We called in early evening for dinner and were greeted by Balraj who was very friendly. We proceeded to order Dorado which came with rice, salad and sautéed veg. Before our main, we were given a free starter or fried aubergine with chilli dip. It was very nice. The main was outstanding. The fish was chunky and cooked perfectly. The rice, veg and salad were very tasty too. For , I opted for ice cream and the wife had banana flambé which she said was very nice. We had 2 large Phoenix beers and our host offered us 2 homemade rum, on the house. The whole package came to 1475 rupees which equates to £27.57 at the rate we got (53.5 to the £). Overall, a fantastic meal, excellent value for money and a fantastic host. We will definitely return. Can’t recommend it highly enough

This place has everything you want from a local restaurant serving fresh local food. It had a casual and buzzing atmosphere, a cheap and cheerful menu with a great range of drinks, and even a surprise appearance from a live band who came around the tables taking requests and got the whole restaurant dancing in their seats! We ate the prawn curry and the catch of the day - both of which were cooked to perfection and had the most gorgeous char-grill flavours! We also had the pineapple and banana flambée for dessert but (embarrassingly) tucked in before the actual flames arrived in a boozy ladle - but this would have been an exciting finishing touch to an already great meal (had we not been so hasty) The waitress, who was perhaps the manager, who served our table was so friendly and enthusiastic and really made the meal that bit more enjoyable for us. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, and if we are ever in Mauritius again we will most certainly be returning. Thank you!!!

The place can be busy at the evenings so book in advance or come around 6pm to avoid disappointment. Atmosphere in the early evening is flat, service is just worming up. Dishes are well portioned and well presented. Food is good but only good not great. Toilet is in the middle of the restaurant’s floor so avoid if possible. We were sat by the “window” and it was ok. Limited vegetarian choices thought.

Politely sent back my dish that didn't come out prepared as requested - a new dish came back twice as bad (overcooked fish). Sent the food in the kitchen again, annoyed, not hungry anymore and guess what?? They made me pay for the dish I did not touch. Not a single apology, not any commercial gesture and dirty looks!!!!! Seemed like I was bothering them. They almost insist on the fact that I was lying/pretending I didn't want to pay. Also, the service was terribly slow. This restaurant is overrated!!!

A great place to taste the national dish. I had the rougaille calamari which was quite good. A nice touch was the offered amuse bouche of eggplant samousas; a gift more expensive restaurants ignore. A nice mix of locals and tourists.

I sought out this restaurant after two different people told me about it when they knew I was going to Mauritius (one of which was a close friend who is a foodie and whose restaurant tips are always spot on, and the other was randomly a Mauritian woman who overheard me talking to my friend in a coffee shop in the UK and she came over to say look for this place in Grand Baie!) I can see why it is Top Rated.. I ordered some fried squid for my starter and it was some of the best I've ever had.. Mauritian people love a fritter and they know how to do decent batter. Forget the tough rubbery rings in greasy batter that you get elsewhere... this was fresh squid lightly deep fried in a crispy batter that clung to the squid and the texture of the squid and the batter was spot on. Served with a luscious homemade mayonnaise to dip it in. For mains I chose red snapper grilled with a garlic butter sauce and served with savoury rice and a generous mixed side salad. Nothing more to say about that. 10/10! I did not have room for a dessert because they also gave e a few aubergine fritters as an appetiser when I sat down. I could have chosen a lobster or prawns but I had had them elsewhere and what I ordered was what I fancied that day, just right! It was lunchtime and it was filling without leaving me feeling overstuffed. It was easy to get a table without booking although it was lunchtime so I don't know whether I just got lucky, and/or whether booking would be advisable/essential for evening meals. The bill was a LOT cheaper than anticipated, given the quality quantity and presentation of the food! Definitely recommend.

Friendly service with smiles all round. The food is great if you are too lazy to cook at home. The rougaille octopus was slightly undercooked in the frying pan. The sauce could use more thyme otherwise good value-for-money. Wonderful rum arrange.

