I was told about this hidden gem by friends - who ended up taking me there for a Sunday lunch - and it was an absolutely amazing experience!
It is situated in the main street of the picturesque De Rust, which is special in itself. The interior is modern, yet welcoming with amazing pieces of art displayed selectively on the walls and tables (there is art gallery right next door on the same premises!). The huge veranda in the front is so typical Karoo style and it makes you fell welcome from the get go.
The restaurant is owned and managed by Andries, Jan and Tom. (Tom is a silent partner who usually sleeps somewhere underneath a table... as dogs tend to do!!) They are super friendly and attentive and nothing is too much to ask for. We could even bring in our own wine!
The food is simply sublime. It is made with loads of love and attention to detail, you start eating with your eyes first!! Everything was super tasty and freshly made and the best part is that you only pay for what you are having! I can highly recommend their Sunday buffet lunch!!
We will be back! Thank you for an amazing afternoon.

I can not begin to describe how stunning this place is. The service was next level and the food just delicious, and you can taste the love and passion in it. My rooibos tea was served in the most beautiful tea cup and it just made me feel so special, like a princess. Then lets talk about the décor, just stunning and the attention to detail is something else. The art work is something else, then you have to visit the art gallery which you can enter from the restaurant and then you have the lifestyle shop with the most stunning home soft furnishing pieces for your home and pantry/deli product to buy. Everything is sourced beautifully. If you drive through De Rust, please stop here and if you live in the area get there immediately.

It is always with a measure of trepidation that we decided to celebrate another spin around the sun at Pluim. Small villages often have the best intentions but can’t quite pull off city standards.
At Pluim André and Jan have done just that. They’ve pulled it off. Beautifully restored building, tastefully decorated, a warm welcome to guests and lovely food.
On Sunday’s themed cuisine is served “ buffet” style. Today we enjoyed North African fare. Just up my alley. Small platters and bowls tastefully prepared and served. I went for two helpings. The Phyllo cigars (almost like a Baklava filling) were the perfect ending to our meal.
Thank you for a most enjoyable afternoon.

It’s autumn. It’s chilly but Pluim insists on keeping all doors open. Not a bad thing except with cement floors and minimalist decor you end up feeling uncomfortably chilled. Then there is the really slow service. I don’t blame the staff, it’s just that there aren’t enough of them. Patrons start getting antsy which makes staff nervous which just makes for an unhappy experience. Food was presented well and was cooked perfectly but no condiments were to be seen. Sadly not a happy experience.

We stopped for lunch at Pluim and had an excellent experience from the welcome at the door to the delicious meal. My husband had the ostrich pita and I had the lamb - both were generous portions and extremely tasty, served with chips and an interesting side salad. There is also a small shop with homemade pickles, jams and relishes as well as craft work and art on display. Highly recommend this gem!

This modern and welcoming restaurant in the center of De Rust is a must visit destination. Charming hosts Andries and Jan have created an artistic and welcoming eatery, Chef Ilse is superb and happy to cater to vegans, the food is outstanding. We attended Sunday Buffet lunch, the mushroom risotto was divine, several delicious salads and vegetable dishes, the peanut blondie dessert disappeared in two seconds it was so good. Weekly breakfast and lunch menu caters for all tastes. Do not drive through this town without stopping here!

Excellent experience. Waiters very attentive and engaged with us very knowledgeably about the food. They were very friendly and very welcoming as well on top of what was a beautiful setting in this little town. The food was amazing. Our compliments to the chef. This restaurant will certainly feature on future stops and will probably be a reason for a short left in the future. Looking forward to our next visit.
Also, the restaurant is linked to a wonderful shop with a variety of stunning items to purchase from art to bags and soap. It is a recommended part of the visit.

What a remarkable place. The ambiance is true Karoo elegance with a twist of French flair. The menu is extensive and full of inventive dishes which made decisions difficult! We wanted everything, but what we settled for was close to perfect. The food was breathtaking and beautifully presented. We were welcomed like old friends and will return in a heartbeat.

Absolutely fantastic. Not to be missed. We stopped here after reading a couple reviews and we were not disappointed. We each had separate dishes and they were all great. The produce is all grown on site and was so good. The service was fantastic. We met the owner Andreis (probably have spelling wrong!) and he gave us a bit of the history and what other plans he has. The setting in the back where we ate is almost hypnotic. Thank you Andreis!

Today we were a table of 5, on our 5th visit to the spectacular De Rust eatery, PLUIM. Travelling all the way from Sedgefield, the incredible vegan choices, faultless service, and impeccable facilities.. always make the drive effortlessly worthwhile! As a very well travelled group, we find it immensely refreshing to leave, after every visit, unable to find fault with any aspect of this extraordinary establishment in this quirky little town! PLUIM is hugely deserving of 6 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
