Excellent restaurant offering fantastic breakfasts and excellent dinners. The eggs Benedict come highly recommended for brekkie. The steak at dinner was cooked perfectly. Although i had chips (which were fantastic) the mash and the gravy used ( which my Son had) were phenomenal. Overall, great...restaurant with great views.More

Found the restaurant by accident, and what a great find. I don't know where some of the negative comments come from, but our experience was top class. Prices what you would expect from a, I would almost say "fine dining" establishment. Our food, we had...steak, was done to perfection. The service was great, attentive, friendly without being intrusive. We will be back.More

The food is expensive and so our expectations were high. The staff were friendly but our food was unfortunately very disappointing. It was nicely presented but the burger was almost inedible: dry, gristly, bland. The steak (for the price) was also a disappointment. Small, tasteless...and not much came with it. For breakfast we ordered pancakes which sounded delicious on the menu, but they were stodgy, pale and had hardly any sauce. Frying then with even a little butter would make a huge difference! The restaurant has potential but if you want to charge top dollar, the food should at least be good!More

Beautiful location, just a shame the service and food was so bad. We waited over an hour for our food, with only 3 other tables. We were looking forward to the steak, but it was such a let down as it wasn't cooked right, the...sides came after we were done eating. It wasn't that busy, but we don't even know who our waiter was, we had to find someone just to take our order. Not impressed. It might just have been a bad day in the kitchen, but communicate it to your guests if that is the case.More

I booked a table for 14 people a month ago for my mothers 70th birthday party for today 28 march 2021 and requested a deck seating. Problems: 1. Table not put together for the booking and manager did not care. 2. Food was ordered before...neighbouring tables and came long after theirs were served. 3. My wifes burger was ordered well-done and it was medium. 4. The Sides came before main dish and so also finished before main dish was served. 5. Many at the table had to wait at least 10 min between the server came with food from the kitchen. The result some of us was done by the time other received their food. 6. The steaks is sub par for a steak house. My steak was nice but to no means 300g. My brother in laws' was the same size and quality than a steak roll. It was no thicker then 5 mm. He actualy took my sisters bun and made a steakroll. 7. The sauce came after my steak was almost finished. 8. Drinks took forever to come out. 9. I was asking for the manager at the reception. The guy told me he is not the manager. I asked for a manager whereafter he went to find him/her. He came back and said the manager left and he is the stand-in manager. I discussed the issues with him and was just brushed off. Final: I wished that I read the trip adviser reviews before; these were the same issues. New menu??? New cheff?? 2 months no improvement. I am really dissapointed and will not recommend this restaurant to anybody..More

With every word and true compassion; I...explained the problems we are having with one of our meat suppliers, as well as the fact that we are starting a new process to improve all our standard and products in detail (More than any Chef would), and I have been employed as such as the new Head Chef of Val du Charron to fix these issues. I asked you cordialy and professionally to please return, so that I myself and the Val du Charron Team at The Grill Room may have the opportunity to show You and Your Guests what we are capable of, and how Great the New Menu and standards will be. I comped ALL your food On the House, except for two dishes which of there was absolutely no problem with, so I took off R 1 020-50 off your Bill for You and Your 6 Guests. Still, after being Very Friendly (being approached on my OFF DAY passing through the Restaurant and truly caring and Really giving attention to your complaint and the issue at hand), you still decided to go and write this Trip Advisor Review. I am truly sorry, and I did say that numerous times as we discussed your complaint for nearly 25 minutes. I tried my Best to accommodate you and your Guests, and be friendly and respectful. I do truly hope that you and your Guests will return to The Grill Room for a totally new standard and experience in two weeks from now. Myself and the entire Val du Charron Team at The Grill Room value each and every Customer / Client, and I do truly hope that you and your Guests return for a great experience with us, because we will make improvements, and are already training to reach a total new and much higher level of standards in both food and service. 7 Happy pensioners from Cape Town with high expectations from this 5 star venue with world class views in the beautiful Cape. This was the worst experience I have had at any restaurant in 20 years. It’s hard to not serve one good meal in...7, this restaurant succeeded. The steaks were shocking, the risotto like old oats porridge, spinach ....inedible, sweet potatoes ...soggy & tasteless. The chef/ manager “Wayne” boasted about cooking for millionaires & the best restaurants in SA. Then blamed suppliers, staff, owners. He then suggested we return in three weeks. When asked why he would put this food on a table if he knew it was bad, he suggested free coffees and dessert. A truly shocking experience . I have written 300 plus reviews this is by far the worst.More
We (4 adults) had dinner on 21 Dec - we all had steaks with different (cream) sauces and side dishes. In the night that followed, 3 of us all get suddenly very ill and spent more time in the bathroom than in bed. Terrible !...We expect that the cream sauces caused the problems, but it could have been anything really. The next day, I contacted the hotel to inform that there was something seriously wrong with the hygienic standards in their kitchen and to ask them to take responsibility and propose a compensation for the suffering we experienced. The reply I got was very disappointing : "we received your allegations", "send us the doctors report" etc etc. Symptoms of food poisoning are easy to recognise and when 3 out of 4 diners have the same symptoms at the same moment, then the restaurant should have acknowledged the problem and act responsibly. They didn't.... Thinking back of our dinner, an alarm bell should have gone off when I was waiting for my ice cream dessert : when it arrived, it was more like an ice cream 'soup' then ice cream scoops. I asked the waiter what happened and he explained they had problems with the cooling system in the kitchen. I refused the dessert and it was sent back to the kitchen. I reported all this to the restaurant but they deny all responsibility. If this happened to us, it could happen to you as well, so : better to avoid then to regret. Unworthy of a place with a 4/5 star rating.More