For our second night in Grand Baie, we headed out to La Rougaille Creole and were not disappointed. We had crab soup to start, coupled with the free aubergine fritters. Some people have commented that the crab soup is hard to eat but as long as you ask for a finger bowl and take your time, it is all good fun. My shirt passed the messiness test so that was good. For mains we had the grilled tiger prawns in wine and the crab curry. Both were fantastic and amazing value for money considering what you would pay in the UK for prawns as big as these. Really good flavours and as good as you will find anywhere. To drink we had the rose wine and the home made rum. Not much to say other than the wine was drinkable and the rum was a good ‘sipper’. Total bill came to equivalent of £45. Would recommend a visit and hope to come back before the end of our trip.

This is a hidden gem in Grand Baie! Our family of five managed to get a table here and the meal and atmosphere was fantastic. This restaurant appealed to us as there were a lot of locals eating here and the food looked great. Service was very friendly and when we visited there was a trio of guitarists that really added to the overall experience. My son loved the crab soup and I had a seafood gratin that was presented in a beautiful shell. The banana flambé at the end was great theatre and tasted delicious. My husband also loved the rum shot offered at the end of the meal. Thank you it was our favourite restaurant!

I would so much like to like this place more. Were there for lunch a week ago. My husband ordered bouillabaisse and got crab soup instead. He had a fun time battling with the whole crab in the soup bowl. I had octopus salad which was quite chewy. We asked for some bread several times but only got it after we had eaten. Salt was also a hard thing to get. When we finally got it the waiter asked if he can take it to another table. Don't they have enough salt dispensers? Were there also yesterday for dinner. Had prawn scewers which were quite nice and beef curry which was totally bland. Luckily we had picked the salt already to our table which helped but had to ask for some chili to make it taste of something. The beef was also quite tough. So, in all the food is ok, nothing special, the service is haphazard. My husband had to get up and ask a waitress to get our order. Pity. Have eaten there also last year and the year before and remember them being better. They also have a new system, two seatings a night, at 18 and 20.30 and were turning away people from half empty restaurant. Not maybe such a good idea after all.

Staff is quite inattentive and not responding to guest requests. Food was mediocre and grilled fish was terrible, not fresh, not well cocked or grilled and no taste at all. We definitely were expecting some more quality here but it seems it is a bit a tourist trap. We would definitely not recommend the place. There are better places in Grand Baie.

Highly recommend this restaurant with local cuisine. We found it following the signs on the main road and glad we did - ended up going there 3x in one week. The place is lovely, airy and the staff are incredubly friendly. prices are very reasonable - food is great value for money. In the evenings they often have a local band of three playing - maybe a tad loud if you are looking for a quiet dinner but you get into the vibe. If you're nearby, you should check it out.

Excellent all round. Welcoming staff, easy menu with small number of items. Plenty of choice so the focus is on care for each dish. And good value for money. If you want fancy tables and silver cutlery, this is not for you. But if you appreciate good produce, well prepared and cooked for individuals, then a roadside cafe like this is somewhere for you to try.

We were in this restaurant in April and it was not bad. We decided to repeat it in February. went to have lunch. the hall is not full. at the end of lunch we were left alone. But!!! The cocktails took 20 minutes and were received only after 2 reminders. The soup is watery. They completely forgot about chicken curry! They brought it after 3 reminders, but I didn’t want to eat anymore. when I asked to pack the curry to take away, they brought it in a container and did not give me a bag. did they expect me to carry the container in my hands?! even in cheap cafes they give a package for the convenience of customers.. We tried chicken at home - dry, tasteless, no sauce at all. the guys updated the advertisement and lost quality. we won't go again. the biggest disappointment in taste and service.

Very hot, small courtyard. They brought warm white wine and asked if it was ok? I said no, then they brought me ice??? The fried squid was raw, I asked for it to be fried, it became a little better. The king prawns were good. The steak was fully cooked, although we asked for medium. The bill was 65€.
