We are regular customers at Callenders and have never had anything but fab food and service. We have had weekly takeout meals during lockdown and have been amazed how Killian has managed to ensure that his take out meals are just as tasty and reasonably priced. Yesterday had a birthday meal with my family and whilst it wasn't the same as eating in Callenders it was lovely to share a meal with the family without any cooking. Food excellent, three year old granddaughter loved her sausages and mash and cleaned the plate. Thank you Killian. Hope it won't be too long before we can enjoy your hospitality in the restaurant.

Good to see even though the restaurant was full and very busy the food was as good as ever.
We were a party of 4 on a busy Saturday night, all enjoyed very different meals all had 3 courses, food very tasty, plentiful and catered to any extra requests. As always we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Looking forward to our next visit, hopefully soon.

We've been visiting Callenders for years and have loved it every time. Great selection and perfectly cooked. Last weekend, for the first time, we did a contactless Sunday Roast take-away. All packaged superbly. We had a 30 minute drive home and yet the food was still warm and perfectly cooked. Fantastic Sunday lunch. And with some lovely freebies thrown in!
Please support this lovely, family run restaurant in these difficult times.

My wife, her mother & I had a fantastic lunch in here yesterday, all the meals were piping hot and delicious. All ingredients are cooked from fresh & so you may have to wait a tad longer for some items. The staff are very friendly, helpful and courteous, the premises looks like its just had a makeover and therefore clean & comfortable. They have a large menu to choose from with vegan options too. The price was very competitive as well. Looking forward to returning. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and I had the best venison I've ever tested, it was very tender.
Since I wrote the above we've been ordering takeaways from Callenders all of which have been superb, generous & delicious as always turning up at the door well before the time given. 👍😍

In lockdown, took delivery of lovely crispy breaded brie with a delightful sauce, the garlic mushroom and chargrilled chickens, which we thoroughly enjoyed and as last week I regretted not going for the coffee and walnut cappuccino mouse I did all three courses this week. It's a constant amazement to me that the food is as good as eating in, although we miss being "in restaurant", it's definitely a highlight of the week. Thanks to the Callender's team for making this work.

We are all aware of the awful restrictions on our Families, Friends, School, Work, Social Interactions and the inability to visit Pubs, Clubs, Cinema's, Shops and Restaurants to mention just a few during this awful Pandemic.
However, with all the Restaurants closed for in house dining, Callenders have achieved what might have appeared impossible at the start of this Lockdown and that is a combination of the very best of ingredients, prepared and cooked to a world class Fine Dining standard at a very affordable price and all of this can be delivered to your door or in my case I collected the meals today, they were out of this world and what a gem of a real restaurant we have here in the heart of East Sussex. Cillian, Donna and all the staff at Callenders are doing an exemplary job for our community. This is an excellent Restaurant with Excellent food.

We were looking for somewhere to take some friends for dinner and remembered Callenders was only down the road so after reading the reviews I booked a table. We are so very glad we did. My husband and one of our friends had the braised beef cheeks, they said how delicious they were, I had the duck breast and it was fantastic crispy and the red cabbage tasty, their roast potatoes are golden and crispy the best I have tasted for a long time. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The only downside was our other friend ordered the 4 oz steak and to be honest it was tiny. Service is friendly, helpful and professional, the speed that we were served was just right not once were we rushed. We were treated as valued customers. Would I go there again certainly would I recommend this restaurant absolutely.

We wanted to support local businesses during the COVID-19 lockdown and it really pains me to write this review but I don’t want anyone to forego what we have.
Just received a delivery for some food from Callenders...Forgiving that the delivery was over 45 minutes late. I was further angered by the food provided.
We have burnt Yorkshire puddings; didn’t receive our puddings and all the food was cold. Tried to contact the restaurant but there’s no-one available.
All in all; I am disappointed and given the prices they are charging, I expected better.

