La Belle Alliance, a family run restaurant since 1998, is situated on the main road between the Drostdy Museum and the Dutch Reformed Church, on the banks of the Koornlands river.The historical building was formerly a masonic lodge with some symbols still visible on the premises today. The garden terrace offers tranquility and shade under a canopy of White Stinkwood trees and lots of sunshine and blankets on cooler winter days."Specials" include both traditional and international dishes, all freshly home made.La Belle Alliance is renowned for its efficient and friendly service. I love the location of the restaurant on the river, with the prolific bird life, but unfortunately on this visit, we had to sit inside due to it raining.
The toasted Tuna Mayonnaise Sandwich on rye bread was lovely, as was the cole slaw served with it. But when we finished eating, we were ignored for well over half an hour, with no offer of more drinks or desserts.

We had lunch here under the trees. The food was really good, the service was about the best we had on our trip to SA, and the setting was lovely. All in all an excel;lent meal and experience.
My son is coeliac and there were gluten free options, and the staff were very helpful in that regard.

The perfect spot for a lazy lunch, table under the shady trees watching the sunbirds fly to their feeders. We enjoyed a delicious light lunch and a bottle of wine. Great friendly service.

For the 5 th time here. Always nice to come back. Lovely food and so nice to sit in the shade by the river. My favourite place in Swellendam.

ALWAYS tops for friendly and efficient service, the service is quiet and unobtrusive, the huge variety of food always freshly prepared and well presented. This was a birthday celebration under a canopy of stunning old trees that gave shelter on a 36C day and La Belle Alliance did not fail me. THANK YOU!!

We ate breakfast here surrounded by lovely sunbirds.
Staff friendly and efficient.

What a place to stop at on the way from Mossel Bay to Camp Town……we had breakfast and was absolutely fantastic and such good value for money. The staff were super friendly and the setting by the river was gorgeous.

The owners are so friendly and welcoming. They saw us watching the birds and even though they had closed for the day invited us into the grounds to watch the birds on the feeders.

Had a quick coffee but friendly staff always. Food is nicely pesented and good value and variety. I often call in there as a local. The view over the river is spectacular.

We stopped for a late lunch, and loved the ambiance of the place. sitting in the shade under the trees, where the birds were all fighting at the bird feeder!
Our food was very good, but prices were unreasonably high for the portions we got

Friends and I were there for lunch, they ordered ciabattas which were approximately R100 each, which is just a small ciabata, which I consider to be very overpriced. One of my friends received her ciabata with one of the main ingredients missing and when she called the waiter to ask about it, they said they were out of stock. The waiter could have mentioned this before one ordered or while the food was being prepared, not afterwards when one notices a key ingredient is missing. Also, I ordered a cheesecake which when arrived, was running across the plate like it had not even begun to set. When the waiter returned and I asked about it, she said they were aware that it wasn’t set but they served it anyway.
