Given the fantastic food on offer here, it's such a shame to give it a 4 because of other factors.... I went a few weeks ago and had a light Hake and Chips, and I was so impressed at how good such a simple battered...piece of fish could be that we headed back. To wax lyrical over the kitchen first - we had the Trio of Lamb, and the Pork Belly. Truly delicious. The trio of lamb was absolutely superb - a french rack, a portion of lamb shank and crumbed sweetbreads (so nice to see them on a menu!) plus exquisite trimming - and really beautifully presented, the Pork Belly is done with 5 spice and Soya for a Chinese feel and is likewise presented beautiully by the kitchen. Actually, at under R200 per plate, it's a bargain to be presented with such delicious and well made food. The letdown was lacklustre service - we had to get up a couple of times to ask for a drink, the bill etc - and weirdly, the glass ware. We were more than a little bemused at the delivery of a pricy bottle of sparkling water with no ice, no lemon and some of those R2 Brannas and coke glasses you get at dodgy pubs where bar fights are scheduled activities! The Wine and beer glasses were similarly heavy badly made glass. I suppose I'm a bit of a snob! Given the location - in the heart of the Stellenbosch beer and wine route - it would also be nice to see a couple of the better local beers and wines on the menu too . but all in all - well worth it for the food and relaxed environment!More
