I had previously looked online for eating places as we are on a few days away in the area, comments were favourable so I booked a table for 3 including hubby & my 92 year old Mum, we were greeted pleasantly by our waitress & asked which table suited us, after a little problem with the 1st table our fault, we were comfortably seated on a small round one, easier for Mum to get her legs under. I chose the melon bowl and I shared with Mum, hubby had cheesey garlic bread both were really scrumptious, our mains were Chicken stroggonoff and they were helpful when my Mum asked for a small portion, again this was delicious but I could have done with a lot less, hubby had a sirloin steak cooked to perfection, including the drinks the bill was an extremely good price, on our way out a local young man asked if we managed to eat it all and laughed when we said we struggled. It is testament to say we booked a table for a 2nd night in the area & were told they will allocate the same table. Thankyou to the chef & a very pleasant waitress.

4 of us had booked for Sunday roast, and after having tried many other places for a Sunday lunch we all agreed it was outstanding. 3 of us had the carvery and I had the excellent steak pie. We shared ice cream and the ginger sponge and custard. We struggled to finish what was on our plates as they were quite well loaded but there was no way we were going to leave any. Couldn't eat for the rest of the day! We agreed we just couldn't rate it high enough in terms of quality of food, freshness, taste and it was all piping hot. The serving staff were friendly and efficient and the whole experience was superb. Nice pint of Harvey's too! We will definitely return.

I came here on a Sunday for the first time with my Nan and sister. We booked ahead to make sure we could get in! I rang on up on the Saturday and asked if they did baguettes and lighter lunches or just roast dinners. The lady I spoke to was so friendly and accommodating. She checked with the chef who was happy to offer the bar menu as well as the main dinner menu. My Nan and sister had a roast dinner which looked AMAZING. They both opted for roast beef. They were given loads of perfectly cooked meat and a lot of vegetables too including cheesy broccoli, cheesy cauliflower, carrots, parsnips, roast potatoes, new potatoes, peas! I ordered a tuna baguette and a portion of cheesy chips. These were both very generous portions and very yummy indeed! My sister and Nan went on to order a creme brûlée each. They loved them and were very impressed that it came with two homemade shortbreads, ice cream, strawberries and coulis in a little pot too. There was SO many puddings to choose from and I loved watching them all as they came out of the kitchen. The chocolate brownie looked particularly yummy! We sat in the bar area which was lovely. I would recommend asking to go in the bar area when you book. There is also a function room which is used too but this definitely didn’t look as cosy. Thank you for a lovely dinner and a big shout out to the lovely staff! 😊

A group of us 61 in all were booked in for the sunday carvery, 1pm for 1.30. Found eleven to a round table so tightly squeezed elbow to elbow, our first carvery serving was late, and the last table to be served was at 3pm as they then were waiting for veg. Only one member of staff for our tables and the poor member of staff had to see to the usual persons coming in for a carvery. Not being to a carvery before at this pub, rather concerned that you had to go past all in the bar to reach the carvery and then back again with hot plates and food. There was real confusion where we paid individually for our meal, told we would be paying at the table and then found through people going to there cars that we had to pay at the bar. A very disappointing visit. We have been to this pub lunch time during the week and the service and food was excellent.

On arrival we were greeted in a welcoming atmosphere by the friendly members of staff. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the New Year. There was spectacular hot and cold buffet with an outstanding selection of food, which was suitable for all palates. At midnight everyone was handed a glass of sparkling wine and party poppers. Thanks once again to Louisa, Hughie, Jan and all members of staff for the effort they put in to provide a memorable New Year's Eve.

Three of us went for a late carvery since our local was very poor last time we went. Refurbishments have been going on at the King's Head for many months and they always look busy on Sunday afternoons (many cars in car park), so we were keen to visit. We were very impressed with the carvery: a decent portion of 3 different meats and help yourself to as much veg as you like. Oh, and pigs in blankets, which our local charges for (we don't get them as they're never great, anywhere..). The cauliflower cheese was really good and very cheesy (bordering on a little too cheesy), the Yorkshires were fine, (and not some huge, weirdly-shaped things!) and all the veg was cooked perfectly. The stuffing balls were very odd, and I believe they are responsible for me being thirsty all through the night. Another nice touch we liked was a little dish of sauces on our table: the apple, cranberry and mustard were 'normal', possibly from a jar. However the horseradish was amazing! Nice and fiery. We called/booked before arriving, to check if carvery available still. They said 6pm would be the very latest. However others came in after us and went for carvery: I suppose they know it will last till 6pm or they'll compensate somehow, but they'll leave it out until it's gone..? Our young waitress was a bit on the surly side, but not rude. Just not friendly. She did her job fine. Maybe she'd had some bad news or something.. All-in-all a very satisfactory visit and we will be 'carvering' there again some time.

