I ate at the restaurant for three nights in a row as the food was so good! set menu for a mere R175 which was a steal as we even could choose garlic mussels as a starter and a sirloin steak. Owner run and managed...is what makes this a special find and great spot to visit. If on your own or with a friend - My favorite was the Garlic Mussels for sure but a second favorite the Chickens Schnitzel with mushroom sauce and vegies ! Its a gem of a find and I recommend you visit soon before the set menu comes to and end - I see they already changed the offering!More

We chose Powell House on the basis of positive reviews and were not disappointed. From the moment we entered Alan made us fell welcome and at home. Cheryl completed the personal touch by sharing her dessert recipe at the end. My Portuguese steak was excellent...and the other three in our party were also pleased with their choices. It was a wonderful evening with good choices of excellent food, exceptional personal service and reasonable prices. Thoroughly recommended.More

Grant and I were fortunate enough to choose Powell for dinner for our overnight stop. The chicken curry was superb. The chilli to die for and Alan and his team went out of their way to ensure that we were looked after. The candles, music...and ambience was lovely. Alan is a charming host and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.More

I was quite keen to try this restaurant after reading positive reviews. Unfortunately, the disappointment when visiting was huge. We were served by an elderly gentleman who was very pleasant but struggled to keep up on his own, serving the entire restaurant it seemed. I...ordered vegetable curry and my companion ordered fried fish. My dish of vegetable curry wasn't awful but it was not particularly interesting either. Whats more it was a miniscule portion considering the price which was more or less the same as the price of a medium steak. Considering the price of vegetables it was shameful. It was supplied in a small dish, which would have been adequate had it not been only 1 cm (less than half an inch) deep. It was accompanied by a sambal of a few tiny pieces of tomato in a cheap spirit vinegar and also a few slices of tomato. Totally unacceptable. My companion's fried fish was tough and dry, probably frozen, but badly so. All in all a bad experience.More

If you are looking for great food served in a relaxed but upmarket setting - then this place is ideal. There is an interesting piece of history associated with the venue that is worth a quick read at the front of the menu. The service...was first class and friendly. There was not a single bone in the Hake fillet and the durban curry was perfect! You wont be disappointed by this place!More

An excellent meal at Powell House for my birthday. We can recommend the fresh Trout and the Irish coffees. Friendly service from the owners.

We were celebrating our crown wedding anniversary and were thankful to find a decent restaurant open on a Wednesday night. You guys were amazing. The food was so delicious and you even gave us a free, awesome dessert for our celebration. In these difficult times...where restaurants are just trying to survive this was a huge gesture. Thank you so much. We wish you strength in these difficult times.More

We had a lovely dinner here - Alan was a great host. My husband had a steak which was done to perfection, I had a goulash which was very tasty. The meal was washed down with a good bottle of wine and a superb Eton...Mess. Ambience is cosy and pleasant, it was a cold evening so the fire was lit. Good background music.More

Relaxed dining. Very friendly host. Offering good food and wine. Didn’t regret our choice over the many restaurants in Swellendam. Would be a place we would return given the opportunity. Thanks to the staff for making our evening relaxed and enjoyable.
