My husband and I were given a table by the window, which was nice. There was a little garden that had old, worn decorations, that looked sad. The entire place is frozen in 1970- very dated. The only server working was very nice and attentive....Menu is extremely limited, but a dinner includes bread, soup, salad, dinner and dessert. HUGE portions. Everything we ordered was delicious. BUT-I couldn't get over the cat hair all over the tablecloth, or the old lipstick stains on my napkin, or the dried splattered coffee on the faded cup. So, excellent food, decent prices, but I felt the place was dirty.More

Good, well prepared food and drink, especially excellent croissants. The only criticism I have is that you are a large group they often do not have the staff to handle it and it can take a very long time to be served.

We were pleasantly surprised by the food and the ambiance. The restaurant was very clean and the food delicious. We started with a lovely crab salad and freshly baked croissants and nut bread. The duck was very good and the rack of lamb was excellent....Each meal came with salad, soup, veggies, potatoes or rice, coffee and dessert. Not only was the food delicious. It was also a good value for the money. We will definitely go back again.More

Not very happy with the food. I was trusting the reviews on here and suggested to come for dinner - food was lacking in flavor and presentation. They need to put a little more thought in the food that is being offered as well redecorating...which would include cleaning the carpet - there's an odor that must be coming from that. I'm sorry that I can't recommend this place to anyone - it really was not good and a waste of money.More

Nice ambience, old restaurant with a fireplace. Food is great, with a full menu. Service is very good as well. Bathrooms could use a little updating, but are clean.

All the food is freshly made, the owner, Carol, is cooking everything to order. There is a crab salad served with the bread that is out of this world. The Dutchess Cheese soup is another must have. Carol jokes that you have to buy the...place to get the recipe for it. My favorite thing to order is the Pines Chicken.More

This restaurant was a great surprise. We ate there on my husbands birthday unsure of the food and service based on other reviews. My husband had passed it many times while traveling on Eldred-Yulan Rd., and really wanted to eat there. Please do not listen...to any bad review or you will be missing a very good meal and a great deal. The menu has a lot of good choices, steak, fish, poultry, pasta. The dinner includes salad or soup, dinner and dessert. There are appetizers on the menu, but you will fill up on them and not be able to enjoy the very generous helpings of your dinner. We like to try everything when we eat out and definitely didn't need to order an appetizer. We each chose a different steak meal, and they were cooked perfectly. Soup, salad, dessert were all delicious. There is also a wine selection which is very reasonably priced. My husband drinks beer and he was very happy with the selection. I feel that you can have a bad meal anywhere, even in the finest restaurants. I am sure that the reviewers who were unhappy with their meals were having a bad night themselves, or caught the restaurant on a bad night because you can't have a good meal like this without having the experience to prepare, cook and serve it. The bread served before dinner was homemade and they also serve a macaroni crab meat salad with the bread which was delicious. Our desserts were also delicious. I noticed that the restaurant is family friendly and they have several selections specific for children. It was my husbands birthday and we were seated at a quiet table near a window. It was very romantic. I highly recommend Under the Pines in every way for a good quality meal for a good value. We will definitely be back!More

I had heard from a friend how good the food was here and what large portions you got....In my opinion..not so. I had a NY strip steak and both end tips were cut off, so it was small. 2 small red potatoes and about 3/4...cup of glazed carrots. My friend had cod with the same sides. My steak was cooked perfectly and was tender. My friend is never fussy, but she found the cod had a strange taste to it and left more than half on her plate. Service was good, server was very friendly, but just disappointed in my first and probably last visit.More