Been here before when I come to visit my sister Kellie and brother in law Rob . We came here to celebrate my husband’s birthday and you can always guarantee you are going to have a fantastic meal . Excellent food as always the Moroccan lamb is my favourite, and the desserts are just Delicious. Clean social distancing in place which makes you feel at ease . But it still didn’t stop people from in enjoying themselves. The staff always happy to help even cleaning my brother in law robs glasses so he could see the menu . Thank you Sarah for that .

We booked for a birthday treat and were told that we could bring our dog if we sat in the bar area. We were pre-warned that there would be a party in the function room. When we arrived and were shown to our table we were really pleased that there was plenty of room for the six of us. The party was in full swing in the next room, and although the music was quite loud, it added to the atmosphere. The menu and specials board provided a great choice with some different options to the usual. We had to wait a bit for our meal but we expected that as they were very busy. It was really worth the wait though as the food was spot on and plentiful. All six of were really happy with our choices which included steak pie, spare ribs and my choice (from the specials menu) red snapper! The staff were very pleasant and attentive and all in all it was a great evening and excellent value. We will definitely be returning.

We were on our way home from Brighton with our friends and stumbled across this lovely restaurant. They were very busy but the waitress squeezed us in. Our carvery dinner was delicious, my husband is a chef and is quite picky about eating out, but even he was very impressed. We had very generous desserts, which were also very good and we went away very full but very impressed. Thanks kings head staff you were all very helpful.

Not a bad place for a relaxed family meal. The staff were nice, and the food was pretty good. Portion sizes are very generous, which made me happy! Despite all of these positives, our experience was marred by the haphazard approach to customer service. We waited patiently for someone to come and take our order, whilst tables that arrived after us were served. Then, our food arrived ahead of those tables that had ordered waaaay before us. Some items were missing, when the food was bought out. 20mins after asking for the bill, we still hadn't seen any sign of it (or our waitress). We gave up and decided to go pay at the bar. Despite all of that, I would give this place a second chance. The food, atmosphere and staff were all positives.

Thank you for your review Unfortunately on this evening we were busier than expected and issues with staff being off and there was some confusion with meals going to wrong tables as your case, this should have been explained to you on the evening for which I apologise it wasn't dealt with better. We always pride ourselves on high quality of customer service and its always disappointing to hear when we haven't achieved this, hopefully you will vist again next time you're in the area Kins regards Louisa Weaver Landlady of The Kingshead

Pork chop was over cooked till it was solid. We were told that as we hadn’t mentioned it to any of the not-so-bothered staff when we hadn’t even started to eat it, that there was nothing they could do. Even though over half was left on the plate, there was no apologies for the chef not being able to cook it so that it was edible. There were no dairy-free options for childrens pudding at all and they didn’t even seem bothered by it! Waste of a good evening!

Popped into this pub for food after leaving the previous pub which had no customer service and no personality, wow, so glad we had food at The Kings head, it was delicious. We had steak pudding and open chicken burger, portions were huge and all home cooked. Absolutely gorgeous ! Excellent work Chef ! We were made to feel welcome, our dog was welcomed with a bowl of water and treats, lovely friendly staff, got talking to a local couple, the experience was all positive. Thank you.

Stopped by chance for Sunday roast, was excellent. Carvery served by waitress due to COVID-19 restrictions, but plenty of food, and really tasty. One of the best roasts I’ve had out of home.

We visited the pub on Christmas Eve as a family gathering having not visited for a number of years. I had steak pie with chips and veg and the meat was tender and plentiful. Hubbie had the duck which he enjoyed. There is a kids menu with main and pudding and the pudding in particular is very generous. The menu is usual pub grub but prices are reasonable.
