About
I warmly invite you to my restaurant where I cook in a traditional way. My mother learned me how to use products of the Nature and how to prepare recipes to make the ingredients give their best flavor, it is a pleasure to share this with you. Visit my place is also the occasion to get off the beaten track and spend time in a truly Mozambican atmosphere,I am happy to chat with you about my country

Zita is fantastic, so welcoming. She cooks from fresh ingredients, made to order (so don't come here if you're in a rush, you sometimes have to wait for about half an hour until served). Flexible with the menu, if you ask. Accompanied by very cold beer! Rustic atmosphere, nothing posh about it. Prices aren't hugely lower than in a more formal restaurant. We ate here most nights of our week-long stay in Vilanculos.

My family visited Zita and her restaurant whilst holidaying in Vilanculos and wow! Sitting in a simple outdoor table setting at Zita’s family home we were spoilt with the very best local Mozambican home cooking. Absolutely blown away by the flavours and generous amount of different dishes we were served. It was amazing to get out of our lodge and see vilanculos properly. Zita is an amazing lady and not only an incredible cook but an absolute delight and very inspiring. Restaurant is BYO and cash only. A must!

We were able to organise via our hotel AsDunas for a tour and market visit followed by a cooking lesson with Zita at her restaurant. We met at the local market in Vilanculos and Zita was thorough in her explanation of local ingredients and how to select the best produce. We then headed to her hotel where we were part of the entire cooking process, from preparation to final presentation. Our menu (which we decided together) included matapa, chima, sautéed Mozambican prawns as well as a fish and coconut curry. We really enjoyed the entire day with Zita, we were comfortable to ask questions and she also gave us further background about the diet and cuisine of Vilanculos. Please note that Zita's restaurant is currently under renovation and she is working hard to finish this as soon as possible, however of course Covid has resulted in fewer tourists and income. The restroom area is basic and clean.

We highly recommend Zita. We are a family of 4 and my kids are normally picky. Zita made grilled chicken and rice and beans which they enjoyed! I had crab matapa and my husband had fish curry with peanut sauce. We all enjoyed our meal in a hut. If you want a local experience this is nice place. Zita is a great host and had our meal all ready by the time we arrived. I recommend calling and placing your order in advance! She can make anything you want.

Zita is a special Mozambique woman who cooks with love and passion dishes from the tradition: peanut curry (with chicken, crab or vegetal), fish, rice and delicious sauces. Everything is made with love. Suggestive location in a real Mozambique house, you can also ask for a table under the stars with a candle light.

We spent some wonderful hours with Zita. She took us to the market and guided us through its maze. Just amazing. Kids loved it ! Then we went to her place where she taught us how to cook meals with fish, beef, chicken and the famous masata. That was friendly, funny and delicious ! A must do !

We booked a cooking class with Zita and our group of 5 was able to go to the local market and shop for our items then on to her restaurant to cook. It was a great interactive time. We pounded manioc leaves to make a curry called Matapa. We even grated coconut but be very careful of the sharp blade. We made fish curry, chicken and beans, and manioc root and sugar dessert. All were delicious. Zita was friendly and helped us get a feel for typical Mozambique food.

We liked this place, but in the end, we prefer to eat in a proper restaurant. Food was good but not excellent and not cheap. Zita is a great person but I wonder how much of it is acting, but we give her with pleasure the benefit of the doubt.

We had a seafood platter with prawns, calamari, crab & fish at Zita. Very conveniently located just outside Baoba where we stayed.

Ate a delicious local meal of coconut rice, zambezi chicken, greens and peanut curry fish. Zita's "shackstaraunt" is down home cooking in simple surroundings.

We ate at Zita's place and the food was good but Zita herself was the highlight as she was so lovely and attentive. Wish we had time to take her cooking classes!
