours in total…

The lady who served us was excellent and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The food however was dreadful, we were the only 2 eating in there and my order was wrong. I didn't want to make a fuss so I kept it but the chicken was so tough I couldn't even cut it up. It felt like a frozen chicken breast that was cooked quickly. The male bartender was rude and said i was just moaning because I'd ordered the wrong thing and we over heard that. Would thoroughly avoid. My partner's roast tasted frozen too. Terrible experience .

We had been told that the food was amazing at The Squirrel, you must go, we were told! The car park is always full when we drive past, so it seems popular place to eat. So for my Step Dad's birthday we decided to give it a go.....there were 5 of us, 4 had roast dinner and 1 had ham, egg and chips. The roast dinners were distinctly poor.... minimum amount of vegetables, what seemed like deep fried roast potatoes, a cold Yorkshire pudding and the meat....well my Mum couldn't actually eat hers, both the turkey and beef were tough and stringy, the rest of us had a go at cutting and chewing the meat. My Mum was offered a extra slice of meat to replace the meat she couldn't eat but she declined. All condiments had to be asked for, even the salt and pepper. 5 main meals, 1 desert, 9 drinks came to £135 but £13.50 was added to the bill for service charge, ( you service charge was added onto the total of the bill but you don't have to pay it ) As a rule I never complain BUT in this instance we were so looking forward to eating there and that the food was so poor that I feel compelled to write this review. I am sorry to say we won't be returning.

We had lunch here recently. We booked a table the day before, which is a good idea, as we were told of a large party arriving at 1 o'clock . The waiting staff were excellent as was the food.Judging from the standard of the food in general and the salad in particular, it appears that all the food is prepared to order. It's difficult to be objective when writing these ctritiques , but I would like to make a couple of comments about comments. First, it is made abundantly clear that there is a 10% discretionary addition for service. This was reinforced when we received our bill and it was made clear that it was discretionary. Second , to slate a country pub because you cannot get your car parked within two paces of the door is unreasonable. This pub is busy for a good reason- its very good VFM One slight cavill, when we left at about 2-30 there was no sign of the large party. Maybe to ensure there is no overordering for the kitchen.

We were on a short break a few miles away and visited The Squirrel as the notes in our holiday cottage indicated it was wheelchair accessible, which is critical for us. Went for dinner, big portions of high quality food at a more than reasonable price. Very friendly staff and we were so impressed we immediately booked for lunch a few days later and that was equally excellent. This place is a rare gem and locals are so lucky to have it.

Super sunday lunch. The chef even managed to do really good roast potatoes, very difficult to cater for large numbers. We had the vegan nut roast and were delighted to find it came with 5 vegetables plus the roasties, including melt in the mouth red cabbage. The staff were attentive and brought us lots of extra gravy on request.

We were staying locally for a fishing weekend and booked The Squirrel for an evening meal, we could not have picked a better place to eat. The venue is brilliant, the staff were so attentive and professional and the food was absolutely gorgeous, we are hoping to go back in September and will definitely be booking again. Thanks to all at The Squirrel, Paul.

I’m not usually one to moan but the service and food was poor and disappointing. After trying to serve our mains before our starters, we then waited 1h 40m for our actual mains to come. When it did arrive the Roast came with no gravy & none offered, the worst roast potatoes I have ever tasted they were dry & powdery and a Yorkshire pudding that was more like a pancake. My beef was cold and the only saving grace was the crackling on the pork belly. The service just seemed bland there was no service with a smile even when we explained that we hadn’t had our starters when they served our mains we just got a grunt the same again when we chased our mains after an hour and a half. When my husband went to pay the bill and mentioned why we wouldn’t be leaving a tip the extremely rude man on the till just said “it’s busy mate”. Well god knows what the service and food would be like if the empty tables surrounding us were filled. We’ve been to far busier places and had better service and much better food.

A little disappointed 😞 not a quaint country pub at all! Seating more like a dining hall. Staff very good, food was average. Nothing special to write about , but 10% service charge on a table for 2 midweek is a little off putting. We won't return sadly.

Very pleased to discover this restaurant is dog friendly. We sat outside under a canopy in the dog friendly area. Ordered cod and chips for both of us at lunchtime. Came with bread and butter which was a pleasant surprise. The food was utterly scrumptious and the outside dining area quite spacious. Other diners food that was being delivered to the tables looked very delicious also.

Went Sunday 13th Feb. Seated quickly and asked for drinks straight away. We had starters, one brie stater was a bit cold on the thick end, needed a minute more cooking, but all presented well. We waited nearly an hour after our starters, For our roast dinner. When it came we were throughly disappointed. All of our veg was well undercooked, The belly pork was well overcooked, The Yorkshire pudding was very dried out and tasteless And the worst roast potatoes ever, hard skin , dry and no taste whatsoever . We left a lot of food on our latest, just could not eat it. Also very expensive £16 for what you get . I .e. 1 small piece of cauliflower 4 small pieces of carrot and 4 runner beans and a helping of deep fried kale. and 4 very unpleasant roast potatoes and overcooked belly pork. The quality and standards have gone down hill on Sundays since the extension was built , and they are trying to get too many people in for Sunday dinners. Car parking is a problem too. If main car park is full you have to park on the outside verge totally dangerous. as cars come up and down the road very fast and you can not see a car until its almost upon you. Needless to say that will be the last time we go to the squirrel for a Sunday lunch
