Jonathan cooked a fabulous meal for my family, taking all of our dietary issues into consideration. Not only was the meal fantastic, but we shared dinner with other guests in his guesthouse, which made for a very fun and entertaining evening

Unique experience

Our party of 4 were the only ones dining on the evening we booked for and we had a brilliant evening! Jonathan was the perfect host, chef, waiter and raconteur! He served us a delicious meal of many courses with paired wines and it was...all amazing! On arrival we were offered a brandy and champagne cocktail and when dinner was ready we sat at an enormous table in the exquisite dining room. Beautifully presented dishes with locally sourced ingredients and they really were very delicious. We weren't rushed and the whole evening was a wonderful unique experience!More

Benguela Lodge De Kelders

This used to be just a restaurant, but now it is a guest house with a number of rooms. However, if you stay you will also be able to book places at the 16-seat table for a wonderful evening of a multi-course meal with wine...pairings. Jonathan is a wonderful host and he and Handre serve a very creative menu with fish, meat, soups and two desserts. Brandy and chocolate to finish. We were a family group of six, but we had a n excellent time with the several other guests who had booked just for the dinner. Highly recommend.More

Weird experience.... booking confirmed on the day....restaurant closed!

Something most unusual and unexpected happened. I confirmed our dinner booking in advance, headed to the restaurant on time, couldn’t find it.... called and eventually was told that the restaurant was closed. They had let all other guests know but not me! Most unexpected after...selecting a highly rated restaurant on the listings. They did call another local restaurant to book a table for us as a back up and kindly covered 50% of our bill. Altogether a somewhat strange experience. Advise: call to book this restaurant rather that relying on the online route.More

We had an excellent dinner

Best dinner

Jonathan and Handre serve an exquisite dinner! The flavours are so unique and the food is so well presented. Each course is paired with a wine that they choose. I cannot recommend this dinner experience more highly. Thank you Jonathan

Great

Filthy night, horizontal rain so only 4 diners instead of the expected dozen or so. Didn’t matter. Our exuberant host made up for it. Excellent meal although the memory is a bit hazy due to the generous pouring of the host. Thoroughly recommend the experience....Luckily it was downhill home.More

The Balls The Balls!

Great food, great wine, great company

I went to Benguela with my wife and three adult children and were overwhelmed by Johanthan's hospitality. Other (local) guests joined the table for dinner as well. It really learned us more about South Africa in general; local tips for things to see and do...were appreciated. The food was excellent. Tomata/red pepper cappuccino was phenomenal. Local meat (Eland): very tasty. During the evening we enjoyed different South African wines which were all excellent.More
