It an average restaurant with bad to bad service. The food was nothing to write about just to say it is bland. The soup was the best part of the meal. Moroccan meatballs with pasta is nothing more than plain dry meatballs with tomato and onion smoor with a sweet chilli taste. Where the Moroccan comes from is definitely not in any spices. The fillet are a few medallions served on mash with a pumpkin some vegetables. Not very appetising at all. When you asked for something please be prepared to wait a good while. The bill took forever and we followed other guests who also got tired of waiting and paid at the bar.

Quite honestly I don't know how this restaurant gets such a high rating. Setting quite quirky, food very bland but edible and waitresses not very friendly and too busy. We have used Trip Advisor reviews a lot on our holiday through the Cape and found this one to be a dud.

With not much to do in Clanwilliam itself, we were driving around this strange little town and spotted Michaels on Park. It looked closed, but I thought I would walk towards the entrance to double check. It was closed. On my way to the car, someone called to me. I later learnt that it was Michael. He had seen me on the CCTV and asked if I wanted to make a booking for the evening, which I did. We were not disappointed. The restaurant was full, the food was top quality, the service great and the atmosphere different and welcoming. Before long, patrons struck up conversation with neighbouring tables. It turned out to be the highlight of our visit to Clanwlliam. .If ever you spend a night in Clanwilliam, be sure to make a dinner reservation at Michaels on Park. The building is stepped in interesting history.

The food we had was a Hake Thermidor and a platter with Boerewors, lamb chop and pork belly. Sorry to say the Hake was not Thermidor at all and the piece of hake needed a magnifying glass. The mixed platter was absolutely tasteless , the only flavour came from the piece of boerewors and the pork belly was eaually tasteless. There was a contraption on the plate which looked like a pancake or potato patty and this was drenched in sugar , the second and major flavour of the dish. We conveyed our displeasure to the waitress but the chef / owner never engaged with us and quite the opposite happened during the time while we waited for our bill: He engaged with other patrons but avoided us . For us, never again....

Very disappointing food and slow service despite not being busy. Limited menu. Chicken schnitzel seemed to have been purchased at the local shop, fritters were sour and not freshly cooked. Bobotie was reheated and home made chutney came from a cheep bottle.

Nice venue, but very slow service. Salad starter was nice, main course Moroccan Couscous was very sugary and under spiced. my husband chicken pie was a plate of very bland stodgy. A big disappointment in a town which could do with a decent restaurant!

There isn't a lot of choice in Clanwilliam so if you stay more than a couple of nights, you're likely to end up here. The building is really interesting and we were able to sit out on the front terrace but apart from that, I'm not sure where the high ratings come from. The first waitress we encountered seemed unable to smile (the second one was much friendlier). Foodwise, my salad was very fresh but a cacophony of flavours (or lack of flavour as far as the tomatoes were concerned): cucumber (unpeeled, I always find it's so much better when it is at least partially peeled), onion, fresh mushrooms, hard, light yellow, feta (which didn't taste as all like the Greek feta I am used to), spicy olives, apple and leaves. The vinaigrette, on the other hand, was delicious and my husband enjoyed his fish cakes. On the main course front, I am not a bobotie connoisseur but this one was bland, dry and covered by a thin crust of 'custard' rather than a fluffy pillow of creamy eggy topping. The home-made chutney was top notch, though. My husband's steak was overcooked and not that brilliant, he said, but we both enjoyed the vegetables. We shared a crepe Suzette dessert which was also quite bland. So, sorry, guys, it was OK but it could be so much better.

Had dinner on a Sunday evening. Nice terrace but slow and sullen service by unfriendly waitresses. Ate the driest and most tasteless hake ever in South-Africa. A rare and unexpected experience in this friendly town.

Wonderful experience at Michael’s. We all chose different dishes and everything was superb. Interesting menu and excellent service, even though they were fully booked. Also fantastic value. We’ll be back for sure.

We met Michael on Lambertsbay earlier the morning. He said that we must visit his restaurant in Clanwilliam. His suggestion was to savour the fish Cakes and Bobotie. We did as ordered. My wife and I were both surprized by the flavour in both dishes. Nothing stood out and no flavour surpassed another. I even tried bribing the staff for the bobotie recipe. According to Michael, he is the third generation that prepared this bobotie. He keeps this recipe a close secret. A visit to Clanwilliam will not be complete without enjoying authentic South African cuisine.

Food wasn’t great at all. We had the lamb stew and the chicken thighs followed by the crepe Suzette. None of which was particularly good. Understandably Loadshedding is always going to have an impact on the food preparation but to call a spade a spade… we’ve had loadshedding for a long time now and the majority of restaurants in the country have caught up with the new-normal and are able to function well under such circumstances. In fairness we aren’t paying ‘loadshedding prices’ so let’s stop using loadshedding as an excuse for shoddy service and poor preparation. Didn’t enjoy the experience at all.

All the food was great - the fish cakes were especially good. Small but tasteful venue, 5/5 would go again.
