Came in at 8:15pm, completely empty with only 2 tables finishing up (they were having desserts). Was told that they couldn’t serve me because the empty tables were reserved. I asked what time were the reservations for, because it’s just me and I won’t be...more than 30minutes. He didn’t know. Clearly didn’t want to seat me, maybe because I wouldn’t be much income? Went to Gallery cafe that was much warmer and gracious with delicious offerings.More

It’s a fairly simple, unfussy little restaurant, blessed with a talented proprietor-chef. Three course, set price menu, unusually good value these days when many Cape restaurants are getting expensive. Very nice food and a short but adequate wine list. We recommend it and would certainly...go again.More

We had starters, main and dessert. The chef, Hendry Olivier, came to greet us and explain his menu. We had livers in a cream sauce and gnocchi for starters. Both were delicious with the gnocchi being absolutely pillowy soft! For main we had rack and...shoulder of lamb and kudu steak. The lamb was tender and potato puree sensational. The Kudu (venison)was as soft as you like with a velvety sauce. The desserts were amazing, we had baked custard with marshmallow ice cream and figs with coffee ice cream and salted caramel sauce. WOW the marshmallow ice cream was DREAMY and the figs' combo of coffee and salted caramel just zinged! Thank you Hendry we will remember this special evening for a long time. You will be the reason I come back to Prins Albert again.More

Although we didn't have a reservation, or previous visit several years ago prompted us to take a chance on getting a table. The restaurant was full, the ambience so warm and guests all enthusiastic about their food. Our meal was deliciously memorable. We all had...different mains and there were satisfied sighs all around the table. A great evening. Thanks to Hendry and staffMore

This was a repeat visit after our excellent dinner two years ago, we didn't think it was as good this time but what struck us was the similarity of the menu to that of two years ago I think Hendry needs to introduce some new...dishes as many of his customers are repeat customers Must say that the Lemon Panna cotta was absolutely deliciousMore

This is what we did and immediately liked what we found! The owner/chef was trained in La Motte in Franschhoek so his dishes were beautifully presented as were the tables. The clientele, proved a capricious lot so decided to move outside half way through the...meal. It was just as well that Hendry was a marathon runner in the past! I am a vegetarian and was pleased to be served a lovely meal despite being in the Karoo which is predominantly a land of carnivores! The wines were also well chosen and not expensive. Booking is essential because the restaurant doesn’t seem to open every evening.More

We really want Hendry to do well at The Olive Branch. When everything is on form then it is excellent but the trouble is it is inconsistent and the organisation is often chaotic. This is the most expensive place to eat in Prince Albert, 20%...more expensive than Simply Saffron, for example, so it has to be 20% better and it isn't. Often the reserved tables aren't ready, tables are taken in and out, do we get bread or not?, once our main arrived before the starter. Please focus on the basics.More

Prince Albert is always a very good attraction for overseas guests. I have taken many a visitor there and they all loved it.This time i had visitors from Germany visiting and I started working out a nice itinerary. I booked a table at Hendry's restaurant,...The Olive Branch, for the Saturday night. I contacted Hendry personally and long in advance a few times to confirm the date and time, because I knew that one cannot always find a good restaurant there on short notice. Can you imagine our disappointment when we arrived there and found everything locked up?!!! I was so humiliated and did not have words to apologize for Wherever we tried we just had the same answer :" Sorry, we are fully booked!" With our last try, the owner saw the tears in my eyes and said he was going to make a plan....and he did. I will be forever grateful to him for the lovely food we had in the end. To Hendry I just want to say, if you want good reviews and good business, you must play your part whatever comes your way.More
