The environment was cosy with great fireplaces but the interior needs a face lift. Coffee marks and salt still on the table from the previous customers and the table itself is a little bit small. The beef burger on roosterkoek is great and a very generous portion. The meat was good quality but a little overcooked and needs a good basting. The roosterkoek and fried pumpkin could be cooked a little longer but all in all very satisfying.

To be honest, the only reason we stopped here on Xmas Eve was because Diesel & Creme was already closed. We sat outside, and with my allergies, there really wasn't all that much I could eat or wanted to eat other than a chicken mayo sandwich. They were out of stock of many of their menu items, but then it was no doubt due to the season and the fact that we pulled in near closing at the busiest time of the year. My meal was all right. Nothing to trumpet from the highest heavens, but I did appreciate that the serving staff were so kind to our doggos, who were very thirsty – so recommended to dog owners who want to stop for a quick bite while travelling.

This is a quirky charming friendly lunch spot well worth breaking your journey up for. The food is good hearty and we started with a nice vegetable soup. We then had an excellent pepper steak pie with chips and a good lasagne. The beer from Saggy Stone was good too. Plenty of parking and really good value.

This was such a disappointment. The waitress could not answer any questions. We asked what the Sunday Lunch was. She did not know…We then found out that although advertised…there is none. The lamb curry I ordered…she came back 10 minutes later to say there was none of that either😂 The Bobotie came….it was cold, stodgy and tasteless. The hot chocolate was watery with no milk in it. The entire meal from sit down to leaving took over 1 1/2 hours. Will not recommend it or return to there.

I'm a local in Barrydale but live and work overseas for most of the year. I am never disappointed at the main breakfast on offer at the Country Pumpkin restaurant. I have to say, that having had breakfasts in all the local eateries, I find that the Country Pumpkin is the most delicious, versatile and value for money in any eatery on the R62. For R89, you get 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 1 boerewors sausage, a grilled tomato, savoury mince, grilled mushrooms, 2 slices of toast with butter and jam, serving of chips and not to forget the signature pumpkin fritter. The staff are always friendly and ready to accommodate without hovering too much. The views of the mountains opposite are uninterrupted and breathtakingly beautiful. Sunshine, views and excellent food, what more could one ask for.

My friend and I wandered along for some late lunch yesterday. With hardly anything open at the moment, we ended up here. (The Obelix sign wouldn't normally do it for me, sorry.) Two really friendly waitresses delivered a truly impressive fish and chips platter - accompanied by small green salad, curried pasta salad, slaw, a little pumpkin fritter, some onion rings, and ... I can't remember. Oh, and we had some of the local pale ale: Saggy Stone. Well worth the stop.

We were at first undecided as to where to have our breakfast, as Barrydale offers a host of unique options but opted for The Country Pumpkin Restaurant as the country town vibe appealed to us and we were not disappointed. We went for the breakfast special which landed up being absolutely delicious and more than we could eat. In fact, the breakfast carried us right through the day. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the stunning view and a cold coffee shake. This was the perfect start to a quick weekend breakaway in the middle of a pandemic. I can honestly recommend The Country Pumpkin Restaurant for a pitstop meal.

The food was good and very quick service. It’s right on the main road so made it an easy place to stop for lunch as we drove through Barrydale. Quite on the expensive side for a quick lunch though.

We stop in front of the second sign of the “Country Pumpkin” restaurant, as this area, not only Barrydale, is famous for its zucche. This time we go in to enjoy a decent espresso, really good here in South Africa, and buy some fresh water.

Peaceful setting under the grape vines with rustic ambiance. Two musicians playing in the background. Now, let us hope the food is as good as the setting.... and yes it indeed was. Service was good too.

Ordered steak and were informed that they don't have anything in stock - 12:00 on a Sunday. Ordered roosterkoek, were then advised not even 1 roosterkoek available, but yet advertise ROOSTERKOEK on route 62...on HUGE entrance board....had to settle for cold kudu pie.... FALSE ADVESTISEMENT
