What a memorable, delightful stay we experienced at the “Small’s Hotel” in Robertson. Their attention to detail have widely surpassed our expectations. Notable thankyou to Walter, Devon, Anushka, Elizabeth, Naomi and uncle Wright, who went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable...as possible. The food is outstanding, Lamb Shank’s soft and succulent and their selections of wines are top notch. A clear blue swimming pool literally on your doorstep and a spacious, cavernous bedroom and bathroom makes this a must visit destination. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, it’s great to find an establishment that’s so customer focused. Loved it, loved it, loved it.More

Nice venue but the food was a big disappointment. Staff very friendly and forthcoming. But for upscale prizes one would expect upscale food. It felt a little bit as if the apprentice cook could have her way since the chef was sick. The beef tartare...I had was ok ish but somehow they forgot the spices. The lamb shank tasted like mutton. There was supposed to be a wine sauce but as with the tartare they just forgot the spices. My wife was supposed to have Udon noodles. They honestly looked more like Tagliatelle.More

We reserved in This hotel and restaurant is an oasis in a somewhat dreary town with a lack of character with unedifying industry dominating outskirts of the town. There is one jacaranda lined street which is awesome in the centre of the town. The town is not...on par with nearby historic Montagu but is a central location to the burgeoning Robertson Valley wine route. The restaurant provided an extraordinary meal as we were there at a time when there was a two hour power cut - that tells a lot about a restaurant how it deals with adversity and not cam up ace Having had numerous visits to Thailand I can honestly say your version of Tom Yum soup must be the best we have experienced as you got the spiciness just right so it did not overwhelm the seafood The beef fillet was tender and cooked to perfection The dessert is the curtain call and it came up trumps here - rose geranium parfait and blueberry ice cream fine dining levelMore

Sadly, we have never stayed at this hotel but take every chance to eat at the wonderful, cool, calm and friendly restaurant. It's been a while now but the food is still above average, the service is warm and helpful and the surroundings are quite...wonderful. I am looking forward to staying in a room where one puts a foot out of the French windows and falls straight into the pool, but until then, we shall take every opportunity to lunch or dine in this small paradise.More

The meal started well with excellent bread and very good starters - goat's cheese and prawns. The main courses, however, were a disaster: the belly pork was lacking seasoning and was overcooked, making it hard and unpleasant. The accompanying salsa verde mentioned on the menu...was missing, the request for spinach instead of Brussels sprouts was ignored and broccoli (which I don't like) was substituted, and mint sauce was sprinkled over all of the crackling. Overall, it was almost inedible and showed that the chef had not tasted anything before plating. My wife's sea bass fish was swimming in oil, but did taste ok. We did complain and the pork dish was not charged. The lack of a properly qualified chef was very apparent! The restaurant ambiance and the service are very pleasant but need better food to get more stars.More

This was my 3rd visit at The small restaurant. Apparently the chef changed in between. I enjoyed my dinner, but was not blown away. The ravilli were good, but not very refined, the fish was excellent, and the dessert - the lemon tart, not very...delicate. I was expecting something more "fine dining" espcially considering the price. The staff and the place are awesome...More
