My mom and I love our scones but it can be hard to find amazing ones and we found the place! They were divine! Very good value tor money. The view on the stoep was just beautiful and we could sit and chill and watch...passers by. I just loved it! The staff were really friendly too.More

Day 1, I was allowed to sit in the outside area of the Swartberg Hotel with my dog. Noone complained. The waitress even brought a bowl of water for my dog. I ordered a latte, which was ok but not hot enough. Day 2, I...sat in the very same area and was waiting to order breakfast, when I was asked to leave by the manager. No dogs allowed (but dogs were allowed the day before!?) In times of covid when all hospitality businesses are suffering, you'd think that they'd be desperate for any business. Regardless, I walked immediately across the road to a restaurant which does not even have breakfast on their menu. The owner was more than happy to go out of her way and organise a fantastic full-house breakfast with coffee for me. At a much cheaper price than the Swartberg Hotel. And very pet-friendly. A classic case of one's opportunity lost being another's opportunity gained!! I now understand why there are complaints about the Swartberg Hotel and its eateries. I will never go there again.More

Limited menu, average food fare. Was a little disappointed. Town shuts down after eight. Should portray more local cuisine

This hotel has kerbside appeal but the food was totally unappetizing. The Greek pasta salad was bland overcooked pasta with the most measly additions of feta , cheap olives , cucumber & nary a dressing in sight ; on asking for a dressing the cheapest brown...vinegar was served : totally the worst meal I’ve been had the dishonor of eating this year . My partner ordered pickled fish that he’s convinced was from a tin straight from the supermarket . No manager or supervisor in sight to complain to. Don’t bother to ever dine here , they don’t deserve your patronage .More

This is probably one of the most nicest looking places in the small little town, service was good but the food is a different story. I had a beef burger and chips, the patty tasted like it got a vinegar wash as if to hide...the taste of old meat. Chips was oily. Perhaps have a Gin at their Gin Bar.More

We arrived mid morning 1 July, a chilly, overcast, rainy day. The americano coffees were not HOT. The croissants the worst we have ever eaten. They were not even baked , let alone hot and fresh as one would expect. The service was friendly, but...unnecessarily slow. We are very disappointed and will not return again.More

Prince Albert is a beautiful town, set in a magnificent landscape and with all the potential to be a great weekend getaway. However, I do think the town is slowly starting to slack down and ride on it's reputation of a quaint, trendy Karoo town....During a previous visit we realised that nothing much happens on a Saturday after lunch without prior booking, as some establishments close over the weekend, and the remainder therefor burst at the seams. This we planned for, but decided to try out the Karoo Coffee Shop for breakfast (we were not guests at the hotel). The venue is really beautiful. It is a lovely room and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast...it really was just average. There wasn't much wrong (although the croissant was edging towards the bready side), but I just thought that the coffee shop of the Swartberg Hotel, with the prime position in town, would deliver better - or maybe they've become complacent. I left with the nagging thought that what might have been great 10 years ago, is not anymore. South Africa has caught up on café culture and I'm sure all those trendies from CA and surrounds really could expect more from their trendy weekend destination - us from nearer-by towns included. Get better coffee - or get the barista better training. There is a roaster in town, there's a fantastic roaster in Oudtshoorn, even more in the Garden Route. Have a sprig of something green on the plate, even some dried parsley! It can be great, it isn't now.More

We chose to do a it of "stoepsit" during our visit to the town and spent a pleasant morning break enjoying a cappuccino and watching the world go by. A tourist bus with about 20 passengers arrived for a brunch and the staff handled this...influx with aplomb and efficiency. In no way were the other customers neglected. I had an opportunity to peek into the Victoria Room restaurant, the other restaurant in the hotel and was impressed with the elegant venue with its olde worlde charm!More

Service was slow and uninformed, but the ladies tried their best. The breakfast made up for it all. Omlettes were huge, and enough for 2 people! Poached eggs were soft, and my carrot cake was fresh

We went there for Mother's Day and what a lovely surprise. They offered a set meal and an a la carte menu. The mothers received a Mother's Day card, spa discount voucher and some sweets. We ordered from both menus and the food was well...prepared, very tasteful and beautifully presented. The waitrons were very friendly and helpful but please check your bill afterwards for ours had two mistakes on it. They however sorted it out without any issues.More