Hello hypax100. I can do nothing but apologise most sincerely for your experience with us. I thank you for supporting local business during the lockdown. Forced to close our restaurant delivery and takeaway is something new to us and we had to hit the ground running. We got it badly wrong this time and I apologise again most sincerely. The day in question went very badly for us and we tried our best to rescue the day, but failed. We lost both telephone and internet during the day and tried our best to contact customers but could not. The gas road works outside our restaurant made it difficult to get in and out, and a resulting drop of gas pressure meant we were not cooking with our usual equipment. I 100% accept none of this is an excuse and if you would be kind enough to message me privately we will organise a full refund for your bill. I really hope when lockdown is lifted you will come and visit us, because we would love to do what we do best for you. Again, I offer my sincerest apologies and please do get in touch . This wee place caught or eye today. So popped in for lunch. My husband got a very loaded chicken mayo sandwich and I took cinammon and blueberry scone, honestly the best scone Ive ever had. Tea served in wee china teacup. Beautiful. Even bought another scone to take home for supper. Owner was super friendly. We will definitely be back.

While we love a good review, and are always delighted to hear of customers having a great time, unfortunately this time we can not take the credit, as you have posted your review for someone else's restaurant, perhaps another of a similar name. Anyway, your husband's sandwich sounds fantastic and the blueberry scone sounds like a real treat, perhaps next time you visit for a scone you could get the recipe and send it to us, I do love a good scone. I hope you enjoyed the one you bought for your supper too.

we had lunch at Callenders on Friday 31st January to celebrate "BREXIT". we had a lazy afternoon lunch ,i had 3 courses as always, to start was carrot & ginger soup with home made bread it was beautiful never had a soup like it before followed by slow cooked Beef Cheek with roast potatoes and a selection of veg and a treacle sponge and custard to finish a beautiful lunch, Peggy had only one course and that was lightly battered Lemon sole with new potatoes and peas, all washed down with a couple of bottles of chardonnay, all that in very comfortable suroundings. thank you Killian for a lovely lunch as usual.

We eat at Callenders regularly and I always meant to leave a review so finally I have got around to it. The food at this restaurant is always excellent. Local produce, beautifully cooked and well presented. We attended the special Valentine's meal last Saturday, which we have done for the last 5 years. For starters I had red pepper and tomato soup and my husband had rabbit pate - both excellent. My main was crispy duck AND belly of pork. It was yummy. My husband had sirloin steak. Having travelled extensively and eaten in many fine dine restaurants he professed it to be the finest steak he has ever eaten! Desserts were also superb. All this for a very reasonable £60 for a couple. My only complaint is that I didn't get a red rose or chocolates. I only realised when we got home.
Great restaurant, outstanding chef and staff.

Visiting the area with my husband I probably wouldn't have visited this restaurant but after researching previous reviews we gave it a try. After a very warm welcome my husband was given a taste of the local lager before buying. The menu was better than the bog standard meals usually on offer. Our starters of chicken wings and deep fried Brie were plentiful and tasty. Our mains of liver and bacon and duck on a bed of red cabbage were excellent. Everything cooked to order and the quality was first class. I can thoroughly recommend this family run restaurant and wished we lived closer but will definitely return if we were in the area in the future.

Another fantastic meal at Calenders prepared by Killian and his friendly team in a comfortable and clean setting. The chargrilled Venison was cooked to a tee and my wife said the swordfish was the best she'd ever eaten. Portions are large and served piping hot. During lockdown we ordered many takeaways and the quality is always consistently good. Service is quick and served with a smile. Top marks again Callenders 👍🙂

Thank you so very much for taking the time out to rate and review us after your most recent visit to our restaurant. The Venison, which is locally shot, is one of my favourites and is such a beautiful ingredient to work with that it really is a pleasure to cook and serve. The lemon & lime marinated Swordfish is a fantastic dish and again I am so glad that it was enjoyed so much.
I am so delighted to be open again after the most recent lockdown. We all put in a tremendous effort to get up and running again and we are all glad that our efforts have been appreciated. It is so nice to see you and all our customers (old and new) back in the restaurant again.

We’ve just been to Callenders for the 3 course Xmas menu……amazing value at £29.95 a head. Especially when you’re completely confident in the freshness of the ingredients used. We had a range of dishes between the 11 of us, all which were enjoyed immensely, one of our party had the Sword fish which she said was absolutely superb. I thoroughly enjoyed my Tortillas, Turkey and Pear crumble (but I was very jealous of my friends soup which also looked amazing)! I don’t think there was a negative word said from any of us and the service was impeccable, as always. We like to come here with family and friends when we can and will always recommend it here. On a separate occasion we had our (extremely well-behaved) two year old grandson with us and the interaction from the staff was excellent, and made us feel very relaxed and welcome. Well done on creating such a fabulous restaurant.
